Thanks guys, means a lot to me that you posted in this dynasty. Didn't see any Memphis dynasties on the main page, so I decided I'd start one... My first ever dynasty posted on here, so I hope everyone can be patient with my stuff. Also, I'm not that great of a player, I definitely won't be having crazy 26-2 records like most people here. Anyways, any comments/suggestions, feel free to post em.

Next up, Seattle's recap.

Image Sixers spoil home opener

Image 86
Image 78

Playing their first home game of the season, the Grizzlies wanted to start the season off right. Alas, it was not meant to be as Allen Iverson and Chris Webber come away with their second win of the season.

The Grizzlies came out on fire in the first quarter, with Gasol leading the way with 10 points at the end of the first. Sixers were giving Webber a lot of touches that quarter, but he simply could not find his rythm, missing 4 of 5 shots. Score at 26-17, the Grizzlies enter the second quarter with a 9 point lead.

Image
Lorenzo Wright drives by Chris Webber for the slam.

The surprise of the night was the performance of James Posey, who took advantage of his matchup with the slower Kyle Korver. Averaging 13.7 points last year with the Grizzlies, Posey exploded in the 2nd quarter, finishing with 19 points at the half. But they don't call Iverson The Answer for no reason, as he kept the Sixers alive and actually cut into the Memphis lead. He finished with 16 at the half, Memphis up by 4.

The score was tied up in the third quarter and remained that way until the last 5 minutes of the last quarter. With Webber making key plays on the defensive and offensive end, the Sixers were able to pull away from the Grizzlies. CWebb came up with a key block up Gasol, and on that same play finished with a dunk. Kyle Korver sealed the deal with back to back 3s and the lead was simply unsurmountable for the Grizz.

Grizzlies simply collapsed in the 4th quarter and just could not get anything together. They coughed up 4 turnovers in the last 5 minutes, including a needless backcourt violation by Jason Williams. Memphis was also horrible from the line, shooting 1 for 10.

"Our execution was horrendous in the 4th quarter" said coach Fratello. "We were right with them the whole game and just disappeared at the end. It was a game we would have liked to win, but we just couldn't get the job done."

Player of the game
Allen Iverson

Key Stats
Philadelphia Sixers
Allen Iverson 28 points, 5 assists
Chris Webber 20 points, 11 rebounds

Memphis Grizzlies

Image Grizzlies maul down the Supersonics

Image 99
Image 79

Coming off a frustrating loss to the Sixers, Fratello and the boys were hungry
for their first win of the season. With the Sonics holding a 4-1 record, a true
team effort was needed... and surely, a team came out to play.

In the 1st, Posey started where he left off the previous night, draining a
3-pointer immediately after the tip-off and then sinking a deuce on the
following possession. The Sonics struggled to keep up with Memphis' hot
shooting, but stayed alive trailing by 7 entering the 2nd.

The two teams continued exchanging baskets in the first three minutes.
But when the bench players came on for Memphis, the game took a
severe turn. Wright was the only starter on the floor, dominating his
matchup with Evans. However, it was Battier and Wells who came
through for the Grizzlies. They combined for 23 points on 10 for 14
shooting in the night.

"I felt good" said Battier. "It didn't matter who you put on me, I felt like I
couldn't miss."

At the half, Seattle was down by 14. In the 3rd, Seattle mustered a late
run, tying the game at 52 a piece. At that point, Fratello called a timeout
and made sure a repeat of the Sixers game would not happen. Led by
Posey once again, the Grizzlies dominated the remainder of the game and
never trailed once. Memphis had tremendous success from the field,
shooting 64.2% (43 for 67) and 6 for 12 from the three point land.

When asked about being the team's point leader, Posey had this to say:
"You know, I don't really notice it that much. I mean it's nice, but it's not
about who scores the most. Tonight, we showed that we're not a team
with one superstar; we're a team with multiple. Every night, there's a
different hero."

The Grizzlies had 5 players scoring double digits and 2 players scoring
nine.

