LAKERS ESCAPE TOYOTA CENTER WITH W

Los Angeles Lakers 120 @ Houston Rockets 112

Los Angeles, Nov 14 - The Los Angeles Lakers have realised they need a point guard. Tyronn Lue carved up the squad from Los Angeles and scored a career high 32 points, including 5 three point shots against helpless Luke Walton on 50% shooting. But the Lakers survived a Rockets comback led by Lue and scored the last 8 points of the game to win.

At halftime, the Lakers led by 14 and then stretched that lead to 21 by the mark of 8:28 left in the third quarter. However, at the third quarter's end, the Lakers were only up 86-83 courtesy of Tyronn Lue and Yao Ming but also to Vlade Divac's exit with 10:12 left. Divac later returned to the game with a bandaged ankle.

Yao Ming was a silent contributor with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks for the Rockets. The Lakers had no answer for Yao as he scored effortlessly and the only way the team could win was to outscore Yao's team. Juwan Howard also had 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Lakers' star guard Kobe Bryant had another phenominal night creating opportunities for his teammates while shutting down rival Tracy Mcgrady. Kobe had 14 first half assists on route to a 26 points, 5 rebounds, 17 assists and 3 steal performance while keeping Mcgrady to a lowly 5 for 15 from the field and 29 minutes of game time.

"Kobe got me into a lot of great positions to score tonight," Euro center Vlade Divac said. Divac scored 16 points and 13 rebounds on 8 for 12 shooting. Brian Grant had a great night filling in for the temporary injured Divac perfectly by notching up 24 points (11-17 FG) and 14 rebounds and Lamar Oom had 22 points on 10 for 13 shooting.

The start of the fourth quarter helped build up to a less than dramatic conclusion to the game, unless you were a Laker's fan. The lead kept changing until 2:06 left in the game when Lakers backup Tierrie Brown hit two free throws to tie the game at 108. Jumaine Jones then hit a layup on the fast break with 1:47 to put the Lakers up by 2. Lamar Odom then dunked at the other end with 1:14 remaing and the Lakers were up 112-108. Yao Ming then hit 2 free throws and Chris Mihm hit one free throw, with 56.4 left the Lakers were up 113-110. Kobe Bryant then came back to life and did a 360 degree slam, then scored 2 free throws. With 36.4 left, Chris Mihm hit another free throw to keep the Lakers up 118-110. And as the crowd roared for Kobe and Mcgrady to have one more showdown, Mcgrady missed a jumper and Bryant then came back down to go one-on-one to dunk over him with time expiring.

"I was feeling it, getting the ball up court and passing down low. And then at the end shooting the ball- I was real confident," Bryant said. Coach Rudy Tomjanovic also stated, "I was confident in Kobe having the ball because he was getting it done all over the floor!"

After the game, Tracy Mcgrady was asked about his opinion on Kobe Bryant being the man for the Lakers. "He will do well. He's got the skills and a good supporting cast but soon he will figure that he is lacking support."

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

NOTES: The Rockets kept things close by shooting much more threes... Los Angeles also held a rebounding edge with 50-39... The Lakers made 34 assists... Kobe Bryant has played so well that legend Michael Jordan has bought tickets to Bryant's games at STAPLES center for non-announced games, Kobe said about this, "It's an honour to know MJ will be in the crowd for a few games!"....

well, I know you're sticking with a 56-k friendly formula, but those code boxes with the boxscores are hideous looking, not to mention space-consuming....i might consider going with a screenshot of the boxscores instead...you'll still be fairly 56-k friendly. just a suggestion

you could always just leave only the latest boxscore jpg up, and delete it after you play a new game :?: It really is ok if you choose to not use the screenie for the boxscore, maybe it's just me that finds the code box kind of ugly. *shrug*

anyway, good luck, keep rollin!

LAKERS BEAT CROSSTOWN RIVALS

Los Angeles Clippers 107 @ Los Angeles Lakers 114

Image
ABOVE: Bryant takes it to the hole

Los Angeles, Nov 18 - Kobe Bryant had a triple double as he led his Lakers team to a 7 point win over cross locker room rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers. Bryant capped an amazing three game individual stretch with 44 points (14-27 FG, 15-20 FT), 10 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals.

