Blazers fall to Jazz on the road

Portland 74, Jazz 89 | Top Performers

Portland - Damon Stoudamire
Image
24 pts, 3 rebounds, 8 assists

Utah - Andrei Kirilenko
Image
21 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals

The Blazers were down 4 as the 4th quarter began and they didnt take the lead the rest of the game. Damon Stoudamire had 16 4th quarter points as Portland tried to take the lead, but couldnt. Stoudamire finished with 24 points and 8 assists. Darius Miles led the team with 9 rebounds and had 7 points shooting 3 of 7 from the field. Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 15 points and 6 rebouns and Joel Pryzbilla had 2 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Carlos Arroyo led the Jazz with 26 points and 5 assists. Mehmet Okur had 3 blocks to go with 5 points and 9 rebounds. The Blazers shot only 36% percent from the field and Utah shot only 32%. The Blazers were out-rebounded 48-39. Portland should look for some rebounding help during the off-season, which they really need help in.

Portland hosts Allen Iverson and 76ers (8-7) Sunday then go on the road against the Hawks the next day. They then have 2 straight road games against the Bucks and the Nets before the All-Star break.

The Blazers head out on the road again next Tuesday to face the Andre Kirilenko and the struggling Utah Jazz (3-9).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jan 16: 76ers 105, Blazers 87

Damon Stoudamire - 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
Daris Miles - 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists
Shareef Abdur-Rahim - 20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals

Glenn Robinson - 34 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists
Allen Iverson - 16 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists
Corliss Williamson - 10 points, 6 rebounds, 0 assists

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jan 17: Blazers 105 Hawks 99 Final OT

Joel Pryzbilla - 10 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks
Shareef Abdur-Rahim - 18 points, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks
Derek Anderson - 14 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists

Antoine Walker - 26 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists
Al Harrington - 12 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists
Tyronne Lue - 17 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists

Darius Miles got injured in the 4th quarter but returned for a short while in over time. It was later learned he has a strained achilles tendon and will be out 13 days. He will not be available for the Blazers home game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Ruben Patterson will start in his place. Miles could be available for the game against the Nets. If not, Miles has plenty of time to rest with the All-Star break coming up.

This is certainly a huge loss for the Blazers. Miles is one of, if not the best player on this Blazers team. He is a big part of the defense this team has. This season so far Miles is averaging 14.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.07 blocks.

The Blazers (6-8) have the Bucks and Nets at home before the All-Star Break.

Blazers win 2 straight, top Van Horn and Bucks

Portland 135, Milwaukee 125 | Top Performers

Portland - Sebastian Telfair
Image
11 points, 2 rebounds, 10 assists

Milwaukee - Joe Smith
Image
16 points, 17 rebounds, 2 blocks

The Blazers are still on a quest for a playoff berth. They are in the 10th spot in the Western conference and are 1 game behind the 8th spot Phoenix Suns. This was a big win at home for the Blazers.

Mo Cheeks made some lineup changes before the game. With Darius Miles out, Shareef Abdur-Rahim moved to SF and Zach Randolph made the start at PF. Several players saw more minutes than usual with Darius Miles being out and Shareef-Abdur Rahim injuring his arm in the 1st quarter. 'Reef later returned and finished the game with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists. Sebastian Telfair saw more action at point guard, dishing out 10 assists and scoring 11 points in 14 minutes. Damon Stoudamire scored 23 points with 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 23 minutes of action. Mighty Mouse and Telfair will continue to share time at the point guard position. Zach Randolph led the Blazers in scoring with 30 points and also grabbed 8 rebounds and had 1 block.

The Blazers led 31-26 at the end of the first and continued to lead after every quarter. They led 59-50 at halftime and the Bucks came back and tied it 63-63 in almost 2 minutes. Damon Stoudamire hit a last second 3 pointer at the end of the 3rd. It was reviewed and the refs said it counts.