Image 88

Memphis came out with a rough start against the Los Angeles Clippers (3-3).
After Posey's miss on an open 3 point attempt, Corey Maggette responded
on the other end of the floor with one of his own, sparking a 7-2 lead early in
the first quarter. The Grizzlies were having a hard time finding their rythm
early on, including 2 blocks by Kaman on Gasol in two straight possessions.
Memphis snapped out of their funk after a beautiful 3-point play by Jason
Williams and sparked an 8-0 run. Grizzlies gained the lead at the end of
the 1st, 19-15.

Image
Wright posterizes Elton Brand.

In the second quarter, Gasol was a man on a mission. Frustrated by his
two denials in the first, he went straight at Kaman and scored 8 points in 4
minutes, forcing Los Angeles to call a timeout. The timeout led to a
powerful dunk by Elton Brand, but they simply could not slow down the
Grizzlies and trailed by 8 at the half.

Grizzlies came out strong again in the 3rd, led by Battier and Williams.
Battier was causing all sorts of problems, draining both attempts from
the arc and hit another deep 2. He scored all his points in the 2nd half,
finishing with 13 points. The Clippers were slipping away, trailing 64-52.

But the Clippers were not done yet. They came out firing at the beginning
of the 4th quarter, going on a 7-2 run. The Grizzlies tried to answer
back, draining back-to-back threes by Miller and Williams. Williams had
his best game of the season, with 6-7 shooting and 1-1 from the arc.
But the Clippers came back firing with Jaric and Maggette both
connecting beyond the arc. After two key offensive boards by Kaman, the
lead was cut to 5. With 1:30 remaining, Swift, Gasol and JWilliams were
all fouled, but the Grizzlies were horrendous from the FT line, only hitting
1 in the quarter. But the Clippers failed to convert, with Jaric, Maggette
and Simmons failing to connect from downtown. Grizzlies escape 88-85.

Highlight of the night

The Stro Show does it again, converting a reverse alley-oop. Swift was instrumental in the Grizzlies win, pulling 16 boards off the bench in 23 mins.

Image Memphis wins in a night of wonders

Image 93
Image 96

You could sense the relief in Pau Gasol's eyes after the buzzer, as his
Grizzlies won their 3rd straight game and their first at home.

Grizzlies got off to a slow start, missing their first few attempts, but it was
Jason Williams who led the way in the first. After a steal by Posey,
Williams gets the lead pass for an open layup. On the ensueing
possession, Williams hits the 3 ball and gives the Grizzlies a safe lead.
Jason Posey returned back to his usual self, showing some strong hussle
on the defensive end. He had 3 steals in the quarter and finish with 7 in
the game. The Jazz had trouble getting their offence started and trailed
by 6 at the end of the first, 20-14.

Image
Gasol finished the layup, even though he was hit on the play. No foul was called.

Gasol was struggling in the first two quarters, scoring only 3 points while
coughing up 3 turnovers. But, the bench was able to step up and the
Grizzlies were able to keep their lead at the half. The Jazz woke up at the
end of the 2nd quarter, starting with a 3 point play, following with a 3
pointer by Raja Bell. Mike Miller responded with one of his own, but
Kirilenko sank another two after. Utah was showing signs of a comeback
in the third...

Image
Raja Bell is fouled on the play, but still manages to hit for two.

Utah did not miss a single shot in the first 6 minutes of the third quarter,
including a wild basket by Carl Boozer. Boozer catches a pass from Bell
in mid-air and flips the ball behind him over his head, going straight in for
the swish. Everything seemed to fall for the Jazz. Game tied entering the
4th quarter.

Image
Boozer amazingly manages to convert the reverse alley-oop play.

