January 27, 2005, DENVER, CO — The Denver Nuggets have named George Karl head coach, team General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe announced today. Interim Head Coach Michael Cooper will resume his previous role as assistant coach.
“We are very excited to be adding a coach of George’s stature to our organization,” said Vandeweghe. “He has won everywhere he has been and his track record speaks for itself.

“We also want to commend Michael for the job he did under difficult circumstances.”

Karl, the 13th winningest coach in NBA history, has compiled a career record of 708-499 (.587) in 16 years as an NBA head coach. He began his NBA head coaching career with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 1984-86. He also coached in Golden State (1986-88), Seattle (1991-98) and Milwaukee (1998-03).

I don't know why, but I can see Big George criticizing Kenyon and Carmello then resigning.

, same here....just like he did with Ray and Co.

I think Cooper isnt ready yet...he hasnt got the level of confidence to coach a struggling team because of his inexperience...I mean he did coach a very strong outfit in the WNBA and not one that was struggling. Unfortunately for him he couldnt become the next Lawrence Frank phenomenom....

oh well hopefully the Nuggets can start racking up some wins and make a last minute hussle towards the No.8 seed in the West.

He's still on board as an assistant.

Karl has yet to win an NBA championship as a coach, but his years in Seattle were still pretty successful with a few 60 win seasons (including a franchise record in 1996 that still stands) and a Finals appearance. The Nuggets have talent and with Karl at the helm, they might be able to salvage this season.

maybe he can turn Kmart into the next Reign man. hopefully george talks some sense into andre miller or gives the spot to boykins. i think this might be the turn around point for the nuggets Karl is a great coach. the only reason it didnt work out in milwaukee was the players didnt even get along with each other and he was in a no win situation. 8-)

Or maybe he'll run them into the ground for what the 8th seeded Nuggets did to his 1st seeded Sonics in the first round of the playoffs. (i cant remember which year, but deke was still there)
