ESPNEWS-3 POINT SHOOTOUT; Ray Allen of the Seattle SuperSonics went head-to-head vs. Kobe Bryant of the Phoenix Suns. Seattle has been struggling in the first month of the season, going 2-8 vs. the Suns' 6-3. Allen and Rashard Lewis both pace the Sonics with over 20 ppg. Kobe, Marion, and Amare all average over 20 ppg for Phoenix.

The game was a close one until the 3rd quarter. Phoenix outscored Seattle 36-21 in the 3rd, and that pretty much did Seattle in. After that Allen and Co. were not able to break the 10 point advantage, and Phoenix cruised on for their 2nd consecutive victory.

With 2 minutes to go, coach ShivaSquad decided to put in Amare Stoudamire and Kobe Bryant, even though they were up by 15. It was later noted that ShivaSquad's brother's friend's father worked as the waterboy for Seattle, and recently he had threatened ShivaSquad. To get back at him, Amare and Kobe were sent out to embarass the already deflated Sonics team. The decision proved to be extremely stupid, because soon the unthinkable happened. ShivaSquad's brother's friend's father tossed two banana peels onto the court, and sure enough Amare and Kobe went flying. Both players were sent to the locker room, and team doctors gave us the diagnosis. Stoudamire sprained his wrist and will be out for 8 days, and Bryant will be playing with a broken finger. After the game ShivaSquad's brother's friend's father had a word with us.

Suns Summary

Nov. 19@W 83-93|POG-Shawn Marion
Jason Richardson did more then dunk, leading Golden State with 34 points. That meant nothing however, because Dunleavy scored 10 below his average with 14 points. The two stars combined for 48 points, but Marion and Parker combined for 58. The absence of Kobe and Amare Stoudamire gave Phoenix's leading scorer (Marion) to stroke it. He finished with 40, his 3rd 40 point game of the season. The game was never really a contest, the only reason it was reasonably close was because of turnovers on sloppy play by Phoenix's guards. The 2-8 Warriors are no match for the 7-3 Suns. Phoenix goes to 8-3. In the post-game interview ShivaSquad told us why Kobe didn't play. "The doctors told us that he has a broken finger and that it's playable. With Amare already out for at least 8 days, we saw no use in taking a risk. We were also confident that Shawn and Tony could carry us to a victory over a weak Warriors squad. All is going according to plan; Kobe should be at 100% next game, and we walk away with the W."

Phoenix jumped out to an early double digit lead, and kept it going into the half. In the 3rd quarter Kobe, TP, and Marion came out flat and relaxed, opening the door for the Warriors. Not forgetting the Nov. 19 blowout, Mike Dunleavy Jr. got in the zone, jacking up and knocking down 3's from every angle. Golden State outscored Phoenix 29-15 in the 3rd, tieing up the game. That got coach D'Antoni pissed off and he had several words for his star players. Amare Stoudamire was seen screaming in the huddle, specifically to Kobe. Bryant responded in the 4th, scoring 14 and fighting for 3 offensive rebounds. It was a low scoring contest, due to bad shooting by both offenses. Brendan Haywood won the MVP for the game, notching 13 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 2 assists. Phoenix goes to 9-4. GS goes to 3-10. After the game Amare Stoudamire told us what happened in the huddle. "Kobe wasn't playing up to his potential. I just spat a couple cusses in his face, you know. A couple racial slurs here and there. It did the trick."

Over the offseason Joe Johnson left Phoenix to go to the Clippers. JJ proved his worth today, scoring 22 1st half points over Kobe Bryant. Johnson only finished with 26 points, but his 3 point shooting (4-9) gave the Clippers the edge. His 3 with 45 seconds left iced the game for the Clips, giving them a 6-5 record. The injury to Amare Stoudamire really hurt the Suns this game because it forced them to start Damon Jones at SG, Kobe at SF, which meant Marion at PF. Elton Brand was spoonfed the basketball downlow, and easily overpowered Marion. Because of it Phoenix went with a 1-3-1 zone, which led to numerous 3's by Joe Johnson and Kerry Kittles. Overall a disappointing loss for Phoenix, a game they should have won and let slip away. Phoenix goes to 9-5. We interviewed Joe Johnson after the game. "Kobe was fouling me all night, especially after I schooled him in the 1st half. I would have scored 30+ if Kerry didn't steal all my minutes in the 2nd half. Kobe your no longer the best SG in Los Angeles. JJ's in town."

