He's since returned; he just came back to life without explanation at the end of the season six finale.

I still consider The Simpsons to be the better show, but it has lost a bit of steam the last few seasons. My main gripe is that they're covering old ground and even had a few episodes in Season 15 that used very similar plots, though not always as the "A" story.

In contrast, I feel that South Park is currently at the top of its game. I was watching some early episodes that were being re-run on Foxtel, and it's amazing to see how far it has come. In the beginning, it was simply juvenile humour with more of a cult feel. These days, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are being a little more clever with their plots. There's still that immature, offensive-for-the-sake-of-being-offensive element, but they're throwing in more social commentary and satire these days. It's still very exaggerated and their point of view is argued through hyperbole, but it works for the spirit of the show.

I've really only developed an appreciation for Futurama in the past couple of years, as it was absent from free to air for a long time. I never saw Family Guy when it was only FTA here, but now that I've got Foxtel I get to see both fairly regularly. I consider both to be great shows and they rank among my favourites, but I still rank the Simpsons above them due to its longevity and the strength of the writing during the classic era.

Family Guy is a fantastic show, Stewie is possibly the 3rd best comedy cartoon character ever made behind Homer and Cartman (Y)

Sat Jan 08, 2005 7:46 pm

I love Stewie, he is better than Cartman IMO

Was Kobe on a South Park episode???

Sun Jan 09, 2005 1:40 pm

Yeah, where all the rich people moved to South Park... they spent the whole episode trying to work out how to get rid of rich people, completely ignoring the fact that they were all black. The ending of that was hilarious, Jimbo (I think) goes 'Thank God we got rid of all those damn nig..." and it cut out.

Eeexactly! That's what I found to be great about the recent South Park episodes. Couldn't have said it better myself (y)

i heard from another friend that my roommate (i don't like his guts) saw this episode and said something like "woohoo, i'm not the only one!!" (he's a racist cunt) :?

Sun Jan 09, 2005 5:04 pm

Any time they refer to racists they always completely take the piss out of them. Like the Ku Klux Klan "HOT SHOWER HOT SHOWER"

Sun Jan 09, 2005 6:27 pm

Hmm, Simpsons now? or older?

New Simpsons < South Park
Old Simpsons > South Park

Meh i'll vote for South Park to even the poll up. :P

I think the episode when butters got that ninja-star stuck in his eye was a turning point for the worse, although the scene when Cartman thinks he's invisible was the funnies thing I've seen in a long time. (Y)

You serious? South Park nowadays is awesome. :D I love the bluntness and political incorrectedness of it. It's so wrong and offensive, that it's funny.

Andrew, family guy IS shown on FTA. (Y) 11:30 am channel 7, weekdays.

agreed there. the more recent episodes of the simpsons aren't up to par as the old ones or to south park & family guy

Mon Jan 10, 2005 5:05 pm

I've been watching The Simpsons for years now, but South Park, I only saw it a few months ago.
The vulgarity makes it a different animated series, but The Simpsons are part of pop culture man...
BTW, Family Guy cracks me up!! (Y)