The Lakers were able to fend off the Clipper's Elton Brand (25 points) who was unstoppable inside and Kerry Kittles (23 points) and Corey Maggette (20 points) who kept hitting jumpshots. Bryant recieved modest contributions from both of his big men, Vlade Divac had 14 points and 16 rebounds while Brian Grant made up for his defensive lapses with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

The Clippers took an early lead with a 10-0 run in the middle of the first period and Kobe picked up two early fouls. Kerry Kittles scored 12 points in the first quarter and the Clippers took a 24-15 lead. The second quarter started how the first ended and the Clippers went on another 11-0 spurt.

However, Kobe Bryant crashed the party as he came back on court to score 16 second quarter points and played stellar defence to bring his team back into the contest. He also included a block on Shaun Livingston midway through which had the crowd jeering at the Clipper's bench.

Elton Brand was doing his damage quietly and by the half had scored 14 points as the Clippers took a 49-45 lead at the half. Laker's coach Rudy Tomjanovic then decided to try and get a double team on Brand. This didn't work as Brand came back out to score three straight baskets and the Lakers sagged back into a zone.

The Lakers then went on another run fuelled by Vlade and Chris Mihm while Kobe picked up his tenth assist and 30th point with 6:02 and 5:45 left respectively. Lamar odom who had 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists just couldn't get involved in the offence but did well to dunk on the fast break and keep the Lakers ahead by 4 before the break for thrid quarter time.

Both teams came out of the locker room to keep the game tight. The Lakers finally found a way to make Elton Brand miss but Corey Maggette stepped up and scored 8 points in a 4 minute stretch. With 3:28 left in the game and the Clippers leading by 4, Kobe Bryant once again took his game to a new level.

Luke Walton stole the ball at midcourt and fed Bryant who went up and under and did a reverse slam dunk. Kobe then stole the ball on the inbounds and stabilised his offence, drove in and dished off to Brian Grant who converted it. He then forced Shaun Livingston into a rushed shot, grabbed his 10th rebound of the game and ran the ball up to the other end, run down the clock and beat a Clippers double team to the hoop. And with 1:17 left in the game the Lakers were up by 2, 104-102, Bryant got the ball on the right side extended elbow and launched a three which left the STAPLES center crowd chanting, 'Kobe!'

The Clippers did get back with 56.4 seconds left after Corey Maggette scored a three point shot but Bryant sunk 8 of his 12 fourth quarter free throws in the last minute of regulation.

"Kobe Bryant played so well," Corey Maggete of the Clippers said, "We've been working out together over the Summer and now I know for sure he has gotten a lot better." Lakers owner Jerry Buss also commented on Bryant, "Kobe is the cornerstone of our future in the NBA and he is also the cornerstone of the NBA. He makes a lot of money for this elague because of his talent."

NOTES: GM Will Sit yesterday recieved an e-mail from Laker's owner Jerry Buss praising his team's success as they now have a 6-3 record... This is Bryant's third game where he's had at least 25 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 2 steals... Kobe Bryant jerseys have sold out in the past week, a record for the NBA's merchandise sector... The Lakers are rumoured to be considering an offer for Orlando's Jameer Nelson or Phoenix's Yuba Tabuse...

JASON KIDD's MVP CLAIM

Image
JASON KIDD WITH THE NO-LOOK PASS

The Summer of 2004 led the Nets to offload two of its starters. Kenyon Martin went to Denver while Kerry Kittles moved to Los Angeles- the Clippers. And both of them went for nothing. The Nets were heavily critisized for their moves and not long after the trade, star player Jason Kidd was starting to feel bad about the situation.

But for anyone who believes the Nets made the wrong decision, you are all right. The thing that everyone is wrong about is that the Nets are still contenders. With the return of Alonzo Mouning and Richard Jefferson's improved game, the nets are still good enough to make some noise.

But the real guy who has made the best of situations is, surprise, surprise- Jason Kidd. The guy whom used to make everyone better has taken his game to a new level and this season it looks like he has a good chance at that MVP hardware.

He is averaging 27.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 8.3 apg and 1.78 spg.

What's more? The Nets are currently 7.2, same as Detroit!

Injury Report:

Shooting Guard Cuttino Mobley of the Orlando Magic will be out for 10 days suffering from neck spasms. It is not the ideal situation for the Magic as Steve Francis has only just recovered from injury and returned to the team.

Western Conference giant Tim Duncan suffered a broken finger against the Toronto Raptors during the third quarter of the game. This led to Toronto making a run which finished off with the Spurs in an 80-100 loss. The team has announced he will be out for 2 weeks.

