VC's Game

Tue Mar 25, 2003 7:53 am

How do you think Vince Carter s playing as of lately? Is he back to his old self?

I think he should shoot more. In the last few games he has been shooting well above 50%. I've noticed his 3 pointers have gone down from last year. He should drive more to the net.

Tue Mar 25, 2003 1:49 pm

VC's game is alright, no where near the 26 or 27 he averaged two years ago, when you can't hit 20 every game, you're not a superstar. I used to like him, but he wussed out with all those injuries.

...

Tue Mar 25, 2003 2:37 pm

.....wussed out?

He's battling back man, what do u mean wussed, he's tried to come back too many of times, just unlike iverson or kobe the inj. was alittle more severe, and to his KNEE.

this is the inj. that put MJ out for a year, why not call him a wuss. Just unlike MJ VC tried to come back in a month or two, and it screwed him up for a while. All you used to be VC fans out there just make me like the guy even more. I bet like KB8 once VC gets it rolling, evry1 will say they liked him. Hell i remember when i used to argue aginst VC and 4 kobe, now it just doesn't seem to matter, evry1 all of a sudden likes KOBe.
Maybe when VC gets going, i'll have to sprout that discussion back up.
Don't lose faith in him now, and later say u loved him since the begginging.

Don't worry Poolit, I still don't like Kobe, nor Vince, won't like them later and haven't really liked them in the past. Vince was an eye opener for most people in the beginning, but then he stood over Andrew Gaze before the Olympics.

Tue Mar 25, 2003 11:38 pm

Vince Shmince!!

we will see what hes got next year, but he is nowhere near the likes of kobe and t-mac, shouldnt even be mentioned in the same paragraph.

he does have talent, but if he doesnt get it goin soon, well you know the story

Tue Mar 25, 2003 11:38 pm

but then he stood over Andrew Gaze before the Olympics.

That's a great reason not to analyze a player fairly....

That's a great reason not to analyze a player fairly....

I didn't analyze him fairly? I didn't really say much about him as a player. I basically said Vince amazed me in the beginning, then his attitude came through and disappointed me. The Gaze thing was just a funny example of that, the young cocky Vince standing over a guy who's a legend in this arena, and I brought it up because I thought the memory might draw a giggle or two...

I love you Vince... almost as much as Rick Brunson :D

Exactly...so what was the point of your post? All you said was you didn't like him because he stood over Gaze and that a lot of people jocked him at the beginning of his career...

If he has the talent, he could be mentioned in the same paragraph as those two...his talent is equal, if not greater (in some opinions), of Tracy McGrady and Kobe Bryant, so he can be mentioned in the same breath as those two; however, if he doesn't realize that talent and play on the same level, then he's just another Shawn Kemp...

You can't say that a player isn't up to "the likes" of another player if we KNOW he can produce numbers that are equal, if not better, than another player. He's been injured for two years, so give him a little bit of a chance. I gave Kobe a chance, and now he amazes me...give Vince a fair chance.

Vince's game is comming back, he seems to have shaken off the rust. He's scored 21, 22, 30, 27 over the past four games. Anyone notice that he's playing some point now too? He also had a beautiful pass to bradley in the Knicks game. Vince can still be the player he was a couple of seasons ago if he remains healthy but now is not the time to judge him. He's playing for a team that's basically trying to lose right now.

Wed Mar 26, 2003 7:32 am

I believe Vince has the skills of T-Mac and Kobe but he just doesn't use them right now. There team has nothing to win for. If you look at some of his last games his shot attempts were very low even though his field goal percentage was very high (above 50%). His minutes have been slightly reduced also. Just give him till next year when they have a shot at the playoffs again.

Wed Mar 26, 2003 2:17 pm

Exactly...so what was the point of your post?

To say that I don't like Vince Carter, but I thought that was pretty obvious.

Wed Mar 26, 2003 3:06 pm

I don't mind about Vince Carter... His attitude sucks IMHO... He's too arrogant and flamboyant. He's always over-exagerrating (spl) his emotions. He never developed his game since getting in the league. He doesn't play defense. I just hope he stays healthy and manages to play a good ammount of games...

