2K20 In game music mods?

Postby marc23svp on Mon May 25, 2020 12:25 pm

Hello,

I saw this thread for 2k19 and was curious if anyone figured out how to do the same for 2k20? If so, how can we do this.

Thank you but I am talking about in game music. For example the music that plays pregame, or stadium music. This appears to only be for the music in the game menu.

I’m not sure whether this correctly answers your question, since I haven’t attempted it yet for 2K20. But I have successfully done it for both 2K18 and 19. I used the NBA2k17 File Explorer (I assume you can also use it for 2K20, or a new file explorer). I went to Preferences and asked it to open archive “3A”, where you will find pregame, eventmusic (defense chants, organs, etc.), PA announcer lines, and more. For 2K20, it might be the same archive, or a different one, so play around with it just to be sure. Finally, use Looyh’s Music Conversion Tool by dragging in an .mp3 fiel that you have and it will convert to .wav. Then, you use the explorer to find an audio file, which you can use Audacity to open to see if it’s the one you want to replace. Copy the original file name (eg. 000000-000000-000000-000000-000000-000000) and paste it to your new wav file. Select the file you want to replace in the explorer and right click, “import archive”, and go and select “Apply Changes”.

There is an easier way to do this for jukebox music; check Mahmood’s thread. I don’t know if this method will work for arena sounds, however.

Wonderful. It does answer my question because I understand what you are saying. My only question is where do I get "file explorer" from?

So it looks like I found it and was able to download it. I believe it is now 3I but the tool I downloaded only goes up to 3H. So am I SOL?

Been looking into this for a while now. I already have a playlist ready with instrumental versions of songs that would make sense for each franchise. I made some clips to use as entrance music for the players. Still have to find out if those clips receive some kind of post-treatment when played or if they should be replaced by clips with sfx for an arena feel (reverb, expanding, that kind of stuff).

You're right, the sound clips to replace are located in archive 3I. NBA 2K17 Explorer only goes up to 3H but you can use Modstar File Explorer. It has its pros and cons (fast, but in Chinese, and as far as I know you can't do batch export) but it's the only solution I know.

The sound clips are in a folder called newaudio/eventmusic and seem to be named very randomly. It's a bit tedious to locate them all, but I think they're pretty much all in the 3800 range and up. I think the easiest way to search for them is to sort the files by size and focus on the largest ones. Keep in mind that there's a full version plus shorter clips of each song. Finding the full track helps to locate the smaller clips.

Let me know if you make any progress towards finding the ID of each song. It would be much easier to make something good and help everyone choosing the track they really want from the ingame menu.

Check out this thread for more info on the file explorer. TGsoGood made a tutorial last year.

Looks like batch exports are supported but I don't know how to use that function. Really wish that Modstar dude was a little less elusive, his tools would be really helpful.

Thanks for the info. I was able to download modstar but I don't think this will work either. It keeps asking me to locate NBA2K19 and when I point it to 2K20, it errors out. I would love these developers to fix this for 2K20. Man how cool would it be to get this to work.

Weird, are you using the later version that was uploaded at the end of the thread I posted? There's an ini file called NBA2K19_ModStar_FileExplorer_Opt.ini in which you can write the location of your manifest, the address of your export folder and the one of your game directory - the program should work like a charm after that. You should give it another try, there's no reason it shouldn't work for you if it worked for me
