Week 10: To Blow Out Or To Be Blown Out; That's The Question
A pretty weird week this was for the Knicks. It started off pretty much normal when they beat Sacramento, which is playing surprising bad this season. Then, in a matchup of East powerhouses, the Miami Heat showed they can't be overlooked as serious title contenders.
This early in the season, the Heat were already labeled 'dissapointing' because they didn't even had the best record in the league, while many thought the 72-10 Bulls record could finally be broken.
How would the Knicks react to the big loss in Miami? Probably better than anyone expected as they blew out a team themselves. Victim was Cleveland, not the worst team this season, but they got seriously outplayed by New York at the Gund Arena.
That was this week, next week should be without such as big 'surprise' as the Heat game, as the Knicks only have to play 3 games against mediocre teams (best of them is Portland, 18-13).

Left: Brian Skinner with the pretty acrobatic move, no foul was called, but the shot still went in. Skinner played more minutes this game as Brad Miller fouled out with 7 minutes left in the 3rd (!), which gave a good idea of how many fouls the Kings made this game.
Right: Ariza with the jam basically on the whole Kings team (comparable to Manu Ginobili's dunk on the Lakers - real life).

[Photo] Dale Davis, acquired in the Marbury trade, actually got some playing time this game (29 minutes) because Stromile Swift had a very hard time against the much taller and heavier Shaq.
[Photo] The Miami Heat shot the lights out in this one. Their outside shooters were that much on fire that it gave enough light so it didn't matter.

Right: Robert Traylor, most of the time laughed at and talked about as a bust, played solid in this game and delivered one of the game's best plays, this Spalding Sandwich on Malik Rose's attempt.

Rookie Spotlight: Trevor Ariza aka Air Ariza

You can't say he's still flying under the radar, but what were the other 29 NBA teams thinking when they didn't pick up Ariza in the 2004 draft?
After beginning this season as bench player, he quickly battled his way into the starting lineup and past week was clearly his best of his already successfull rookie season. He had averages of 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists, pretty good for a second round pick eh?

Knicks Week Recap [sponsored by Chevron] met with Ariza and asked him about various things.

KWR: Trevor, congratulions on past week's achievements, did you think you would reach such heights in your rookie season?
Ariza: Actually not, I knew I had good enough skills to be in the NBA, but when I was picked so late in the draft, I started to doubt if I could handle the level of play.

KWR: Yeah, what were you thinking when you finally got drafted?
Ariza: I was so happy, I think it felt the same was as if I were drafted 3rd or something like that. It's not about how you get into the NBA, but more about how you stay in it and prove you can play.

KWR: Well you clearly showed us this week, also in the Miami game. Was it special for you to play there?
Ariza: OF course, I'm from Florida myself and I had family and friends in the stands, about 30 people. I was happy the important persons in my life were all there and I did well too! Of course the 2 games in the Staples Center will be special as well, people I know from UCLA will be coming to see me, including Dijon Thompson, he's a really good friend of mine.

KWR: How does having Asthma affect your game?
Ariza: Not many people know this, but yeah I have Asthma. I start slow with shooting and running on gamedays, try to not get too tired before gametime. During the games, I just use the time I'm on the bench really well to get more relaxed again and I drink a lot of water and energy drinks. The team doc already warned me for places like Utah and Denver, I have more problems there, but it went ok.

KWR: What are your goals for this season?
Ariza: First of all, continue playing like this, especially as a team. We're one of the best in the L right now, not many people expected this. Personally, I'm hoping to sneak into the Rookie Game, I really want to experience the All-Star Weekend. [Fred Jones whispers: dunk contest.]
I might give it a try, but I'm not sure if people think I'm good enough at dunking. [Fred Jones: Sure he does, sometimes we have showoffs after practice, it's really much fun.]

KWR: OK, well that was it for now, thank you for your time and good luck, maybe we'll meet again later.
Ariza: It was my pleasure, I enjoy the media attention.

New York - In the previous Knicks update the All-Star Voting was introduced. While the official standings (so far) won't be shown until next week, it is rumoured that Shaquille O'Neal and Amare's Stoudemire, both centers, are leading all vote-getters so far.
Other positions remain pretty close, so please keep voting for Mo Taylor and Jaycee as they will need the votes to both make their first All-Star Game selection.
Personally they want to thank every Knicks- and NBA-fan that has voted for them already.

Finally good to see an update again. I never really replied too much to this dynasty, but I definitely missed it. Looks like Ariza (my favourite Knick and the only Knick I like), seems to be doing pretty well too. Hopefully he can blossom into a star.

Week 11+12: BIG Update, Just Check It
Well what more can I say about this report? Two weeks covered, All-Star Weekend coming up, the season's getting serious. We kept winning though, we almost have the best record in the whole league right now.
To see what exactly happened, just read on.
Also in this update, the first results of the All-Star voting. Mo-T's current number of votes will probably land him a spot on the bench, but of course you guys can assure his first ever All-Star Game selection and maybe even make him a starter by voting for him. Crawford got some votes too, but he's already getting too far behind, maybe more luck next time.

Left: Shareef Abdur-Rahim is a pretty sneaky guy, you don't notice him a whole lot during the game, but at the end his stats amaze you. He kept grabbing offensive rebounds and tipping them in, too.
Right: Trevor Ariza once again with the acrobatic play, earning him a bonus free-throw in the process.

[Photo] Damon Stoudamire grabbed a large number of rebounds against the Hornets. At 5"10 Stoudamire told after the game that it wasn't too rare: "small guards like me can use their quickness to get to the ball earlier, which makes it much easier."
[Photo] Sparingly used rookie center Jackson Vroman pretty much exploded when he got some playing time. The Hornets big men were in foul trouble so the bench got a little more time.

Left: Jamal Crawford faced his former team for the first time since being traded, but couldn't silence the Chi-town critics as he went awfully cold in this game.
Right: The United Center crowd produced a lot of noise after their Bulls had beaten the Knicks. Their record doesn't back it up (yet), but the Bulls are on their way back to the top again.

Left: Eric Piatkowski scored at will in this home-and-home series with the Knicks. After scoring 19 at home, he shot his way to 32 points in the MSG, including 7 threes. He also added 5 rebounds and 5 assists to prove that he's an allround player and not a one-dimensioned scorer.
Right: Maurice Taylor and Stromile Swift drew a lot of fouls early on, putting the Chicago big men in foul trouble and Eddy Curry even fouled out a couple minutes after the break. The backups were much weaker and Taylor benefitted from that on this play.

[Photo] Chris Bosh, seen as Toronto's franchise player since the Carter trade, has good developed offensive game for such a young player. Defensively, Maurice Taylor made maximum profit out of his weaknesses though, proving that Bosh still has a lot to learn.
[Photo] Jamal Crawford with the jam finishing a fastbreak in first quarter action. This showed great promise for the game, but he couldn't quite keep up and is really struggling with consistency again.

Left: Tim Thomas has been a efficient bench player as of late. He's working hard on defense and gets good looks on the other end of the floor.

Great update as always. That SLAM mag is the best one I've ever seen in an NBA Live dynasty and it even looks better than the real mags I'm surprised that Mo Taylor wouldn't be leading for East forwards, but its close. Chris Webber is ahead of him though You almost half way through the season with a couple of more games, great season so far