Tales wrote:He never developed his game since getting in the league.

Tales tsk tsk .. have you been watching Vince? Do some research on this matter before stating your opinion about this ;)

What Vince needs is a PG that gives him the ball. I love Alvin Williams, but he's neglecting his PG duties at the moment, it's been on several occasions that Vince had only like 1 shot in the 4th, where Voshon is shooting from all over the place. Alvin doesn't get Vince the ball.

I.e, yours

Vince can be great IF he remians healthy, but my point exactly
he needs to be healthy to be effective and play well
kobe is playing injured, and still dominating, t-mac has his back problems, MJ is 40 and still plays well.
this is what pisses me off about vince, one little scratch and he cant play, yet he can go dance up on stages at a rap concert
Vince needs to toughen up and play the game of basketball that he CAN do so well.

Laddas wrote:one little scratch and he cant play, yet he can go dance up on stages at a rap concert
And we all know how much harder it is to go out and dance at a rap concert nearing the end of your recovery, than it is to play a nba game.....About the scratch thing, that's more or less what I was referring to in the first reply, For the 2002 dunk contest he declined to participate because of the infamous 'jumper's knee' yet threw down some dunks during the all star game that would of won that weak dunk contest.

Thu Mar 27, 2003 10:49 am

Just checking out his current game (vs. cavs 31-22 in the 1st pr 2nd)

The games scoresheet wrote:VINCE CARTER 10 4-6 1-1 0-0 1 2 0 9

Just checking out his current game (vs. cavs 31-22 in the early 2nd) Vince had 9 points in 10 minutes on 4-6 shooting, pretty good

--EDIT--

Whoops posted the part I didn't want to post since I couldn't get 'PTS,' 'MIN' and so on to line up right

Fri Mar 28, 2003 9:23 pm

i dont think vince will ever be able to average 32 6.5 and 5.5 ala tmac..... numbers which are only gonna get better.

he could be a great scorer though, topping at 28 ppg.

dont think he has the talent of either tmac or kobe either....... not to mention he doesnt seem as long (wingspan wise) as either, which is a factor. also he's a bit selfish when he gets it on, a bit too unselfish when he doesnt.

also, i've liked tmac ever since he joined the league. At first he reminded me of scottie..... o well, i guess i'll take what he's become  so i'm no band wagon jumper. Ive never liked vince either, so maybe my opinion's bias, o well

Sat Mar 29, 2003 8:45 am

I wish he could get to the line more often
he only averages right now about 4 free throws a game coumpared to like 14 t-mac and kobe have been averaging in the last month. If he could get to the line that many times he would be averaging about 10 points a game more.

Sun Mar 30, 2003 8:27 pm

Although I'm not going to remove any of the guilt from Vince, Lenny Wilkens was a huge factor in Vince's play for the last 2 years... He's gonna be fired by the end of this year...

If he's healthy, and he has a good coach (someone who actually PUSHES him), Vince could be an elite player in the league again....

Sun Mar 30, 2003 8:46 pm

but he wussed out with all those injuries.

vc is a great player, but come on he has wussed out this year

Sun Mar 30, 2003 9:16 pm

He's come back not 100% and has been just about the only player that's played well since his return.. the rest of the team has wussed out.

Mon Mar 31, 2003 4:08 am

that's very true about lenny wilkens. He doesn't push Vince Carter enough to reach his full potential. If raptors had a good coach they would tell vince to shoot more and drive more. I hope Lenny leaves after this year because he is doing no good for the raptors. It's no wonder he will have the most lossing record in NBA history really soon.

Mon Mar 31, 2003 10:03 am

Vince scored 28 today against the Knicks and looked like his old dunking/shooting off-balance fadeaways, self. He's now averaging over 20 a game (20.3,) it's the first time I've noticed that he is. Anyway, I have his jersey and I want to be able to wear it and not feel stupid, so 'Keep ya head up VC, they will come, but you must lead." To Mr. Wilkens 'There's a point at which being a relaxed coach becomes being a lazy coach. So get off your ass and yell at 'em, they won't die or anything."
