Unfortunately, it looks like we've lost some more players from the classic teams, including Joe Johnson and Manu Ginobili. The 2008 Hornets are also gone.

Only watched the first couple of current teams but those are ROUGH.

The causal fan probably won’t mind but There are a lot of missing two way players and CAP faces. I really hope that faces are compatible from 2k19 because that would help the process.

Here's hoping they can get some scans done during the season and push them through.

Do they ever do that? I don’t know that I’ve noticed that for faces. Tattoos I believe they did that with Lonzo at least. That would be clutch to have actual in-season player face additions.

I also wonder if it will be update before release. Having watched more, the Raptors have Jordan Loyd still on their team and he has since been cut. Maybe a Day 1 patch cleans up the official roster a bit.

Edit: counted it out. The modern roster has either CAP faces for or is missing 68 players. I only included those with at least partially guaranteed money or on a two-way. That seems fairly high. Here’s to hoping a day one roster update at least cleans up some.

They have pushed through some new faces. NBA Live tends to do it a bit more often, but 2K has the infrastructure in place and will do it as well. It's why some faces are difficult to mod after patches come through.

They've also added some missing historical players in roster updates as well, Steve Nash being a recent example. It comes down to them no longer being automatically included by having played in the NBA within the past year, and not yet being signed on to continue appearing as an historical player. I'm wondering if Joe Johnson playing in the Big 3 will be a barrier, though.

Could also be that new retired players might not be joining NBRPA or at least not in a way that would allow NBRPA deal with their likeness (which in turn I believe is currently under NBA licensing). So they might be doing their own deals as they see fit.

That's basically the situation, as I understand it.

The player rights situation is getting so bad that they had to remove the 2008 Hornets. Looks like they haven’t recovered any players missing from 2k19, so losing even more in 2k20 really hurts.

It's unfortunate as it does water down the historical teams to be missing key players like that. Still, I'd rather have them in the game than not whenever possible. If nothing else, they're extra assets for historical mods.

Yeah every year I hear people say they should remove the 2004 Pistons. Just don’t use them if you feel that way because I just fill out their roster manually and have no issues. Keep the teams in because it means we get the courts to go with the team as well

I think it's fair to question whether certain teams are good candidates for inclusion if they don't have all their key players, and if it gets to the point where they don't even have five real players, then it makes sense to remove a team as they did with the 1971 Hawks. As I said though they can still be useful, so while they may be in less than ideal shape, I'd rather they keep teams like the 2004 Pistons in the game.
