Shaq had 21 in the second half I believe (or something like that, I saw a highlight that said there was about 3 minutes left and he had 5, so it's a guess) They must've fed it to him the whole time. Kobe still shoulda had 60.

bleh..too bad Kobe only shot 1/10 in the 2nd half. :?

Whoever the hell it is that decides what games should be shown here in Canada should be shot. I can't believe they showed the blazers/mavs game instead of MJ vs Kobe...sheesh..

Damn...I dont know what records are left to break. 42 1st half points is Franchise record (the last record was held by Elgin Baylor with 37 I believe) and tied the record of most threes in a half....THATS JUST AMAZING!

Well they showed it here locally. It was an alright game. Kobe was hogging the ball a little too much in the 1st half though. The second he got his hands on the ball, he'd shoot it. Stackhouse and Jordan were hot during the beginning but they lost their momentum.

The guy hit 9 shots in a row at one point. If I'm playing with somebody who's that hot I want him to shoot the ball every time he touches it until he goes cold again. You can't blame someone for sticking with his hot hand...

With you on that one, same with whoever decided to show sportsnet's crappy halftime show with Suneel Joshi instead of EJ, The Jet, and Charles.

What I hate the most is during the timeouts and stuff there's always "Now let's see what's happening around the NHL." If we wanted to know that we'd watch one of the 50 hockey games on instead of the basketball game.

Kobe's performance was really phenominal. What was really ironic was that he did that in front of MJ himself. That game was really a "passing of the torch" from MJ to Kobe.

Yeah 42 points in at the half is impressive, and 55 is good too, but I like T-Mac's 46 point triple double more.

And I don't thing Kobe could've gotten 80. It's nearly impossible now to top off four 20 point quarters.

i think at some point in his career kobe will score more than 100 point !, he will not have a problem with shooting 50 shots in a game, already this year he has had two game with 9 3's.
before he's 30 he will break the record

Wel, how much I hope it for him I believe he will never score 100 points, thats is almost impossible for a NBA guard.

i think he could've scored 80 actually
he had 40pnts with 4:32 reminaing in the 2nd quarter!!
he scored 2pnts in that final 4mins, imagine if had actually get those extra points, he woulda had 50 by half
i think one day he will score over 70.
and the reason y i think he could be as good as, or even better than jordan later in his career is that he has a 3pnt shot, jordan was only good at them in the clutch :)
they can do everything else the same, but kobe has the 3pnt shot, and when u have that plus the ability to take it to the hoop, thats pretty scary, same with tracy mcgrady.

but another statement for mvp by kobe.

When Tony Delk had 50 nobody was saying it was a statement for MVP.

you have hit the nail on the head right there, if jordan could of hit the 3 then he might of scored 100. kobe has both,he can hit the 3 and take it to the hoop. kobe's broke the nba's 3point record, also has broke the record for youngest player to reach 10,000 points.
kobe should be this years m.v.p

Kobe is the best/most skilled player in the NBA right now...but there are some barriers to cross before I'd say he was as good as Jordan.

First, there's the matter of physical talent. Kobe doesn't jump quite as high as Mike used to (About a 38" vert compared to Mike's 42") and Kobe has shorter arms. That means when he's driving to the hoop and jumps...the ball is going to be about 6" lower then it was when Mike would do so. Kobe also has relatively small hands...which means he won't be able to palm the ball as well for pump fakes and his finishes no matter how hard he works. Is Kobe a great, great finisher? Yes...but that ceiling is there...

Also...the three-point shot can be both a blessing and a curse. For evidence...compare Vince Carter before and after he learned an outside jump shot. When he couldn't shoot well...he would attack the rim far more often for higher percentage shots. After he learned the three...he 'fell in love' with it. It's like fool's gold in a way...often the easy way out when on offense as it requires far less physical exertion or personal endangerment than driving the ball. After Vince learned to hit the three-point shot he actually became less effective as a scorer. We'll see if Kobe can keep things in perspective...but as it is he's been shooting loads of threes lately which isn't a good sign.

Finally...there's the matter of mentality...being a dominating scorer alone doesn't make you great. Jordan didn't reach his peak...and couldn't beat the Pistons...until he learned to pass the ball. Kobe hasn't established that mentality yet as he's had Shaq drawing the attention and doing the passing for him. That might stunt his growth in that department.

From hearing them both speak...I also personally think that Michael has a few IQ points over Kobe as well...and I've had this opinion supported by reading reports from Tex Winter that Kobe took a lot longer to understand the triangle than Mike did.

Again...Kobe is the best player in the world right now...and he's becoming as dominating a scorer and shooter as Mike was in his younger years. There's still a few hurdles left to jump before we put him up there with the All-Time greats though.[/quote]
