Clippers Too Short, Come Short Against Atlanta
Oct 30, Atlanta - Allen Iverson's 12, 4 and 4 just wasn't enough for the LA Clippers to steal a win from the Atlanta Hawks who showed that height did matter in the closing minute of the game.
Atlanta held on to their lead as they outrebounded the Clippers 4-1 in the final two minutes, 3 rebounds coming on the crucial offensive end as the home team ran the clock down. Allen Iverson who had fouled out with LA down by only 3, threw a chair to the side as he retreated to the change rooms and left Earl Boykins to play small forward.
"This is a great team, we can run and handle the rock very well, our size is the only question but if we can run and push the other team, we have a chance at winning a lot of ball games," GM Will Sit stated.
Allen Iverson agreed, "We mustn't get into situations where we need to win by securing rebounds. We should be right."
The Clippers played at their best in the third quarter and start of the fourth as they put their foot on the pedal and started to gain momentum before Telfair missed a pair of fast break lay ups to keep his own team at bay.
Dirk Nowitzki took advantage of his size advantage with an easy 7 and 7. Antonio Daniels scored 8 points as Ben Gordon added 6 and 4 rebounds. Damon Stoudamire struggled at SG as he scored 5 on 2-7 shooting.
