DW's (and Cy's) Healthy Cuisine Tips

cyanide wrote:Not really letting off steam, but man, Legend's mom makes the best chicken. Seriously. I love chicken, but that was the best chicken I've ever had in my life. They were all like thick pieces of thigh, but the spices she put on it actually went right into the chicken itself making it juicy and delicious. The time she put into cooking it gave it such a nice tender taste with a salivating aroma. Man, just thinking about the chicken makes me want to go to a farm right now, and grab a chicken and chomp on it while it's wailing and trying to claw out my eyes.

Chicken. Broiled, not cooked.

So, that's how Legend's mom cooked it!

Meh... just dump it in water, boil for 20 minutes and you get 55 grams of protein, pure and simple. (One full breast...) . -For the gym rats-

Fri Aug 26, 2005 5:06 am

I never tried that. What about the spices and additional stuff? Just mix it in with the water, or is that done after defrosting, or after the boiling?

Fri Aug 26, 2005 5:16 am

I personally just dump it in water. I boil for 20 mins or so( less using a pressure-steam pot), then I add some salt and pepper when it's served on the plate. Needless to say, it's utterly tasteless and hard to chew down and swallow, but it's almost pure protein. The equivalent of 18 egg whites, 2 scoops of Whey protein, and 1,8 litres of milk( but low fat milk has about 1 gram of fat for every 3.3 grams of protein and 4.8 grams of HCs, so gulping down 7 glasses of milk in one attempt is not advised.) Also, 55 grams of protein can be found in 2 cans of tuna(canned in water, NOT OIL!!!).

That's definitely a money saver for source of protien, high quality protien, too. I eat canned tuna in water too, but tuna's not the kind of fish I particularily enjoy eating. I'll definitely try out your advice with the chicken, though. Thanks (y)

And do not forget: Chicken BREAST, not just chicken.

Warning: It is awful at first when eating, so drink some water to help it down your tube.

If you want something more disgusting but very protein-full, try drinking 10 egg whites... raw... Dilute with water to avoid involuntary vomitting...

Also: Some Yoghurts(low fat) have good prot/HC/Fats ratio... Combine them with rice (brown, preferrable for a good mix of HC and some protein.

But given the fact that there are VERY few foods abundant in protein, a proteinic supplement is a must to achieve that 30/50 or 40/40 Protein/HC ratio... (Y)

Chicken breast, of course, always. :)

I've tried gulping down 2 eggs for fun once, just to prove to my mom that I can do it... but isn't that dangerous, as it can potentially cause samonella poisoning?

Yeah, protien shakes after a workout is the satisfactory treat I get, but I don't use it as a meal replacement since they're expensive (even though the protien to dollar ratio is cheaper than eggs and milk)

The point here is not taste, friend... I could cook you a mean spiced chicken that would knock your socks off... but I opt not to eat these things by conviction...

dweaver.. why don't you broil or even throw the chicken in a convection oven.? this is just as hardcore- you get the same amount of protein and more importantly it's much easier on the taste buds

you could eat healthy/get your fill of protein and still enjoy it

What's a convection oven? Regular cooking in teh oven usually requires some oil and spice, lest the chicken be burned to a crisp.

Use a George Foreman grill. I don't know how to use one therefor I can't eat lunch tomorrow..cuz I'm home alone all day weekdays (its summer still).
