i found out what i wanted to do in 12th grade when i took physics. Just be open minded and at least narrow it down to 5 things you want to do. The ideal college will have all 5 things you might wanna do.

Onyx already said that

wisdom_kid: Why did your grades slip this semester? This is a crucial year if you want to suceed in life. It's gonna be tough to find a good college with those marks now.

Edit: Even though you're not in grade 12 yet, I'm just trying to push you ;)

I would say go into the career of computers. I'm in the 10th grade as well and I'm either looking to major in business, computer technology or management. But if you planning on getting a good career, you just going to have to bring the grades up. I think Canada has a different grading scale than the US because we just go by the GPA and my GPA is a 4.0 for the semester so far and I take all honors classes so an A is like a 5, B is a 4, C is a 3, D is a 2, and so on and I have six classes, so you add the numbers up so on my last report card last week, I had 3 A's, 2 B's. 1 C and you add those numbers together and divid by 6 and you should come out with 4.1 as the GPA. I hope you can find your career soon wisdom_kid, but don't be in SUCH rush because you do have the 11th grade to REALLY think about it. But it is good to think about those type of things now though, the only thing is that it's very easy to change your mind.

Well, for my career I selected to be Pope. It's a hard job but if anyone can do it, it's Mr. Riot.

I suggest being a truck driver or a secruity guard at a zoo.

PROFESSIONAL KILLER------->means he kills people for a price.......he even handed me out his card and a cel number with an odd woman voice who will patch you straight to the hired gun.....you dont need to see him......he'll just waste away everyone with a decent price tag.......

now that's a profession that is neither cool or uncool........i'm speechless

yeah......the irony is that he confess it only to a bunch of guys.......mostly my gang group back then.......and everyone thought in our beach reunion that he was some sort of a vacuum salesman having a tie in his short sleeve shirt.......he was occasionally bullied then....now he's a hitman......damn.....

it may sound cliche...

ask yourself these questions:

you win the lottery and are set for life financially. what job would take up just to keep you busy? or what job would you do for free?

and be serious about it. don't say sit on your ass or type on msg boards all day, or professional athlete

you need to have a passion in whatever field you pursue in order to succeed

average person changes careers 4 times in their lives (although it could be more these days)....

just get good grades, find an area that you are interested in, maybe some generic like computers/IT and as you go through it you might want to specialise....you might swap degrees as 50% of people change degrees....I changed my major in my undergrad degree only to go back to my original major in my Masters due to employment

oh yeah, if you can, when you're studying, work at same time as education is overrated, experience counts....unless of course you are in a highly technical field, but in most cases, experience counts....as long as you're flexible and a good learner, you'll be fine....

that being said, I think it's time for me to make a career change

Probably design websites, or open up my own business (a club maybe)... I'd actually consider trying out for a professional basketball team (after lots of training and practice, of course)

Funny thing is that my marks are going down because i am doing bad in Computer Studies. And i want a carrer in computers. Its not that i suck i just barely go to class, cause everything is soo easy, we are making games in MicroWorlds Pro and stuff. Anyway i am getting 69% in that class with attending only 26 out of 43 classes.

I dunno....I just hear it all the time on the news and from other sources....maybe it's only true in Australia....I'm sure all you other Aussies here have heard that or a similar statistic thrown around in the media....I reckon that the statistic is probably affected by people who are less educated who tend to change careers more....

either way, my main point is even if you don't get your course right from the start, there is still plenty of time to change your career patch....often in jobs, there are chances to move into different areas and a small amount of additional training can get you there at times....

although I'm not really talking in terms of medicine/doctors and so on which you have to really dedicated from the beginning....

just some thoughts though....and turn up to class wisdom_kid....if you are having trouble now, then you will have major problems at college....I know I went from 99% attendance in high school to 75% attendance in 1st year college to 50% or below in attendance in my final year....

when i was younger i wanted to go to comic industries...you know making comics......i too love computers but never took much time in studying programming...i have my own poeple making a few of my thesis...haha.......but that all change when i started handling a couple of family businesses and my girl's business in interior design...i am now studying in graduate school in business admin......the things i am learning there is very useful in the business world........i am currently working in a gas company as a database administrator(weekdays) and i have 4 businesses(weekends route) at hand namely an interior design office/bottled water/computer repair shop and sales/cellphone shop.......but i have all of these because of my family and my girls family.........actually if i depended on my monthly salary alone at my work......it will just be eough to pay off all the bills.....then i wont have time to expense at other good stuff.....like pimping up my ride or going to beaches........this is to tell you how bad the economy in our country right now....... (N)

in choosing your career goals......just choose the career that you ought you love......cause what is work when you hate it.....you will never be motivated......and have all the right connections.......experience may count but connections will take you to the top (Y)

My mom was the one that always told me to be a doctor when I grow up. She would even periodically ask me "What are you going to be when you grow up?" "A doctor." But I know the LAST thing I'm going to do is cut open people and leave my scalpel inside, help parents give birth regularly, and use saws to cut open peoples ribs and see how they died. I'm in 10th grade too, 2nd semester, I chose AP U.S. History, Algebra 2, American Literature and some other crap. My grades are kind of bad now too, I had to stay after school and make up chemistry homework to get my gpa over 2.0 to be eligible. Hopefully I can raise it and maybe get a 3.0 at least by the end of the year.