Vladimir Stepenia saw 14 minutes of action and had a solid performace scoring 8 points, grabbing 8 boards and dishing out 5 assists. Theo Ratliff had 13 points and 4 rebounds and Joel Pryzbilla scored 11 points and had 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Keith Van Horn led the Bucks with 27 points and had 3 rebounds. Van Horn also had 3 blocks. T.J. Ford had 22 points and 6 assists in 7-14 shooting. Joe Smith led the Bucks with 17 rebounds and also had 16 points and 2 blocks. The Bucks dropped to 7-10 and the Blazers improved to 7-8 and are in the hunt for Western Conference playoffs.

The Blazers host Vince Carter and the Nets (8-6) at home in the last game before the All-Star Break.

Darius Miles talks with reporters about his injury

Darius Miles Questionable for game against Nets

Doctors say Portland Trail Blazers foward Darius Miles still needs a few days to recover from a strained achilles tendon. Miles spoke with reporters after the Blazers defeated the Bucks.

"I really do feel fine. Im not completely 100% but I think I can play in our next game. Ill go through some drills before gametime and see how I feel. Hopefully Ill be fine because Im anxious to get back out on the court and help my team."

We will see Tuesday if Miles can play as the Blazers host the Nets in the last game before the All-Star break.

Tough luck on the Miles injury, but nice win in OT against the Hawks. OT games are great... but only if you come out on top. Nice recaps, I like the format.

Blazers head into All-Star break on a bad note

Portland 113, Nets 116 | Top Performers

Portland - Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Image
13-22, 32 points, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks

New Jersey - Vince Carter
Image
17-27, 42 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists

The Nets ridiculously hit just about every 3 pointer they attempted and that gave them the edge against the Blazers. Shareef Abdur-Rahim led the Blazers with 32 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds. Darius Miles made the start despite his injury and had 23 minutes of action. He finished with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Joel Pryzbilla had 12 points and 8 rebounds and Zach Randolph had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Sebastian Telfair led the Blazers in assists for the 2nd straight time, this time dishing out 8 assists and scoring 12 points on 5-14 shooting. Damon Stoudamire finished with 15 points and 4 assists. The game was tied going into the 4th quarter and both teams were making field goals back to back, but New Jersey outplayed Portland and got away with the win. The Blazers drop to 7-9 and are still in the hunt for the playoffs. They will get some time to rest during the All-Star Break.

Vince Carter led New Jersey with 42 points and Cliff Robinson led the team in rebounds with 18. Jason Kidd had 22 points and 3 assists and the Blazers held Richard Jefferson to just 4 points. The Nets shot 36% from the field and the Blazers shot only 41% from the field. The Nets improved too 9-6.

In other News, doctors have said Darius Miles is 100% and will be healthy after the All-Star break.

All-Star Weekend Recap

Image

Dan: Good evening and welcome to Sportscenter. Im Dan Patrick and this is Kenny Mayne. Today we are going to recap the NBA All-Star Weekend from Denver, Colorado. It was an exciting weekend for all the fans and the players.

Kenny: It certainly was. We had an exciting Slam Dunk Contest this year. Lets start off with the Rookie Challenge. The Rookies are led by Bobcats Center Emeka Okafor and the Sophmores are led by Cavs foward Lebron James.

(I simulated the Rookie Challenge)

Rookies: 85
Sophmores: 94

Kenny: Now onto the 3 point shootout. There were several participants this year including Portlands Damon Stoudamire and the Pistons Rasheed Wallace.

Image
Damon Stoudamire gets ready for the 3 point shootout

Image

Image

Dan: Damon Stoudamire had a poor performance at the 3 point shootout, as he only made 2 of the balls. He commented after it and said "It was just a bad day for me to shoot 3's. I just wasnt feeling it and I dont know what happened out there. Maybe Ill do better if I get invited back next year".

Scores:

Damon Stoudamire - 2
Rashard Lewis - 18
Peja Stojakovic - 16
Jason Williams - 26
Quentin Richardson - 17
Bruce Bowen - 12
Rasheed Wallace - 25
Cliff Robinson - 14

Kenny: Rasheed Wallace and Jason Williams both advanced to the finals and also were the only players to have over 20 points. But in the finals, it was all about Jason Williams.