After a rough first half, Gasol gathered himself and stepped up in the 4th
quarter for the Grizzlies, scoring 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. But
most notably was the performance of Battier, coming up with big baskets
yet again down the stretch. Battier gave the Grizzlies a 5 point lead in the
last 1:30 with an uncontested jam. Raja Bell, who had 22 points in
the game, responded with a 3 pointer, pulling the game within 2. On the
other end, Gasol had the ball down low, but was immediately faced with
a double team. He dished the ball to an open Battier and calmly sinks the
3 pointer to regain the lead. He had all of his 11 points in the last quarter.
Battier's 3 ball seemed to have secured the lead with 20 seconds
remaining, but the Jazz were not done yet. The Jazz were looking for an
open look beyond the arc, but the only open man was Collins. Standing
at the 3 point line, Collins got the ball, sidestepped and launched it. Gasol
mistimed his jump and landed on top of Collins. But even with the
contact, the ball went in and Collins earned a trip to the free throw line.
The Jazz pulls it to within 1, 94-93. Jason Williams is immediately fouled,
and sinks both in to give the Grizz a 3 point lead. With 2.6 seconds left,
and no timeouts, the Jazz tried to rush the ball up the court but were
unable to execute. Memphis wins 96-93.

Has anyone ever had that happen to them? I mean Collins is rated 0 in 3PT shooting, and yet he still makes it with full body contact.

Image Young Hawks no match for the Grizzlie Growl

Image 88
Image 70

Memphis looked to extend their 3 game winning streak against the Atlanta
Hawks, who had just traded away their star player Antoine Walker a few
weeks ago. Interesting note: Mike Miller did not start for the second game in
a row. Coach Mike Fratello refused to comment.

The Atlanta Hawks were finding themselves in all sorts of problems on the
defensive end during the first half. Not able to contain Memphis' inside
game, the Hawks committed 14 fouls during that section. Mike Miller was
able to awaken from his recent slump, hitting two deep 2s to help the
Grizzlies lead by 6 at the end of the first. He would finish the night with 15
points.

Image
REJECTED! Gasol set the tone early, blocking Al Harrington.

In the second quarter, Hawks' veteran Gary Payton single-handledly kept
Atlanta in the game, scoring 13 points on 6 for 7 shooting from the field.
He had 17 points by the half, as Atlanta kept the Grizzlies lead to 6, 42-36.

Image
Payton knocks down the fadeaway.

After having a sluggish first half, Al Harrington woke up and took it to the
Grizzlies. A minute into the quarter, Harrington grabs the team's first
offensive board and slams it down, and would continue to dominate as he
scored the Hawks' next 7 points. However, Posey answered at the other
end of the floor, and helped give his team a 10 point lead.

Image
Harrington hammers it down even with the defender in his face.

Atlanta seemed depleted in the fourth quarter, only managing to shoot
6 for 20 from the field. Mike Miller, the Assassin, extended the Memphis
lead to 15 after his 3-pointer and put the game out of reach. Burks saw
a couple minutes in the quarter and scored his first point, as well as
grabbing his first assist and rebound.

Payton, leading all scorers with 31 points, clearly looked frustrated at the
end of the game. Despite his effort on the offensive end, he had no help
from his teammates on the glass. The Hawks were outrebounded 32-51,
and 4-13 on the offensive boards. Payton had this to say: "I don't have
that many years left in me, and this is not how I want to end my career."

An issue now for Mike Fratello is deciding who he should start next game
at the shooting guard position. Wells has been playing consistently since
being a starter, averaging 10.0 ppg. But after Miller's performance tonight,
coach Fratello will have a tough decision. "At the beginning of the season,
I felt that Miller was still feeling the effects of his back injury from last
season. I think he really stepped it up tonight, and it will be interesting to
see how he progresses within the next couple days."

ImageGrizzlies win in a thriller against the Spurs

Image 136
Image 137 (2OT)

In their first sell-out of the season, Memphis fans were in for a treat last
night when the Grizzlies tipped off against the San Antonio Spurs.

Image
Ginobli found his shooting touch early in the game and finished with 28 points.

The game started with intensity and both teams showed no mercy to the
other. Both teams refused to give the other team the lead and exchanged
points back and forth. Every time the Grizzlies would tried to pull away
with a slim lead, the Spurs would answer right back with a three pointer.
Leading the way was Manu Ginobli, who was 3/5 from the arc in the first.
The second quarter was the exact same story, but this time San Antonio
was led by Tony Parker, who was perfect on 4/4 FG and 1/1 3PT and
finished with 9 points in the quarter. Game tied 48-48.

Image
Jason Williams hits the tough shot over Tony Parker.

