This is what I always believed about minimum sys req's. If you have the minimum requirements, your computer can RUN the game. The real unanswered question is, is the game actually PLAYABLE? Don't go for minimum system requirements.

Yea its a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128mb card.... but yea offcourse if I wanna run everything perfect I should get the Athlon 64 like you said, I dont spend a lot of time on my computer so when I bought my computer parts all I wanted is a decent combination of hardware that would run my games equally as my PS2, my system specs double all aspects of my PS2 but they run games twice as slow......

You can't really compare that way. Usually console games run much better than the same game on PC simply because the developers can write directly to the xbox/ps2's hardware specs since they're set. Although the hardware available on the PC is at least 3 generations ahead of what's offered by even the xbox (the most advanced console), many games can't run as smooth simply because of the lack of optimization for such varying setups. Therefore, raw brute strength of new technology sometimes cannot make up for the difference that can be brought from writing to hardware specs that are 'set in stone'. I'm actually very impressed with what the xbox can churn out with a 700mhz cpu and a geforce3/4 hybrid. But make no mistake about it, if it were possible to write software solely to the hardware of an Athlon64 and a Geforce6800ultra you'd see some pretty amazing stuff that would destroy any console on the market.

Yeah you should never look at system requirements, because that's just the bare minimum needed to get the game running usually. What you should be looking at is recommended system because that's normally what's needed to get the game running decently. Even then you should aim for a system above that.

Adon wrote:now I gotta question about a regular 128mb graphics card such as mine, what FrameRate should a 128mb card run on a normal game like EA sports titles?? this question refers to users who have 128mb graphic cards... so if yall got answers.. lemme know

The amount of memory on a graphics card is really a poor way to judge how smooth a game will play. It's not the major determining factor as of right now. Rather stuff like the # of pixel pipelines (4 vs 8, 8 vs 12, 12 vs 16), the memory bandwidth (128-bit vs 256-bit), and the # of shader processors, the clock speed of the GPU and memory, and a variety of other aspects are often many times more important. For example, a Geforce 6600GT with 128MB of memory is faster than a 9800pro with 256MB of memory due to these other factors and also because of the new design of the chip.
To answer your question, with a Geforce5200 graphics card I'm not at all surprised by your results because the GPU is not that good. I also think your 1.4Ghz processor is a bottleneck.

The public should be getting system requirements so we can run our game the way its meant to run, and not the minimum requirements needed to BARELY play your game, cuz nobody really wants to buy a game that plays like crap on your comp...
right?

I agree with you, but you have to understand everyone's perception of smoothness is different. A lot of ppl don't care if the game runs @ 30fps and I believe that pertains to a large population of the people here with Geforce4mx's (no offense ppl) beause they seem quite content with it but i'm sure if they run fraps they aren't getting much higher than 30fps @ max details @ 1024x768. I'm quite picky when it comes to this and if it runs @ 30fps it looks like shit to me. I agree with you that 70-80 is the goal.

wow thats a lotta useful info, thankz a lot.....for explaining things a bit more clearly....games like Rome Total War, and solid sports games like Live and NHL keep me interested in computer gaming so 'll probably have to get a better computer soon, because for some reason I just cant stand playing Live 05 on my PS2, its almost robotic to me....PC versions give it a lot more life to the game, for me anyways.....heh
well its all good, I still got my GTA San Andreas and Gran Turismo 4 to keep me busy for a while... :D
thankz a lot guyz