Image

Kenny: Williams beat Rasheed Wallace with a score of 25. Rasheed had a score of 11.

2005 3 Point Shootout Champion: Jason Williams of the Memphis Grizzlies

Dan: Now, the Slam Dunk Contest this year was exciting. Participating in it were Richard Jefferson of the Nets, Lebron James of the Cavs, Travis Outlaw of the Trail Blazers, and Ricky Davis of the Celtics.

Image

Dan: First timer Travis Outlaw had a couple pretty good dunks but they werent enough to impress the Judges. Outlaw had a score of 32 on both of his dunk attempts in the first round and didnt advance to the 2nd round.

Dan: Richard Jefferson got scores of 40 and 49. He did an Alley-Oop 1 hander on his first attempt and did a Self Toss 360 1 hander on his second.

Ricky Davis had scores of 49 both times. On his 1st attempt, he did a 360 1 handed dunk and on his 2nd he did a Self Toss 360 1 handed dunk.

Image

Lebron James easily advanced to the 2nd round with both of his scores being 50. He did a spectacular 540 behind the back both hands dunk on his 1st dunk. For his 2nd dunk he got a 50 with the infamous Arm in the Rim. Lebron and Ricky Davis both advanced to Round 2.

Ricky Davis had scores of 42 and 50 on his 2 dunks, but once again Lebron swept him and had 2 scores of 50 again.

2005 Slam Dunk Champion: Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers

Kenny: Now on to the big one. The 2005 All-Star game between the Eastern and Western Conferences. Yao Ming is yet again making the start at Center for the West. This year Shaq gets to start but for a different conference.

(I played the All-Star game, and represented the Western Conference)

West cruises past East for another All-Star game win

West 129, East 117

Recap: | Box Score

Image

The All-Star game was a pretty exciting one. A lot of players saw some playing time. The West dominated the whole game, never trailing after a quarter. The leading scorer for the West was Elton Brand of the Los Angeles Clippers. Brand went 10-14 from the field with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Kevin Garnett was 2nd in scoring with 18 points and he had 4 rebounds and 3 blocks. Another reserve with a big game was Spurs foward Tim Duncan. Duncan had 16 points on 8 of 11 shooting and had 4 rebounds and a block. Steve Nash and Tracy McGrady both had 5 assists and Nash finished with 12 points and McGrady had 13.

The leading scorer of the game and the Eastern Conference was Allen Iverson with 22 points. Shaquille O'Neal had a great performance in his debut with the Eastern Conference All-Stars. The Diesel recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Rasheed Wallace also recorded a double-double and had a monster game, grabbing 20 rebounds and scoring 10 points.

Image

Yao Ming was named the games MVP. Yao went 6-11 from the field with 13 Points, 7 Rebounds, 4 Assists, and 2 blocks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dan: Thank You for watching our recap of the NBA All-Star Weekend. Tune into SportsCenter tonight at 11 PM for news from around the NBA trade deadline.

Jermaine O'Neal returning to Portland

Image

Suprisingly, the Portland Trailblazers were the only team in the NBA who were active at the NBA Trade Deadline.

The Portland Trailblazers are looking to rebuild and make the playoffs this year. They dropped to the 13th playoff spot in the Western Conference and as head coach Mo Cheeks said: "We aren't planning on staying there."

So the Portland Trail Blazers went and aquired Jermaine O'Neal from the Indinana Pacers for PF's Zach Randolph and Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Mo Cheeks said they needed a dominate Power Foward to fill that spot. He feels both teams got what they needed in the trade. The Blazers got the dominant Foward they need, and the Pacers got 2 great players to replace O'Neal.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim commented on the trade today:

Image

Shareef: If Its what both teams want, them Im fine with it. As long as I get some playing time because I dont think I belong on the bench. And I will be going to a contending team, so thats always good.

Zach Randolph was not available for comment.