In the third quarter, the Grizzlies came out firing. Mike Miller, who did not
start for the 4th consecutive game, drains an open jumper to spark a 12-0
run. During that stretch, Williams was able to convert a 3-point play.
Also, Gasol came up with a key block on Ginobli and on the other end,
Williams was able to shake off Parker and hit for two. San Antonio calls
a timeout. With the game looking to be out of reach, Tony Parker took
over once again. Parker ends the run with a three pointer, and continued
to dominate, scoring 12 points in 6 minutes. Spurs down by 1, 71-70.

Image
Gasol was everywhere last night, registering 28 points, 16 rebounds, 8
assists, 3 steals and 1 block.

After a horrible third quarter, Ginobli stepped up in the 4th to give the
Spurs a 6 point lead. He scored the Spurs' first 7 points, including a
contested jumper and 3 pointer. Bowen's open 3 pointer gave the Spurs
an 8 point advantage with 3:30 remaining. Williams would end the run,
driving hard to the basket for a difficult lay-up. Gasol would cut the lead
to four with a jumper over Duncan. Then, the Spurs make a careless
pass and Wright intercepts it, passes it to Williams and draws the foul. He
hits both free throws and the score is 90-88. Frustrated with the previous
play, Parker drives down the court and drains a jumper with Wright right
over him. However, sticking with the theme of the entire game, Williams
answers right back with one of his own. With 46 seconds left, Wright
causes yet another turnover and gives the lead pass to Gasol who slams
it home to tie the game with 31.2 seconds left. The rest of regulation
would solve nothing and both teams head to overtime.

Image
Gasol comes up big as he forces overtime with the strong finish.

San Antonio pulled away early in the first overtime after a steal by Parker
and a pair of free throws by Duncan. Spurs go up 4, but Bonzi Wells hits
a wide open three pointer after a double team on Gasol. Genobli would
answer on the other end and hits for two over Posey to give the Spurs a
3 point lead. Timeout by Memphis. Stromile Swift comes off the bench
and on his first touch, he slams it down right over Robert Horry. Horry
was a serious liability on the defensive end, letting Wright and Swift
scoring in the double digits. After a miss by San Antonio, the Grizzlies go
to Swift again and lets go another emphatic dunk. The crowd went wild
at that point, clearly enjoying the Stro Show. Spurs call a timeout and
regroup. The ball is given to Parker, and he drives in for the layup, Spurs
up by 1. On the other end, Posey nails a shot over Barry. Spurs miss on
the next play, Gasol gathers the rebound and lobs it over to Posey who
slams it down on the fast break. With the Grizzlies up by 3 with less than
a minute left, the crowd was on their feet. San Antonio calls another
timeout. They would run a screen and Parker hits a three pointer to tie
the game. Grizzlies call a timeout and they give Williams the ball. With
12.0 seconds left, Williams calmly sinks the jumper over Parker to give
Memphis a 2 point lead. Without any timeouts left, San Antonio had to
quickly run the ball up the court. Grizzlies were playing tight D, and the
only man open was Robert Horry. He pulls away from Lorenzo Wright and
drives in for the layup, but gets fouled on the play. With the game on the
line, it was do or die for Horry. Just like his days with the Lakers, Horry
came up big and sunk both free throws, forcing double overtime.

Image
The Stro Show was on again, coming off the bench to give the Grizzlies a huge momentum boost.

The Spurs were lucky that the game went into extra time because Duncan
shook off his cobwebs and came up big for San Antonio during the extra
periods. After only mustering 10 points during regulation, Duncan showed
the crowd why he's always considered as the league's MVP year in and
year out. He started with a difficult shot on Gasol, even getting contact,
but no foul was called. Grizzlies would answer with a couple baskets of
their own but Duncan ties it up with a similar play to before, but this time
he finally draws the foul. On the next possession, Williams would hit a
jumper, but Parker answers right back with a strong drive down the lane.
The teams would continue to exchange a basket each, until a steal by
Posey would give the Grizzlies a two point lead, 129-127. Timeout San
Antonio.

Image
Tony Parker shoots over Wright. He would finish with a career-high 38 points.

