Sorted, it's the alpha channel and the color key slice, if anyone cares

Although further testing is proving annoying as I can't seem to get the camo effect every time!?
And not sure how the colours map to each shirt or top from the key slice
I'll keep trying

Happy with this tho haven't quite narrowed down the key colour mapping.
Have got my fans to wear different coloured hoodies\tees\hats etc

Thanks. But I have manged to mod the crowd as can be seen in the pic. I was trying to help people who might like to know about how the alpha colours the crowd here.


Does anyone know the format of the crowd key file? I can't find the correct DDS type that is used.

Ok, I've managed a fudge.
If any one is interested:
I opened an existing color slice in hex editor
saved my new one as RGB 4bpp no alpha dds
and also opened that in the editor, then copied the color area from line 80-470 and pated over the first one.
That now seems to work.

Found a cleaner solution.
The crowd_key_color_slice.dds needs to be saved as A8B8G8R8 and paint.net will save in this format.

Ok, new issue!
I am modding the crowds to use the alpha\colour overlays to give more variety and am currently on the Knicks.
The crowd shows black when I use my modded crowd_014.iff.
But weirder still, if I rename the iff to other teams (tested as 003 and _default) it works fine.
Anyone have any ideas?
The crowd mod I downloaded a while ago works fine.
Also, I did have a modded court which I thought might be the issue but I get the same when I remove the s and f court files.

This is making even less sense. I've moved all mods out of the folder except for crowd_014.iff and crowd_015.iff.
If I have my Knicks mod named crowd_014 as it should be, the crowd is completely black.
If I simply rename the files the other way round, the Lakers fans will happily wear Knicks stuff and vice versa!!!! Both at Staples and The Garden.

Again, I have found the solution (at least for now)
If anyone has similar issues, I fixed this by downloading the latest version of the Hook tool. Must have had an older one.

for those that look, I have been editing the crowds to use the overlay\alphas to give a much wider range of fan colors.
However, I have used a pre-existing mod as a base (TwisTs) and am asking what is the etiquette if I want to release it (Not sure if anyone bar me cares?)?
I guess I should ask for permission from the original modder?

Does anyone know a good place to get pics of the jerseys - esp the name\numbers?
The NBA store has started using 3/4 rotated pics which makes it rubbish for copying.

I just use a Google image search and I "borrow" logos and numbers. Making exact replicas for fan jerseys is harder than player jerseys because you can't view the fan in 3D. At least I don't know if you can view fans in 3D. I just make sure the front looks good. Many free font sites have team fonts available to make numbers.

Cheers, that's what I have done but in the past the shirts etc were straight on making it much easier.
I just hate making the curved names. FYI, most of the numbers are extractable from the game (at least the ones I use).
