Live 2005 for pc is NOT bad

Fri Oct 29, 2004 9:35 am

i had the game since its release day, and i have to say im impressed.

the graphics are great. there is a weird small 'halo' around the players though, but overall i think the presentation and animations are great.

the gameplay is much better than it's been. even without messing with the sliders i've had some realistic scores/stats. after changing the game speed (slow it down) and changing a couple more sliders i've been getting very good results. the only thing is, the computer doesn't get many assists. on 23 fieldgoals they get like 6-10 assists. not sure if that has something to do with my defense, or their offense or if it's a bug in the AI.

the sound is the same as before. the commentaries aren't that great, but they never were. so im not disappointed here. i usually listen to music anyways.

the menus are good, except for some reason they're 640x480 resolution and you cn't use the keyboard in them. oh well no biggie for me.

i play the game on my laptop with a dual action logitech gamepad.
my laptop is:
p4 3.0 ht
512 ram
40 gig hd 4200rpm
128 meg dedicated radeon 9600

When you go up for a dunk, Does the rim make that AWEFUL racket, Like someone falling on top of a bin still???

Are you talking about the dunk sound from 04? I doubt it from the videos I've seen, but I personally liked that sound. It was fun dunking with Shaq and watching 4 guys at least 2 feet away fall to the ground. It's like a shockwave.

The "rocket" sound is removed this year. I haven't heard it once.

One thing that annoys me in NBA Live 2005 is when you have a big man (Yao for example) or a post-up player who is 2 feet away from the basket, he will throw a wild layup instead of just jamming the ball in the rim. The layup is sometimes very unaccurate.

Could that be fixed with more dunk vs layup frequency?

It sounds just like a regular rim breaking away and releasing now
Thats the only way i know how to put it

With the 3 point contest, 3 point head to head challenge, dunk contest, dunk head to head, all star, sophmore v freshman, and all the play modes - this is the most complete sports game I've ever had.

I played a game online today - wow. Neither player could just go to the basket. It was a nice game - outside and inside play - and runs by both sides.

In an earlier game I dunked with Shaq, and the rim remained bent down until after the next time out.

Player lock works better than it ever has. It was completely broken in '04. Nobody shot or passed to the controlled player. In '05 I just finished a game in a new dynasty with Kobe on the Bulls. While I led with 24 points in a loss, Curry had 16 points and 9 rebounds - computer players rebounding in a player lock game never happened in earlier versions. Chandler had seven points. Gordon took my long pass all the way to the hoop on a fast break layup. Davis took a rebound off my missed shot and threw it up, missed, tipped it, got the rebound and was fouled on the put back.

This is by far the best Live.

i agree that this is the most complete, and perhaps best, game out there

i have to say though there is a good number of missed layups, but that is due to the slider settings..
