2005 OFF-SEASON

Image

(Sorry I couldnt cover the whole draft I had to get it over with before my PS2 froze and messed up my off-season)

With the 20th pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, the Portland Trail Blazers select:

Haywood Royal: PG, Arizona State

Information:

Name: Haywood Royal
School: Arizona St.
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 186 lbs
Position: Point Guard
Birth Place: Twin Falls, Indiana

Haywood played Derek Anderson 1 on 1 during Rookie Scouting. Anderson won by a score of 11-6. Royal is not a strong 3 point shooter but is a good mid-range shooter. And he needs to work on his rebounding.

With the 50th pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, the Portland Trail Blazers select:

Hasani Njinkeu: Center, Africa

Information:

Name: Hasani Njinkeu
School: N/A
Height: 6'11"
Weight: 292 lbs
Position: Center
Birth Place: Bangui, C. African Rep

Blazers fall to sonics in season opener

Seattle 100, Portland 94 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal
Image
50 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists

Seattle - Ray Allen
Image
30 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist

Jermaine O'Neal showed he still hasnt lost his form from last year. O'Neal tied his career high with 50 points in the season opener against Seattle, and grabbed 15 rebounds too. Derek Anderson struggled from the field all night, as he didnt make one field goal going 0-10 from the field. He made 2 free throws to give him his only points of the night. He also grabbed 11 rebounds and had 2 assists. Damon Stoudamire dished out a game high 11 assists and scored 15 points. Joel Pryzbilla got into foul trouble early and that gave more minutes to rookie Center Hasani Njinkeu of Africa. Njinkeu scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 24 minutes of action. Pryzbilla had only 4 points and 2 rebounds in 17 minutes.

Image
Njinkeu started his first NBA game

Coach Maurice Cheeks said that Njinkeu will remain the starter for the Trail Blazers at the Center position. Ray Allen led Seattle with 30 points and 8 rebounds. Sophmore Robert Swift had a solid game with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Vladimir Radmanovic also had 13 rebounds and scored only 3 points. Ronald Murray was 2nd with 19 points off the bench. He also had 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Rashard Lewis had 14 points and 6 rebounds. The score was close for most of the game. Jermaine O'Neal scored Portlands first 10 points en route to a 50 point performance. The Blazers trailed by a big margin a couple times but always managed to come back. Intentional fouls didnt do much for them at the end as the Suprer Sonics escaped with a victory. Seattle improved their record to 2-0 and Portland is now 0-1.

Portland hosts Allen Iverson and the Philidelphia 76ers this Saturday at the Rose Garden. The Blazers will try to improve to a 1-1 record and not lose their first 2 games like last year. Just like the Trail Blazers, the 76ers have started off the season 0-1. Both teams try not to fall to 0-2 as two of the best players in the league in Jermaine O'Neal and Allen Iverson face off.

O'Neal, Njinkeu lead Blazers to first win

Portland 113, Philadelphia 85 | Top Performers

Portland - Hasani Njinkeu
Image
22 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists

Philadelphia - Allen Iverson
Image
27 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals

Hasani Njinkeu had his best game in only his 2nd NBA game. The rookie center from Africa has been producing well since getting the starting job. He scored 22 points going 10-16 from the field and had a game high 16 rebounds while dishing out 5 assists and blocking 1 shot. If he keeps playing this well, he will be a strong candidate for rookie of the year, an award the Blazers havent had since Sidney Wicks won it in 1972. Jermaine O'Neal led the team in scoring again with 25 points. He grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked 6 shots. The Blazers had 4 starters in double scoring figures. One of them was Darius Miles, who had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Last years Most Improved Player Joel Pryzbilla saw only 13 minutes of action, but went 3 of 3 from the field and finished with 7 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks and only 1 rebound.

Pryzbilla said he hasnt been frustrated with losing his starting job and playing time. "Its just something Im going to have to accept. I know they wanna develop the young guys, and I'm OK with that." he said.

Image

Damon Stoudamire dished out a game high 13 assists, including 7 in the first quarter. He also had 10 points going 4 of 9 from the field. Damon Stoudamire wasnt a victim of being benched to get young players more playing time like Pryzbilla, and said he plans to make the most of it. His 13 assists were a big part in tonights win. One of the disappointing players this season so far is Travis Outlaw. He has been struggling from the field the first 2 games, going 2 of 9 against Philly. He was a big force last season backing up Jermaine O'Neal, but hasnt really improved in the off-season.

Image

Allen Iverson led the 76ers in scoring with 27 points and grabbed 3 rebounds and had 2 steals. Newly aquired PG Howard Eisley had only 6 points and 3 assists, but had a good defensive game with 3 steals. Kenny Thomas led the Sixers in rebounding with 12 boards and also had 8 points. The 76ers dropped to a 1-2 record while Portland improved to 1-1.

In his press conference after the game, Blazers head coach Maurice Cheeks talked to the Blazers going for it all this year. "I really think we can do it this year. We had a strong finish last year and barely lost in the playoffs, but I think this year is our year" Cheeks said. The Blazers have won only 1 title in their 35 year history, in 1977 where Bill Walton was the MVP. They have been to the NBA Finals 3 times and the Conference Finals 6 times. Many think Jermaine O'Neal can be the next Bill Walton and lead this team to another NBA Title. Its just something we will have to wait and see.