Division Standings:

Pacific

1. Lakers (7-3) On a three game winning streak and 6-2 against West teams
2. Kings (7-3) Have won games against weak teams
3. Clippers (6-5) Brand’s averages of 26 and 10 and Magette’s 26 and 8 have these guys in the mix
4. Golden State (5-5) J Rich is on 23, 8 and 3 but his effect on the team hasn’t shown
5. Suns (3-7) It’s a surprise to see them this low, but every division needs a loser

Northwest

1. Minnesota (6-2) Four guys on 20 ppg and no one’s complaining
2. Denver (6-3) This young team has got so much potential and their performance proves it
3. Portland (5-4) Low scoring team but great defence
4. Sonics (6-5) Lead division in scoring and turnovers
5. Jazz (5-5) They’re at 50% and are last?!

Southwest

1. Dallas (7-3) Dirk Nowitzki is carrying this team without Steve Nash
2. Spurs (7-3) Defence wins rings… Brent Barry completes the team
3. Hornets (5-3) So far, so good in their first season part of the West
4. Houston (5-7) The Yao/Mcgrady duo just hasn’t shown up
5. Memphis (3-7) The most improved team last year is back where they were two years ago

Atlantic

1. Nets (7-2) Jason Kidd for MVP with 27.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 8.3 apg and 1.8 spg
2. Celtics (5-3) Payton has been the guy the Celtics have needed in a long time with 20, 6 and 5
3. Raptors (5-6) Vince Carter is still praying he gets traded
4. Knicks (3-5) The management needs to find shots for everyone
5. 76ers (1-9) 9 game losing streak and still counting

Central

1. Detroit (7-2) Defending champs are awesome but Darko still hasn’t done anything
2. Pacers (7-3) This team is playing great without Stephen Jackson- how will they fare with him?
3. Bucks (4-4) Back to back blowouts, 111-63 against Portland and 128-87 against Kings
4. Cavs (3-6) Lost to the Bobcats, not once but twice- what do I say?
5. Bulls (2-5) Gordon is in the hunt for ROY with 22, 5 and 4

Southeast

1. Miami (5-6) Shaq in black is working with 25 ppg, 13 rpg and 2 bpg but where is his support?
2. Atlanta (3-6) How weak is this division?
3. Orlando (3-6) Injuries have Magic far from their full potential. Who’s next to go down- Grant Hill?
4. Bobacats (2-7) Okafor is the man- 19 ppg, 9 rpg, 1.2 spg and 2 bpg and Chicago is the team- keeping Charlotte away from last for now…
5. Washington (2-7) Kwame Brown is playing better than before but not overly great with 15 ppg, 9 rpg on 57% FG

LAKERS APPEAL TO PUBLIC

Image
ABOVE: DARKO MILICIC'S RANGE HAS CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF THE LAKERS

Los Angeles, Nov 20 - General Manager Will Sit has released a statement appealing to the public and Lakers fans to voice their opion on an issue within the club. The release read:

'As all of the fans of our team knows, we have a problem with our rotation. We have too many small forwads/shooting guards and will need to offload someone. We would like you, the public, to voice your opinons in the issue on who the team should try and acquire.'

The Lakers have looked into the issue of trading for Pistons forward Darko Milicic who was last year's second overall draft selection. The Pistons have already returned a call to the Lakers saying that they would be willing to trade Darko and fellow Euro guard Carlos Delfino for Lakers forwards Devean George and Brian Cook.

The Lakers have also recieved replies from the orlando Magic agreeing to trading former college player of the year Jameer Nelson for forward Jumaine Jones.

The Los Angeles Lakers can be contaceted via private messaging to Sit or by sending a notice to the Laker's Head Office.

NBA POWER RANKINGS

This week sees Minnesota and San Antonio take the top two spots on the table with the Kidd-steered New Jersey one spot behind. The surprise team would be the Clippers at 7, no one saw them getting that high. Somehow, Phoenix and Houston are down in the bottom half with Philadelphia coming last with a record of 1-9.

Check out the Power Rankings below!

'BABY SHAQ' RUINS KOBE'S NIGHT

Chicago Bulls 109 @ Los Angeles Lakers 94

Los Angeles, Nov 22 - Kobe Bryant and the Lakers wore their old school jerseys when the Chicago Bulls in MJ-era kits showed up to STAPLES center last night. Michael Jordan was in the crowd after promising to see a few games during the season in between his business campaigning and Bryant didn't want to dissapoint.