A struggling Utah Jazz team couldn't defend their home court Tuesday. The loss gives them the 3rd worst record in the league at 4-14. On the other hand Phoenix finishes the month of November on a high note, and at #5 on the 1st power rankings at 10-5. This was the 5th game that Phoenix played without Amare, and they are holding up the fort while he's gone. Phoenix is 3-2 without Amare; 7-3 with him. Marion played PF again and led the team in scoring against Utah, finishing with a game high 27 points. Kobe did everything else, scoring 23, grabbing 7 boards, recording 7 assists, and stole the ball 3 times. Another player that goes under the radar for Phoenix has been Damon Jones. Jones scored 18 and knocked down 2 3's. He's averaging over 9 ppg and shooting over 40% from 3 as a 6th man. "I just try to do my part. The credit has to go to the stars. I mean, the starpower on this team is incredible. It shouldn't even be allowed to have guys like Marion, Amare, and Kobe on the same team. The double teams they attract lets me hit the spot up 3 all day. I'm having fun and I think we have something special."

ESPNEWS-Nash vs. Kobe part 2
Ever since the trade, Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant have been rivals. In game 1 Phoenix barely escaped with the win. Nash scored 33 points, Kobe scored 26 points in that encounter. Tonight was a little different. Lamar Odom shined in the spotlight, scoring 29 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Kobe had a season high 36 points, but to no avail. Marion was outplayed by Odom and Parker didn't provide the prolific passing that he usually displays.

The 1st half ended 49-45 for the Lakers. Phoenix came into the game thirsty, because they definitely had a scoring drought. Their first field goal came with 5 minutes left in the quarter. The only thing that kept Phoenix in the game was FT's, and early foul trouble on the Lakers. At half Nash had 12 points and 7 assists. Kobe was playing well for the Lakers, scoring 16 (8-8 FT).

In the 2nd half Lamar came out with determination, taking advantage of the undersized Marion downlow. Marion tried and tried and tried, but nothing worked. Instead he got into foul trouble, picking up 2 quickies. At the quarter break Lakers held on to a slim lead; 71-68. Kobe Bryant let loose in the 4th, playing crazy basketball. He proved once again that he's the go-to-guy on the team in the clutch, scoring 13 in the quarter. After a huge slam with 2 minutes to go, the fans began to boo him incessantly. Instead of speaking, Bryant let his game do the talking. Kobe shut the fans up when he hit a running jumper at the buzzer which forced overtime.

The Lakers consistency in the overtime period proved to be superior to the Suns streaky offense. Lamar Odom and Steve Nash jumped off to a quick 5 point lead and after that it was all cruise control. Tough loss for the Suns. They go to 8-4.

alright guys i need some advice... i was downstairs on my xbox for at least 30 minutes tryin to figure out some deals that will help me in the future. i want to trade kobe for guys that are free agents at the end of the season so that i can drop them. im 7 mil over the cap now, and kobes sal is 15 mil. if i can get players equal to 15 mil that are good enough to lead me to a possible championship this year... and then drop them... then im about 10 mil under and can re-sign amare. here r some deals that ive been thinkin of:

kobe for spree and cassell. i would do this cause the salaries match out perfectly and both spree and sam are FA... but i feel that if i giv up kobe i need more. i mean i could get a t-mac quality guy for kobe... kobe is ranked 2nd hgihest in the game and i deserve more then these 2 scrubs.

the only SG that im interested in is really michael redd... hes a FA as well. 79 ovrl but a good shooter and solid player. on the bucks van horn is also a FA so i can maybe package these 2?

also im gona try to get ben wallace for haywood and parker... wit fillers for salary. if i can pull this off that means that i need to acquire a pg as well. maybe package a sg and pg for kobe?

please jus giv me some help cause i dunno what road to take. i dont need specifics but jus a general idea or opinion of wat i should do. should i not care about player value and jus go for the future (spree and cassell)? or should i go less for the future and more for player value (redd and van horn)... there r also other options which involve me gettin a FA and another player thats good but NOT a FA. this wont help me much for the offseason but at least i get something in return for kobester.

