Roster Issues (Spreadsheet copy/paste) Microtransactions, gameplay issues, etc

Thu Oct 01, 2020 2:28 am

Hi all,

Very important items to discuss.

I made this video yesterday, and the thread on Twitter and Reddit has gained a lot of traction, to the point where 2K themselves took notice and have been going in and doing silent patches to the official roster based on the screenshots I shared.

SwaggyPLino and I recorded episode 2 of Virtual Hoop Dreams, and I discussed some of the reasons I made the thread, why I tagged Mike Wang, Mike Stauffer, Da_Czar, and EASPORTS is guilty of neglecting rosters in the past.

All the issues I mentioned discussing the rosters is not only completely disrespectful to the past/present players and teams, but also dramatically impacts the gameplay experience. As I stated in the video and on the threads, I am showing less than 1% of the roster issues. Honestly, that video could have been 10 hours long and I wouldn't have even scratched the surface.

Either way, I think we need to draw more attention to these issues and speak up on items that bother us. If I had not created that thread, and it had not made noise, nothing would have been done. Make your voice heard.

Your posts on twitter and reddit made noise, but unfortunately most of the 2K community already moved on other topics after the update.
Thats also explains why 2K is so lazy, most of the people play MyPlayer (fucking) modes and dont give a shit about real NBA and simulation.

But you've pointed out all the issues about 2K laziness, about their "community manager" s lying strategy after silent updates, and the big gap between their communication (hey simnation  ) and the reality of the realism in their gameS for yearS.

You dont mention it (i think) but we could see from your screens that MANY MANY faces are also the same since 2k16 (some of them have been distorted after conversion), despite they hired R4zor.

Razor has made a great contribution, unfortunately all signs point to him not being utilized properly.

I made the video about the thread in the hope of creating more conversation around the topics at hand. Let's see what happens.

We saw his contributions the first year, he fixed few retro CFs.
But since, he already have some retro players with terrible faces from last gen i'm pretty sure, even some legends like Big O, J.West etc...
IMO it's related to your topic.

They could use the same retro rosters every year if their work was good. But as you mention, it's for year a terrible copy/paste job.
You also could mention the Playbooks of those retro teams too.

haha, even 2K doesn't know how to use Razor.

Nice you put this on a separate thread (Y) I remember (some years ago) some young players via media were upset on their 2K ratings (seeing it as a motivation). They should be more upset now (especially the legends). Charles Barkley should be mad about this also (other than not paying legends the millions he wants).

I honestly have not put it on Operation Sports, because I would probably be banned, or sent a message stating why they removed my thread.

Not worth it. Hoping the video on youtube gets a lot of views and people start talking more about these issues.

That's the problem, they just hope the problem goes away and people forget they were mad about it (sounds like a certain President lol)

Then problems that continue to get complaints will be fixed later. It's the same in the Call of Duty community

Man this video was great. 2k should be ashamed of themselves. I can see some tendencies being a lil questionable but copy and paste?...Jesus.... that Jason Williams was extremely bad.

Thanks, and yeah.... it's really troubling. But, speaking out was worth it, as they are going on and making some changes (it won't be enough, though)

The sad part is the only reason they are doing it is because my thread got a lot of attention. Otherwise, nothing would have been done.

Great video, excellent summary of what we've been talking about on the NLSC Podcast as of late. As has been pointed out, these things do lose traction once the next grievance presents itself, so hopefully the video allows it to remain in our minds as long as it remains an issue.

It's also incredibly shady of them to push through quiet updates and then have Ronnie mock people for "lying" about issues that were absolutely real and simply fixed without acknowledgement. However, I'd expect no less from him on that front.

Appreciate the time you took to make this video. But, my guess on what happens next? Is that 2k will probably just remove 80-100% of the all-time and classic teams in next years release, instead of putting in the work to correct this embarrassing mess of a roster.

Our only chance we got on getting the roster to be close to accurate? Is you getting paid by 2k and fixing it for us.
Try and contact 2k tomorrow with your plan, I can't see them turning you down.
Thank you for bringing this to their attention and good luck.

like Dee said, its not only a problem with classic teams.

even the current roster - which is the same than 2K20 - is FULL of amateur mistakes.

I also think the problem goes beyond simply hiring the right person. Stauff's rosters were very well-regarded before he was hired, so I don't think it's a case of hiring personnel who lack knowledge or competence. Not everyone on the team is on the same rung of the ladder, and if there are directives in place that lead to ratings being fudged or corners cut, it's going to be hard to do a proper job.

2K hired some very important people of the community but indeed they don't know how to exploit them efficiently for most of them.

about rosters and players ratings, specially historic versions, they JUST have to make it right, just ONCE.
But they didnt for years.

They probably hired them thinking they would sell more console versions of the game..lol...by taking them away from what they did best...make the PC modded version of the game 1,000,000 times better than other versions. The community members hired made PC modding the way to go for die hard nba gamers to get their money's worth out of playing. My opinion lol

I remember trying to make a bubble roster just before it began and there were so many stupid mistakes. They took Avery Bradley out but guys who have been injured for the rest of the season were still active on other teams

Stauff aka bedwardsroy19 used to make rosters for the PS3 version, so his hiring didn't have anything to do with PC modding.

All they care about is overall rating and posting stupid screens on social media with players and their overall rating. This is where their thinking about simulation ends. They have no idea because they never worked on formula. Its just one big no sense in ratings and tendencies since decades. Bunch of layabouts counting on huge group of arcade/sunday users playing only myplayer mode. They was never rly serious bout sim engine. Together with growing myplayer mode aspect it is and it will be even worst.