Before the game, Kobe caught a glimpse of his 'Airness' in the crowd and told a sideline reporter, "Tonight is a good night! I can feel it." But to Bryant's dismay, Eddy Curry- 'Baby Shaq' ruined the night with a perfect inside scoring game which destroyed the Lakers early.

Eddy Curry scored 37 points on 16 for 17 shooting and dominated the inside while fellow big man, Tyson Chandler set a career high by blocking 8 shots. Kirk Hinrich also had 20 points and 5 assists. Kobe Bryant fouled out of the game with 32 points but recieved little help from his teammates and shot horribly from the field. Vlade Divac had 14 and 12 and was the next best Laker for the game.

The Lakers 'exploded' from the start with Lamar Odom picking up his second personal after 3 minutes of game time and with 7 minutes remaing in the first, Kobe Bryant picked up his second also. Both players went to the bench and Chcago took advantage of the absence of the Laker's two stars by going on a 16-0 run. The Bulls ended the first quarter up 35-17.

The second quarter was much more evenly played but the Lakers just couldn't find a way to stop Eddy Curry who scored 10 of his 12 first half points during the time. Vlade Divac tried hard to counter Curry's offensive production and managed to fight and win enough rebounds to prevent Curry from causing any more damage.

Rudy Tomjanovic told ESPN at the half, "We're just rushing too many shots tonight. Kobe is playing a little too excitedly."

The Lakers came out more 'disciplined' and started to stablilize the offence and playing harder defence. With 8 minutes left in the third period and 24 points down, the Kobe Bryant started their scoring run. Along with Luke Walton, the Lakers went on a 20-2 scoring run which started with Lamar Odom layup and ended with a Lamar Odom layup.

The game's atmosphere started to change as the Lakers got within single figures midway through the third. A Kobe dunk with 6:24 cut the lead to 11. And a Kobe layup cut it to 9 with 5:53 remaining. Kobe Bryant, on fire, then came off a Divac screen to score a wide open three and the score was 68-62. Luke Walton then stole the ball and fed Bryant for the dunk and Lamar Odom's layup had the lead at 2 with 4:00 lef ton the clock. Unfortunately, this is where the game ended for Los Angeles. Eddy Curry scored two more baskets in the paint and a frustrated Kobe Bryant missed a dunk. Luol Deng hit a halfway shot at the buzzer while the STAPLES crowd booed the hometeam.

The lead was then stretched to 89-71 after a Bulls 12-2 run and the Lakers lost all hope of winning.

"We were so close tonight," Luke Walton who had 2 points, 4 reobunds, 4 assists and 4 steals said, "We could have beaten them. Kudos to Eddy Curry who had a monster effort!"

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

NOTES: Kobe Bryant heard more insults about his play after shooting 13/16 and having commited 9 turnovers... Michael Jordan certainly wasn't impressed- he walked out just before Kobe Bryant's 19 point third quarter... Lamar Odom is voicing some frustration about his current place on thsi Lakers team saying, "Our (Kobe and his) games are similar. I can't play second fiddle anymore. Not only is it about Kobe but it's about LA- I can't trust myself here!"...

Basically, I think Devean Geroge is the only SF out of all of the Small Forwards who would actually have the slightest chance of being traded. So I dont think i will do Jumaine for Jameer

Oh yeah... asking if u guys reakon i should brring back KArl Malone in the NBA Live December becuase it has been reported he may suit up in a month... problem being we dont know for which team

Yeah well... I dont know why but i never shoot with odom unless hes open... which is bad

And our team was losing bad and Kobe was so good in the 3rd... another selfish night for Kobe... but he did take 40+ shots back in 02-03...

George is good player... it looks like my roster aint changing

And Divac and Grant have been great for me.. i need to split minutes between all three

Next game starters (vs. Sactown) though:

C: Divac
PF: Odom
SF: Kobe
SG: George
PG: Walton

Trades for Jones.

Juan Dixon, Marcus Banks, Frank Williams or Troy Bell.

Anyone of these is better than having to play Luke Walton at point!

Look into it.

Good luck vs Kings!!