Jermaine O'Neal was originally drafted by Portland out of High School back in 1996 and spent his first 4 years with the team, averaging 7.4 PPG with Portland. His scoring never went up until he joined the Pacers but it will this time as he will be a starter for Portland.

Blazers trade Nick Van Exel to the Bobcats

Image

For financial reasons, the Blazers have sent Guard Nick Van Exel to the Bobcats for Foward Gerald Wallace. Van Exel's contract expires at the end of the season and reports say the Blazers werent interested in re-signing him. Portland cleared up about $10 million in cap space with this trade. Portland is still $27.82 million over the cap. Some notable expiring contracts at the end of this season are Damon Stoudamire, Theo Ratliff, and Joel Pryzbilla.

The Blazers are reportedly interested in re-signing Stoudamire. Nothing is know about Ratliff and Pryzbilla, who are a big part of the Blazers defense.

Free Agent Signings around the League

Atlanta Hawks sign C Alonzo Mourning to a 1 year $5.05 million contract

Image

After being traded to Toronto in the Vince Carter trade, Alonzo Mourning never reported to the Raptors and was will recovering from injuries. The former Heat and Nets Center reached a buyout deal for his contract in Toronto. Mourning has now signed with the Atlanta Hawks and will start at the Center position.

Portland signs SG Eric Piatkowski to a 1 year $1.10 million contract

Image

Needing a backup for Derek Anderson, the Blazers went out and signed Free Agent guard Eric Piatkowski. Piatkowski is an excellent 3 pointer shooter and Free-Throw Maker. He will be a very solid backup to Anderson.

Blazers head coach Maurice Cheeks has said Travis Outlaw and Viktor Khryapa will be moving to the Power Foward position. He said these were great moves and said their height makes them better at this position. Khryapa and Outlaw are both 6'9" and will benefit from these moves.

(This was a good move because there ratings increase when I move them to PF. I had way too many SFs anyway and I wanted to do this. I updated and gave my depth chart a new look too :) Thanks for the comments too (Y))

Defending Champs feel Jermaine O'Neals presence

Portland 130, Pistons 111 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal

41 points, 8 rebounds, 6 blocks

Detroit Pistons - Ben Wallace

21 points, 15 rebounds, 2 blocks

Jermaine O'Neal is running the show, and his teammates wouldnt have it any other way

Jermaine O'Neals first game as the newest Blazer was a good one. O'Neal led all scorers with 41 points plus 8 rebounds and 6 blocks. He went 20 of 28 from the field and also had 3 assists. Definetley a monster game for the newly aquired O'Neal. With O'Neal back in Portland, the Blazers could still make the playoffs. O'Neal played all but 9 minutes of the game, showing how much of a force he was. Darius Miles was well rested and healthy after the All-Star break. He scored 27 points and dished out 5 assists, shooting 12 of 14 from the field. Eric Piatkowski scored 6 points off 2 Three Point shots in his Portland debut. He went 2 of 3 from downtown. Travis Outlaw will get some more playing time now at both Foward positions, but will mostly play while Jermaine O'Neal rests. He scored 6 points and had 5 rebounds in todays win. And Joel Pryzbilla had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds plus 2 blocks.

Damon Stoudamire, Portlands leading scorer, had only 9 points. His averages have been declining with young PG Sebastian Telfair getting more playing time and Jermaine O'Neal now in the starting lineup. Stoudamire spoke with reporters after the game about that.

Damon: Its not really a problem with me. Any way I can contribute, I will. I understand that Maurice wants to get Sebastian some playing time, because hes our future star Point Guard. Im not worried about averages, just as long as I win and help my team.

Rip Hamilton led Detroit with 22 points and Ben Wallace had 21 points and 15 rebounds. The Blazers stomped on the defending champs, sending a message that they are contenders with O'Neal in the lineup now. Rasheed Wallace also had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Detroit fell to 12-10 while Portland improved to 8-9. They are in the 12th spot in the Western Conference and are still fighting for a playoff spot.

The Blazers host Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets (10-10) this Monday March 7 at the Rose Garden @ 7 PM.