They run another screen, but this time with Ginobli on the receiving end
and connects on the jumper. On the other end of the floor, Gasol gets the
ball downlow and goes for the layup... but is blocked by Duncan! On that
same play, the Spurs run the ball up the floor and finds an open Duncan
who lays it in. Grizzlies try to convert on their next play, but come up
empty. On the other end, Spurs also fail to connect but Duncan manages
to grab the offensive board and slams it down to give them a 4 point lead,
132-129. Grizzlies call a timeout, and Miller is back in the game. They
gave Miller the ball and he manages to draw contact on the play. He sinks
his first free throw. The Grizzlies decide to run a risky play, and Miller
intentionally misses the free throw... Gasol manages to grab the board
and lays it in to bring the game within 1 with less than a minute left. On
the other end, the Grizzlies had a serious lapse in defence and former
dunk champion Brent Barry dunks it in to give the Spurs a 3 point lead.
Timeout Memphis. They quickly inbound the ball to Jason Williams, who
manages to pull away from Parker and hits the three pointer and ties the
game with 22.4 seconds left! San Antonio runs the ball up the court, gives
the ball to Ginobli who hits a jumper with 1.7 seconds left. Memphis calls
a timeout. With less than 2 seconds left on the clock, the Grizzlies
needed a big play. They manage to pass the ball to Williams, who
immediately turns and shoots over Parker beyond the 3 point line....
nothing but nylon, Memphis win 137-136!

Highlight of the night
Image
Jason Williams scores the buzzer beater, leading the Grizzlies over the
San Antonio Spurs.

Player of the game
Jason Williams 34 points
In the battle of the point guards, Tony Parker and Jason Williams both had
career games. However, Jason Williams came out on top, scoring two
clutch 3 pointers in that last 30 seconds.

After a heart stopping win against the San Antonio Spurs, the Grizzlies looked
for a slightly less stressful game against the new expansion Charlotte
Bobcats. But what they looked for was not what they got...

The Grizzlies had a sluggish start, especially Memphis' Pau Gasol. He was
rejected 4 times in the post; twice by Brezec, once each by Okafor and
Allen. "Every time I got the ball down low, they would put heavy pressure
on me. I had a tough time getting shots off" said Gasol. Memphis
finished the quarter down by 3.

Brezec comes up with a monster block on Gasol in the first.

The Bobcats would extend their lead after a nice reverse layup by Wallace
on Battier. But once Memphis put Gasol back on, he made Charlotte pay.
On his first touch, he converts a 3 point play and that would lead to a 15-0
run by the Grizzlies in the second quarter. During that stretch, they would
go up by 12. But Okafor would return to the floor and cut the lead down
to 8 entering the half.

Miller came out on fire, sinking his first two shots of the game. However, those
would be the only two he scored all night in yet another disappointing night.

Both teams could not find their rhythm in the third quarter. Memphis shot
36.8% while the Bobcats should 33.3%. But, in the fourth quarter, the
Bobcats caught fire, shooting 52.9% from the field. Brian Knight, playing
with intensity, led the Bobcats on a 10-0 run to get the Bobcats back into
the game. After a timeout by Charlotte, Knight drives in and gets fouled
hard by Williams. He sinks both free throws to cut the Memphis lead to 4.
After a failed attempt by Memphis, Knight drives in again, fakes out Gasol
and sinks the pretty jumper to make the score 73-71. The Grizzlies come
up empty again, and Knight dribbles it down the court, pulls up from mid-
range in heavy traffic and nails it. Score tied 73-73, timeout Memphis.
On the other end of the floor, Wright would silence the crowd with a
powerful dunk over Okafor to give the Grizzlies a two point lead. But
Okafor would answer right back with a baseline shot over Wright. On the
next possession, Mike Miller takes the shot, fails to connect, but the board
is grabbed by Gasol who then slams it down to make the score 77-75.
Okafor tries to answer at the other end of the floor, but rims out... board
grabbed by Brezec and he ties the game 77-77! He led the Bobcats in
rebounds, including 4 on the offensive end. The Bobcats are the first
team this season to outrebound the Grizzlies.