LAKERS ROUNDUP

yahoo.com

Image

The Lakers suffered an overtime loss to the 4-4 Milwaukee Bucks and dropped to 7-5. Kobe Bryant fouled out in the fourth and Caron Butler came off the bench to keepo the team's hopes of winning alive by scoring 9 points in the final period. Both teams kept it tight until the end when Chutky Atkins turned the ball over and Michael Redd miss a jumper at the buzzer.

The extra period was even more exciting with the bucks jumping to a six point lead. Kareem Rush, who cored 23 points off the bench hit back-to-back threes to get the Lakers within 2 with 45.6 left. The lakers fouled TJ Ford who scored one of his free throws but Rush missed a three with 13 seconds left in the game.

ABOVE: LAST TIME THEY MET, SHAQ WAS IN LA AND VLADE WAS WITH WEBBER

The Los Angeles Lakers (7-5) take on the Sacramento Kings (8-3) with Vlade on their side and Shaq out East. The Lakers, everyone's team to talk about, is causing headlines with Kobe Bryant's indivdual, I repeat- Individual game and the team's non-existent winningness.

Los Angeles have lost two straight, an blowout against Chicago and an upset against Milwaukee. Rudy Tomjanovic has blamed lack of team co-hesion and asking for more time to prepare his team. Yesterday he said, "I've stressed this long enough. We have got new players and a new management and a new coaching staff. We've only been around for two to three months so don't expect any miracles!" Kobe Bryant also commented on the team's play. "I am a little dissapointed but our team is young and there is a lot to improve on!"

The Sacramento Kings who have just come off a Houston 110-92 win and 128-87 win over Milwaukee are on fire despite missing defensive guard Doug Christie. They are on a 4 game winning strreak and hope to extend it against Los Angeles.

After the Sacramento game Chris Webber said, "I'm looking forward to going to LA. Vlade will be there and Kobe will be there without Shaq. It will be a good game!" Peja Stojakavic who is still angry with the kings management for not dealing him said, "I want to look at the Lakers team and see my friend (Divac). It is a destination I might want to go in my career to play for."

Last season, the Lakers and the Kings had a very heated rivalry going on but ever since Shaq's departure, all of the Laker's past rivals don't care anymore. Kareem Rush said, "This game is about respect. We want to win because we feel they (other teams) don't think we're worthy to compete against."

Strong words from a young player. But somewhere in that speech is a truth. Problem is that the Lakers need to win to exploit that truth.

PROJECTED LINEUPS

NOTES: Forward Devean George has been put onto the trading block by the Lakers who are shopping for a point guard... Lamar Odom will sit the game against the Kings due to the flu however if he feels like it, he could be a gametime decision... Kareem Rush has recieved rave reviews from General Manager Will Sit after scoring 23 points against the Milwaukee Bucks and Sit has forced Rudy T to start Rush...

SCOUTING AND TRADIN BLOCK REPORT

Scouting:

I have done some scouting in Asia and Afria and also looked at the projected top 5 rookies for next season. I have ssen this guy, a 7'2" PF who has good development and is 19. Also there is a 5'10" PG with excellent development projected in the 2nd round. I've seen an 18 year old PG who is 6'7" and is projected in the mid 12t round. So these are guys I will look at more closely.

I will write a more detailed report when I figure out what kind of a player I want and start looking at the ratings.

Trading Block

Gone looking around but still can't get anyone to trade with me.

I've tried to send Devean Geroge (66) to 2-9 Washington for Juan Dixon (57) + Draft pick AND others to fill up slarays and got rejected.

Also tried to do Devean Geroge (66) for Jason Williams (71) which of course failed. I hoped they needed Geroge to start but that wasn't the case.

I will keep looking around and hopefully someone will want Mr George.

Solid update Sit!!

It was a tough OT loss even tho you had monster games from Kobe and kareem Rush!!

Nice to see that Rush has now made it into the lineup, but still Waltons playing point :? Whats up with Chucky??

I think you should be able to get Dixon for Geroge the rating weight in for the wizards but not sure on the money side of it.

I like what you did with the schedule (Y) but theres afew key games that your not playing there... Shaq back in LA Dec 25th.... you might want to think about changing that.

Good luck with the kings!!

Great Dynasty Sit i love it!!

Problem is salaries but i will still try and do:

Etan Thomas + Juan Dixom + 1st round pick FOR Devean Geroge + Brian Cook...

I dont think real Lakers would trade Cook but either deal Cook or Slava and Slava is expiring at the end of the year
