Hmm, Cammo made a post explaining this thing, but I didn't get it. So I'll make mine now for slow people like me...
The 3 people have to make a $30 payment. 30/3=10. But there's a discount of $5. That leaves us with $25. 25/3=8,3 The assisstant took $2 of the remaining $5, so the people got $1 each. That would be 8,3+1=9,3. Now, the "interesting" part: 9,3*3=27,9. That is $28. Plus the $2 the assistant took, is $30

why all the confusing equation? the money was just there all along
30 - 25 - 3 - 2 = 0
total pay(b4 anything else) minus actual pay minus discount minus pocketed money
30=30
