I wanna become a Lawyer working in legal aid helping the less well off. To show Law isnt all prestige...

Or a journalist is really something im looking at.. thats why I want to do a journalism/law double degree.

Mon Aug 01, 2005 9:06 pm

I currently studying IT degree and I want to be a system analyst, system administrator or project team member.

Mon Aug 01, 2005 9:16 pm

Too many graphic designers and IT people in here, like I would expect.
These days far too many people want to do "something with computers", but oly few know that ie. graphic design is a tough world to survive in even when you have the best skills, it's all about contacts.

On another note, I'm going to be a HS senior this year and after that I'm probably going to college, Leisure Studies. No kidding.

Shoo Mercury, no place for 4 year olds in this thread. We're the big boys, better watch out.

We got jobs. 8-) (Well some of us, the rest are just bums.)

Tue Aug 02, 2005 1:09 am

I guess that makes me a bum then. :( No job as of now.. maybe I'll do some part time stuff by the time I start college.

Tue Aug 02, 2005 1:13 am

Right now I coach basketball, and other sports for kids, I umpire baseball games, and I have a job in the city where I do matinence work and people "page" me if they have something wrong and then I go fix it. I'm a handiman.

I plan on working for the pacers after I finish college at Butler. I'm double majoring in Journalism and radio brodcasting.

Actually, graphic designers are in high demand right now, but I'm not sure if it depends on the degree/diploma. It might depend on location I guess, but graphic design is needed in every business sector, which is a big plus. For all I'm aware of, according to my teachers, students with a BDes degree has a higher chance of getting a design job to the point where they're guaranteed to get one immediately after graduation. From where I'm from, and perhaps internationally, the BDes degree is the most prestigious degree to get from the Faculty of Arts. It's a very competitive program to get into, the classes are very small, and there's not many people accepted (I actually got rejected the first time I applied, but made it the second time)... so unlike a BA degree, the BDes degree is actually worth something

I'm not so sure about graduates from technical schools with diplomas or certificates. For sure, contacts definitely help for freelancers, but companies, businesses, and agencies, locally and even internationally, would actually make job offers directly through the university because they'd rather have somebody with a degree. Since I'm fortunate to have the highest GPA in my program, my career is pretty much set (whoo hoo!)

To everyone going to school and college to try and be graphic designers:

STOP!

My cousin is one of the highest paid graphic designers in NSW (so he tells me, by buying giant plasma tv's for fun) and he didn't even finish high school. He made up a fake resume (if you're good at graphic design you can do this :P) got his foot in the door and now he's 2nd in command of the company, whatever they're called.

There's a lesson to be learnt here, I'm not sure what it is but I'll be damned if it doesn't exist. Also; (sorry Habbakuk) LMAO @ the PinoyIDOL sigs.

Tue Aug 02, 2005 4:01 am

Very nice, he's probably very lucky to get the job initially since that was an opportunity that not many people can get and lucky not to get caught with a fake resume, but yeah, anybody with Photoshop skills can get a career in graphic design... all I know and care about is that I'll be buying plasma tv's for fun someday :P

Tue Aug 02, 2005 4:11 am

He was going to make me a fake resume but I kinda realised no matter how good it was, someday they'd realise that I'm not actually very good at graphic design.

Tue Aug 02, 2005 4:15 am

You're pretty good, I've seen your works. You and a bunch of other members are actually much better than those god-awful works that anyone can see on pizza flyers, restaurant menus, and lawyer commercials  Besides, a fake resume isn't exactly a portfolio, so it wouldn't hurt to try (y)

I'm currently a custom home designer for a large home builder. I make customized floor plans for high end homes across the city.

On weekends I slut out Cy's mom for a few extra dollars. (She usually doesn't make much but it gets me a slurpee here and there) 8-)

Tue Aug 02, 2005 4:43 am

I can't begin to imagine what would happen if Cyanide's mom read one of these jokes. I mean, imagine what a cold vibe you'd get if she read it.

I'd be scared shitless if she served me any food after reading the jokes.

I am going into my final year of high school and I am planning on becoming a Physiotherapist.

At first I had my "What every kid dreams of" dreams like playing professional soccer in Europe or playing in the NBA or the NFL.

But I realised none of those are going to happen although I still have some hope for playing professional soccer, just not in Europe.

ok ok.. after jacky shattered my dreams of becoming a cutie pie I did some soul searching and I've decided I want to be a game designer.. It seems that many of the skills I've been learning in computer science are transferable from the cutie pie industry to the games business.. that's a time saver right there