I can see that you are looking to try to free up some cap space (as I think that is a major struggle suffered by all of us, except those charlotte bobcat fans), you have a pretty good team there, and at 8-4 I think you should keep things how they are, because I think you can definitely do well with this current roster and it'd be a shame to pass up.

good points and seems like every1 has love for parker thats nice to see. but the thing is that ive made amare and marion my franchise guys. kobe is my most expensive player at 15 million but he doenst hav an expiring contract... so i wanna trade for ppl who hav expiring contracts. its so annoying wen i dont hav any leway in the offsesaon to make moves. and remember i HAVE to re-sign amare, hes a FA at the end of the season as well. if i got 2 expriing contracts that would put me 8 mil under the cap. as for parker, hes cool but there r other pgs that i like more... we'll see. if u guys like him then ill stick wit him.

ESPNEWS-February 23-The highly anticipated move to the bullpen was completed today, one day before the Trade Deadline. With rumors swirling around Michael Redd, Keith Van Horn, Latrell Sprewell, and Sam Cassell, the final decision swerved right of all these players. All the way to the end of the alphabet, the Washington Wizards. Pending league approval, Larry Hughes and Kwame Brown will be coming to Phoenix in exchange for Kobe Bryant.

Before you give a holler to ShivaSquad's home phone, look at the trade under a microscope. Not only does Phoenix get rid of a disgruntled Kobe Bryant, but they acquire more depth, and an all star caliber SG. Larry Hughes and Kwame Brown are earning efficiency ratings close to Kobe's, according to NBA.com. On the season Hughes is putting up 16.4 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 3.2 APG. Kwame is respectable as well, producing 15.4 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 1.6 APG. Brown and Haywood can split the C, allowing for a powerful bench presence. On the other hand Larry Hughes is a coach's favorite player. Hughes will come into a strong offensive Phoenix team and provide athleticism and defensive assistance. Of course your thinking "But you gave up KOBE, the best SG in the NBA!" Don't forget that GM ShivaSquad is a futuristic coach. He doesn't believe in the Yankee philosophy of "Let's sign 10 overpaid old Sheffield's and worry about next season when it comes." Before the trade Phoenix was 7 mil over the cap. Now they are 4 mil over. Both Hughes and Brown are free agents at the end of the season. Unless one of them shows that they are worth holding on to, that allows the organization to cut them both and will put them 10 million under the cap. In an age where 90% of the teams are over the cap, this will put Phoenix in a very good position in a very good FA class. Overall a fair trade. Washington loses depth but gains a star. Phoenix adds depth, loses a star, but will be re-paid in the offseason with a greater star. Strategic move for Phoenix, and hopefully it will pay off!

ESPNEWS-What could have been a western conference finals will instead be played in the 1st round. Phoenix only finished 2 games back of the Spurs for the 4th spot in the West. This is a fantasy matchup. Tony Parker and Quentin Richardson, playing against their old teams. It's definitely going to be a spirited series, each team fighting for their lives. Parker and Q will have something to prove, and both play big roles in their respective lineups.

The SBC Center is no easy place to play, home to the world champions three years ago. Home court advantage will definitely be a factor in this series, as well as the season series. San Antonio swept Phoenix 3-0 during the regular season, something that will certainly be in the back of each players mind. In fact, the Spurs and Suns played in their last game of the season, in which San Antonio put them away by 15. The matchups will be very important down the stretch. On paper the teams are too close to call, but mentally it's important for Phoenix to steal home court advantage and break the 3 game skid. It should be a great game.

during the season i was doing 8 minute quarters. in the playoffs im going to do 10 minutes because that way i can get more realistic stats without having to run up court all the time. i can play slow and still score.

yea i hav a very good team, they r very fun to play wit. i jus finished the 1st game of the playoffs... a very exciting game. it was my first game wit the new guys kwame and hughes... and they make the game so fun to play cause i can bring such good ppl off the bench. and i kno its only been 1 game but i already luv kwame in this game. hes 70 overall and is so strong and has 81 inside scoring, he has a dunk icon... hes very good and had a strong game for me off the bench. hughes also looks cool wit all his tattoes... i jus wish he was faster. but yea its a flexible team, but the sad thing is that 11 of them are FA after this year......... and its not worth it to sign all the sub par players like nailon, buford, etc.

also its kinda interesting. b4 i got kwame i played fortson at C off the bench... but there r games where he doesnt play at all. hunter hardly plays... haslem is my 2nd string PF he comes in all the time. nailon always comes in right away at my 2nd string sf. buford hardly ever plays unless i need him... and jones comes in for backup sg as well as pg. also... the guys like hunter and buford do play if i hav foul trouble... and my settings make it so guys do get in foul trouble jus like in real life... so its important to hav players to sub in so u dont get 5 foulfs by the 4th quarter

ESPNEWS-Tony Parker and the Phoenix Suns got revenge on the San Antonio Spurs tonight. Brendan Haywood's tip with 2.1 seconds left sent the game into OT. What happened with 5 seconds left in OT could only be labeled as symbolic. Up by 1 point and the shot clock about to hil 0, Tony Parker came around a Kwame Brown pick and shot a wild lean in 3 pointer in the face of former Sun Quentin Richardson. Odds were clearly against Parker, but the shot swished through the net, icing the game. From ex-player to ex-player, Tony Parker made eye contact with Richardson, flicked his jersey up with forefinger and thumb, and mouthed "you wish you were me."