Utah tops Portland in close win

Utah 110, Portland 109 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal
Image
33 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists

Utah - Carlos Boozer
Image
16 points, 17 rebounds, 1 block

It all came down to offensive rebounds. In the last seconds of the game, Portland was up 109-108 when Utah missed 3 FG attempts by the rim and kept getting offensive rebounds until they tipped it in with 0.2 seconds left. There was no time for Portland to get a shot off so Utah escaped with the win. Jermaine O'Neal had a game high 33 points and also had 13 rebounds and 3 assists, plus 1 block and a steal. Blazers rookie Center Hasani Njinkeu had another solid game with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5 asissts and 1 block. Njinkeu does have a weakness in 1 area, which is turnovers, as he had 7 against Utah and is averaging 5 turnovers a game this season. Travis Outlaw answered his critics tonight, going 8 of 10 from the field with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in just 8 minutes of action. Outlaw also had 2 blocks and if he continues to play like this, he could see more playing time behind Jermaine O'Neal. Damon Stoudamire had his 3rd straight double-digit assist game, dishing out 10 assists to go along with only 7 points and 4 rebounds.

Image

Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirlenko both had 16 points a piece. Boozer had a game high 17 rebounds and 1 steal and 1 block. AK-47 didnt do well in any other category, as he had only 1 rebound and 1 steal to go along with his 16 points. Matt Harpring led Utah with 21 points and had 3 rebounds going 10 of 13 from the field. Utah rookie Guard Corey Murdock had a solid game with 10 points and 4 assists off the bench. Murdock was actually scouted by the Blazers last season. He ended up being selected 4th overall by Utah in the draft. Portland ended up taking PG Haywood Royal.

Image

Other notable performers:

Darius Miles: 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists
Derek Anderson: 4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
Joel Pryzbilla: 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists

Carlos Arroyo: 16 points, 4 assists, 2 steals
Gordan Giricek: 14 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists
Mehmet Okur: 7 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block

The Blazers fell to 1-2 well Utah stayed perfect to move to 3-0 on the season. Portland returns home to the Rose Garden to face the 4-0 Detroit Pistons, which is Portlands last game of the month until December 8th when they travel to New Orleans to face the Hornets.

Other News:

The Trail Blazers have signed Free Agent SG Corey Alexander in order to provide depth at the SG position. Ruben Patterson had to move to SG from SF in order to backup Derek Anderson after Eric Piatkowski was released in the off-season. Alexander will backup Anderson and Patterson will be moved back to SF.

There have been some rumors of Ruben Patterson being shopped around. He could very well be traded before the deadline. As he only has 1 year left on his contract and is taking up $6.35 million of cap space. Atlanta is said to be interested in Patterson. More information will be avilable on this soon.

AFter i post the detroit game, Im not gonna post recaps of my next 3 games, ill just post results to make the dynasty go a little quicker for a little bit.

Portand stages late comeback, tops Pistons

Portland 113, Detroit 108 | Top Performers

Portland - Hasani Njinkeu
Image
32 points, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks

Detroit - Rasheed Wallace
Image
28 points, 17 rebounds, 1 assist

The Blazers were down as much as 15 a couple times during the game and it seemed everytime they caught, the Pistons went back on another run. Blazers rookie Hasani Njinkeu played a game high 37 minutes and finished with a career high 32 points, plus 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks. Njinkeu had only 2 turnovers this game, which is a good thing since he was averaging 5 a game on the season. Backup Center Joel Pryzbilla was a DNP - Coaches Decision since Njinkeu was in most of the game. Jermaine O'Neal, for once, did not lead the Blazers in scoring. O'Neal had 30 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Image

Damon Stoudamire dished out only 5 assists this game and also had 17 points and 5 rebounds. Suprisingly, Darius Miles led the team in assists as he dished out 9 while scoring 10 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Travis Outlaw had only 9 minutes off the bench but had 9 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block. Ruben Patterson played his first game back at the SF position and had only 2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in 15 minutes of action. Patterson is still the subject of a rumored trade with Atlanta, but nothing is expected to happen yet.

Image

Rasheed Wallace led the Pistons with 28 points and 17 rebounds. Tayshaun Prince was 2nd with 15 points, plus 5 rebounds and 2 asissts. Pistons rookie PG Seth Smart had a decent game in 13 minutes coming off the bench. Backing up Chauncy Billups, Smart went 4 of 8 from the field, including 1 3 pointers, with 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. It was just the 2nd game Smart played in this year and is averging 4.5 PPG in 2 starts, where he didnt score any in the first game and scored 9 tonight. Smart was drafted 24th overall by the Pistons in the 2005 draft out of UCLA. The Blazers ruined the Pistons undefeated streak this season so far, and dropped the Pistons to 4-1 while Portland improved to 2-2.

Image

Other notable peformances:

Derek Anderson: 7 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists
Courtney Alexander: 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist

Chauncy Billups:13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists
Ben Wallace: 14 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals
Antonio McDyess: 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal

I have decided to retire this dynasty. I wanted a fresh start with a new team and the 2nd year gets pretty boring anyway. so if needed, mod or admin can lock this thread if they want.
