Might come off as a debbie downer lately, so before I state my disagreements, ill give the game some props in one area. It is extremely HD, the close-ups at the foul ine are sometimes out of this world (Especially with the current teams and the great cyberfaces). Like the Tatum screen on my Celtics video, thats unreal.
However, I can't disagree more in regards to "sim experience" against the CPU. I am experiencing none of that, and I am playing on HOF. I've also played on pro (initial bootup) and it was the same thing.
First video
First highlight is the one of the most common things that happen with the CPU. Most of the time, they dribble longer than Roberson does here. They will walk into the paint (Or drive, but no hard drives really exist in this game, so we will call it jog) and they will stand there underneath the hoop and just dribble, and dribble, and most of the time they actually end up going up for a shot after standing there for awhile, whether its on one or two guys. Otherwise, they will dish it off, and apparently when the CPU is just standing there dribbling under the hoop, they are immune to a 3 second call, because I've seen them dribbling for up to 5-6 seconds before making a decision. On that particular possession, I'm jumping like crazy with both players just to see if I could get him to react, because in the last couple test games i've played, this has been happening quite a bit.
Second highlight,is a common shot the CPU will take, and this happens even more in 2K19 than in 2K18. Players like to take off with crazy shots 14-17 feet away, half the time awkward one handers that real life NBA players wouldn't be taking from that range. Another frustrating thing about it: They will do this (Sometimes on 2 guys) and animation will look unnatural and the ball will fly up towards the hoop, and the game will force you to make contact and it will send them to the line. These shots are ridiculous.
Second Video
First highlight is a major problem with this years game. Unrealistic speed/movement, and it's happening in the half court or on the fastbreak. Roberson, who should be moving quick up the center of the floor, is slowly walking down the middle of the floor on the FASTbreak, just trudging along. He finally ends up passing it to Schroeder, who takes off from further out than an NBA player would for a layup, and flicks a shot up towards the rim. This is what a lot of fastbreaks look like when you are facing the CPU.
Second highlight is just an example of having no control, and animations just happening out of nowhere in this game. I blow by my guy with the crossover and go to pull up, and Carter does this one handed/wild flick towards the rim, even if I had momentum going forward, I should have been able to pull up (Which is what I tried to do) for a normal shot, and if they are going to force me to do anything at that point, it should be a drive to the rim, not a wild flick from further out than most any player would do it.
I am not experiencing good sim basketball at all in 2K19. The game is nagged by so many issues, including the way the CPU plays. Players on the CPU will also just "run the play" at times, where in the halfcourt offense a capable shooter is wide open, and he will just stand there for like 5-7 seconds, and decide at that time whether he will shoot or pass (And a lot of times he passes, even though he is wide open). The backboard mechanics are also killing me in this game, as most every shot that goes off the backboard banks in the exact same spot, and is either hard off the glass (front of the rim, or no rim), or it swishes in. You or the CPU will be right under the basket, hardly contested at all (or not contested) and the ball will go up soft like a beach ball, and ricochet hard off the glass and off the front of the rim. This game also suffers from "rocket" animations, whether it be that shot in the fourth highlight by Carter, or crazy fast catches, passes and jumps. Some of the shots that go up are incredibly wild. "Rocket layups" happen often in this game, and way further from the hoop than they should.
So aside from the skating, I have a ton of gameplay gripes with this game. 3 body steals happened back to back to back last game. None of them were real, the ball just kept falling to the floor.
This game causes way more frustration than joy. But, the feedback has to be passed on, so I'm going to continue experimenting with it.
HOWEVER,
diamenz: Nice Jordan highlights, that drive and adjustment was sweet.