Bobcats' comeback in the fourth.

Grizzlies try desperately to gain the lead, but Posey misses a couple
inside lay-ups. The Bobcats return on the other end, handing the ball to
Okafor inside, and gets fouled by Wright with 1:09 left in the game. He
misses his first attempt, but makes his second giving the Bobcats a one
point lead. On the next play, Jason Williams tries to get the ball to Gasol,
but the ball slips and he throws it out of bounds. With 46 seconds left on
the clock, the Bobcats try to waste some time and end up giving the ball
to Okafor. He misses, but grabs the board and is immediately fouled with
11.0 seconds left on the clock. Okafor goes 1/2 from the line and the
score is 79-77. Grizzlies call a timeout and Fratello draws out a play.
They inbound it to Wells, and pass it to Williams. But the Bobcats were all
over him, not wanting a similar fate as the San Antonio Spurs last week.
Unable to find an open shot, Gasol sets a pick for J-Will, who pulls up to
jack the three... and is fouled by Brezec! "I stepped up to the free throw
line and I knew exactly what I had to do" said Williams. He dribbled the
ball and sunk the first... and then the next, and the third as well. Memphis
had a point advantage with 5.6 seconds left. With one timeout left, the
Bobcats tried to get a play together. They inbound it to Brezec, but with
Memphis playing tight D, they could not find the open man. Brezec is
forced to shoot the three, but comes up empty. Memphis wins 80-79.

Player of the game
Pau Gasol 24 assists, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal
Even though the Grizzlies needed Williams' big free throws to win the
game, Gasol was a key factor in last night's game. Without his presence,
the Grizzlies seemed lost on both offence and defence.

Image Davis and Pierce burn the Grizzlies

Coming off two close wins to extend their winning streak to 6, the Grizzlies
looked unbeatable. But last night, the Boston Celtics had something to say
about that and shocked the home crowd at Memphis.

A strong effort by Boston's backcourt helped lift the Celtics over the
Grizzlies in a very convincing win. Ricky Davis led the way with 30 points
on 58.6% shooting from the field (14/24). Paul Pierce also had a strong
night, finishing with 22 points on 10/19 shooting.

Bonzi Wells could do nothing but watch most of the night as Pierce took advantage
of his height advantage in the matchup.

The game was tight until the half-time, with the Boston Celtics leading 52-
50. Celtics managed to go on an early run to go up by 8, but the Grizzlies
quickly responded and cut the lead to 3, 64-61. But then, Pierce and
Davis exploded. A 3 pointer by Davis led to a huge run by the Celtics,
and ended up leading by 17 at the end of the third. Davis and Pierce
scored 12 and 8 points respectively in the quarter. The Grizzlies had all
sorts of matchup problems. They were constantly leaving men open on
the perimeter, allowing the Celtics to connect 4 of 7 from the arc and
shot 68.2% from the field.

Image
Ricky Davis led the third-quarter eruption against the Grizzlies. He scored all
his 30 points in the first three quarters of play and sat out the fourth.

The Celtics lead went as high as 20 in the fourth. Memphis went on a late
charge in the fourth, cutting the lead to 9. They were lead by Posey, who
had 6 points, 3 assists and a steal in the last 4 minutes of play.

Image
Wright shows his strength by driving by Walker and finishing with a two-handed jam.

"Unfortunately, the effort was too late," Fratello said. "We let the game
slip away in third quarter and it was simply too much to recover from."

Banks also had a big night for the Celtics, shooting over 60% from the
field and registered 19 points and 7 assists. Walker had 14 points and 6
assists.

The Grizzlies had strong performances from their front line, with Gasol
and Wright scoring 29 and 24 points respectively, and grabbed 7 boards
a piece. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies' inside game was not enough to
beat the Celtics. Memphis continues to have disappointing performances
from their shooting guards, with Wells and Miller getting 0 and 4
respectively.

Highlight of the night

Posey tries to reenergize the Grizzlies during the fourth quarter with a powerful slam.

Player of the game
Ricky Davis 30 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
The Grizzlies could not find a solution against Ricky Davis, who dominated
both from close and from far on the offensive end.