Where's Ha Seung-Jin?
I slip away
I slipped on a little white lie
We've got heads on sticks, You've got ventriloquists
Standing in the shadows at the end of my bed

Blazers trounce over Denver for another Win

Portland 137, Nuggets 111 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal

26 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks

Denver Nuggets - Kenyon Martin

19 points, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks

The Blazers are back at .500 and will look to go over .500 for the first time this season in a few days against the Wizards. Jermaine O'Neal led the Blazers in scoring for the 2nd straight time with 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds plus 4 blocks. Damon Stoudamire had 23 points and 5 assists, hitting 4 Three Pointers. Stoudamire and Telfair both saw about the same amount of minutes. Telfair finished with 19 points and 5 assists. Jermaine O'Neal has been credited with turning this team around. They are now 2-0 since aquiring him. Portland improves to 9-9 while Denver also goes to .500 as they fall to an 11-11 record.

Other notable performances on the Blazers side are Joel Pryzbilla, who had 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and had 3 blocks. Ever since Pryzbilla was inserted into the starting lineup, he has been proving that he can play and has been showing that to his coach and critics. Travis Outlaw saw some more action and finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Outlaw is another person thats been proving himself now that he is getting more playing time. He is a solid backup for Jermaine O'Neal and Darius Miles.

Marcus Camby of Denver had 13 rebounds and 9 points plus 1 block. Portland held Carmelo to shoot 5 of 26 from the field and 16 points. The whole Denver team shot only 34% from the field, not a good idea if your looking for a win. Portland, on the other hand, shot 54% from the field, a big reason why they got this big win over Denver.

The Blazers head out on the road looking to go over .500 for the first time this season as they face Gilbert Areneas and the Washington Wizards (10-10).

O'Neal pulls off 50 point effort as Blazers top Wizards

Portland 124, Wizards 107 | Top Performers

Portland - Jermaine O'Neal

50 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks

Washington - Kwame Brown

25 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists

For the first time this season, the Blazers are back over the .500 mark, thanks in part to Jermaine O'Neal. O'Neal scored 50 points in Thursdays win over Washington on the road. O'Neal went 23 of 34 from the field in his 50 point effort and saw more action than anyone else. Travis Outlaw, O'Neals backup, had a spectacular game scoring 28 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and had 3 blocks, proving that Portland has great depth at the Power Foward position. Damon Stoudamire had only 5 points for Portland, but dished out 11 assists, mostly to Jermaine O'Neal. Instead of Nash to Stoudimire, it should be Stoudamire to O'Neal as these 2 are becoming one of the best duos in the league since O'Neal was aquired. Portland shot 54% from the field. It seems everytime Portland has good FG% they manage to win, so thats something they will probably try to keep up. Washington shot only 40% from the field and only 57% from the free-throw line while Portland shot 82% from the charity stripe.

The Blazers defense has been improving the last few games. They held the Wizards to shoot 40% from the field and held players like Gilbert Areneas today to shoot only 5-22 from the field. They also had 16 blocks today, something they have been improving on since they aquired Jermaine O'Neal.

Here are some other notable performances from both teams:

Darius Miles: 8-12, 17 points, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks
Derek Anderson: 1-2, 2 points, 6 assists, 1 steal
Sebastian Telfair: 1-7, 3 points, 4 assists, 1 rebound
Joel Pryzbilla: 5-6, 11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks

Antwan Jamison: 8-16, 18 points, 17 rebounds, 1 block
Larry Hughes: 11-30, 24 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists
Gilbert Areneas: 5-22, 16 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists

Image

The Blazers have another road game as they face the New Orleans Hornets (11-11). The Blazers are on a 3 game winning streak and have won 4 of their last 5. They are in the 9th playoff spot behind the Clippers.

Man, Jermaine O'Neal's ripping it up for you. A late season surge perhaps? Only comment is that the game scores are kinda high.... But if you're not one to care about realism, then don't worry about it. Just keep doin your thing .
