Teddy to become wizard of Oz?

West Ham striker Teddy Sheringham could be on his way to Australia to play in the Hyundai A-League.
Queensland Roar chief executive Lawrence Oudendyk and coach Miron Bleiberg have admitted that they have been in contact with the ex-England marksman.

Sheringham's former Manchester United strike partner Dwight Yorke recently signed for another of the new league's clubs - Sydney FC.

And it has emerged that the 39-year-old and the Queensland outfit have been negotiating for the past three months.

Bleiberg told the club's website: 'He is one of the best known forwards in the English game and would give us an old head in what is a very young squad.

'We are looking for a target man and English players are best known for their ability to play in this role.'

However, Bleiberg did admit that the cost of taking a player of Sheringham's stature to Australia could pose problems.

He added: 'The fact is that players in England can still command large salaries even in the lower divisions over there.

'We can get a South American player for a fraction of the cost and that has to be a major consideration for us.

'We are looking for a special player but we do not want to break our pay structure in the process as we have a salary cap that we have to stick to.'

That'd be good for the league, he's a bit old but still he'd bring in some crowds.
