The Grand List of Missing Historical Players (NBA 2K18 Edition)

Here's a community project: compiling a list of the missing players on the historical teams. I figure it'll be a handy reference, especially for those creating historical rosters, or simply fixing up the current rosters with correct retro teams.

Is a great place to find out this info.
What I find surprising is how many players I have thought belonged on a certain year team ended up traded halfway through. For this I look into the transactions tab and so far I have filled in some blanks based on the end of the year roster lineup. Any thoughts to this? I feel like it makes sense but could also see an argument for including players who played a significant portion of that specific year for a team before being traded.

Basketball Reference is definitely the go-to place for that information. Beyond that, it's just a matter of going through every team in the game, which is why I thought it might be better as a community project a few of us could contribute to.

You're definitely right, you have to double-check the transactions. In fact, if there's something I wish B-R would add, it would be final season-by-season rosters so that you could tell that at a glance.

I use RealGM's playoff rosters.

Another good resource. Though, once you go back far enough, you'll reach the years where Playoff rosters were locked at 12 players, so they won't account for the players who were inactive in the postseason (but still very much on the roster).