This game is already on the list for ESPN Classics, because it was easily one of the craziest playoff games ever. Not only was the intensity as high as a finals game, but this game will set the tone for the rest of the series.

San Antonio came out doing their thing in the 1st quarter. Defense was key, and the 1st quarter was the lowest scoring quarter in the game. Parker couldn't get it going, nervously missing 3 straight shots. As predicted, Shawn Marion carried the scoring margin in the beginning. He had 8 points after 1. For the Spurs Duncan got them going with 7 1st quarter points. At the break it was a 26-18 Phoenix lead. In the 2nd quarter the Spurs came out more urgent, trying to get the crowd into the game. Damon Jones came in off the bench to score 12 of his 20 points in the quarter. He went 3/5 from downtown in the 2nd, and finished with 5 treys. For the Spurs they always gave up runs when Duncan went to the bench. Noone stepped up until Richardson caught fire. We all know from the 3 point contest that when Q catches fire, he cathes fire . He hit a couple 3s and kept the Spurs in it with 10 2nd quarter points. At the half Phoenix led 56-49. The key players at the half were Shawn Marion and Tim Duncan.

The Spurs came out very strong in the 3rd quarter. Brent Barry and Quentin Richardson didn't let anyone down, combining for 23 points in the quarter. Barry went 5/5 in the quarter, 3 of which were from downtown. No matter who or what was in their face, they just couldn't miss. Behind the play of these two, the Spurs outscored the Suns 35-27 in the quarter. Heading to the final quarter the score was 83-84 in favor of San Antonio. Tony Parker was relentless in the final and most important quarter, scoring 6 and dishing out 4 assists. Going point for point all quarter, Quentin Richardson got 3 of his 37 game points off of a 3 pointer with 2 minutes left. His go-ahead 3 gave the Spurs a 2 point lead. Phoenix took a timeout, and came right back with a well executed play that opened up Shawn Marion at the top of the key. Neither team scored after that for a minute, as they clung in and played tough man to man defense. With 30 seconds left Tim Duncan called for it inside. As you expect any former MVP to do, TD hit the bank shot as smooth as anything you've ever seen. With 13 seconds left Phoenix took its final timeout and set up a play for Tony Parker. Hot shooter Damon Jones was sent in, and Larry Hughes was taken out. With the defense double teaming Damon Jones' perimeter game, Parker took the mid range jumper with 5 seconds to go. The ball hit the rim and bounced out, but Brendan Haywood stuck with it and jumped over Rasho to tip it in. The first tip in clanged out, but instead of panicking Haywood went back up and tipped it again. The ball fell through the net as the buzzer went off. The refs reviewed the play and he got it off in time. The game was sent to OT.

In the OT period neither team scored until the 3 minute mark, in which Brent Barry nailed a 3 pointer. Running it down court before the transition defense could get back led to a quick 3 point response by Tony Parker. A couple possessions later it was a 1 point lead for Phoenix with 29 seconds to go. Instead of fouling coach Poppovich told his players to run out the clock. Parker dribbled the shot clock out, and with 5 seconds left began to make his move in the midst of a lot of traffic. Kwame Brown came up to set the pick, and Parker came around it and leaned in for the 3. Quentin Richardson and Brent Barry were right there in his face but Tony managed to get it off without the block. The shot fell through the net with 4.1 seconds left. The score remained at 125-121 and Phoenix walked away the victors.

Two unlikely heroes on a team of superstars stole home court advantage from the Spurs tonight. Brendan Haywood only had 5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks... but his tip in at the end of regulation saved the game. After the game Parker had a few words for us: "Wow this is such a great feeling to come back here and prove Popp the mistake that he made. Yet I'm also very happy for Quentin, he played great today with 37 points. It's too bad that only one team could win this game we both deserved it. I guess we just played too good today. I'm looking forward to game 2. It's going to be hell, but a fun hell. It's going to be great."
