IE problems...

Sun Mar 27, 2005 3:40 am

I didn't find a thread about ANY technical problem, so I decided to post it here...

On the address bar I type "www.nba.com" and it goes to a strange site called "http://www.web-search.la/" it has a dog and says something about my IP in russian :?

When I type "www.imdb.com" it goes to a directory page with a lot of sections like Health, Sports, those kind of things...

I'm REALLY desperate can someone give me a solution? :(

Get Ad-Aware and if that doesn't help run Spy Bot or something of that sort. It should clean it up. (Y)

you also tryed other browsers ?

Sun Mar 27, 2005 7:03 am

Are you experienced with those programs you mentioned Jona? Because I could give you specific instructions over MSN or something if you want, I know adware/spyware is a pain so I'll try my best to help if you'd like. Also, check your Add/Remove Programs list (Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs) and make sure you recognize everything that is there. If you see things that you don't know (some are obvious giveaways like "Save!" or a long random string of letters+numbers), get rid of them. That sort of thing can happen if you use p2p file sharing programs or if you bought a brand-name computer (like Hewlett-Packard). Most brand-name computer manufacturers now make money off of installing spyware/adware on your computer before you buy it, like those AOL free-trial ads you'll sometimes see.

Sun Mar 27, 2005 10:01 am

I'm not EXPERIENCED with em, but I did what I thought was right, like remove spyware and the like...

It would be great if you could give me instructions over MSN, what is your address?? (Y)

just get Firefox or Opera....IE Sucks Balls...u wont have to worry abt probs like this in the long run either.

Sun Mar 27, 2005 1:53 pm

Seriously, once IE goes bad it takes a harddrive format to get it back to normal atleast thats what I expierenced. My suggestion is to go for Mozilla Firefox, so much better.

Plus, you can get cool skins, and plugins.

Sun Mar 27, 2005 2:19 pm

What kinda skins/plugins? I've just re-installed Firefox after about 2 months of it not working at all, it's loading like 5 times quicker than IE was

Sun Mar 27, 2005 3:51 pm

[url=https://addons.update.mozilla.org/themes/?os=Windows&application=firefox]Here[/url\ are all the themes from the Mozilla site.

I use the Whitehart theme right now but I am going to look for some new ones because I've had it for a long time now.

THANK YOU!!!!!! :)

Mon Mar 28, 2005 3:01 am

Isn't it great when you try everything you possibly can to fix something and it doesn't work, and then you just leave your computer on and it works.

Mon Mar 28, 2005 3:12 am

Weird stuff! lol.. never heard of that happening, but hey, it seems like everything's fixed. Are you sure you didn't reboot?

Mon Mar 28, 2005 3:16 am

I left my computer on overnight and got up and went to favorites --> NBA.com and WHAM!

There it was! :o (Y)

Just for future reference get a firewall and anti-virus to protect your computer from unwanted parasities.

I protect my computer with

-Symantec Firewall
-Norton Anti-Virus
-WinPatrol
-Spybot
-Lavasoft Ad-Ware
-Bazooka Scanner
-System Mechanic 5
-Big Fix
-Hijack This
-Windows Update ****

Lol wtf can you even turn your own computer on anymore?

Tue Mar 29, 2005 3:26 pm

When he turns it on they all take turns scanning the computer... if they all scan at the same time their innate business espionage programming will identify each other as a virus and attempt to destroy the competition by deleting them.. so I guess he turns it on goes to work, comes back home and his computer is all ready for him..

I only use one thing... it's a trial of bitdefender.. (bitdefender.com). If you go to a website that tries to give you spyware, a little thing pops up bottom right of your screen that tells you it was blocked.. one time my desktop got hijacked (relatively new format too.. ) I got bitdefender installed again and it destroyed that little hijacker within seconds..
