Talk about NBA 2K18 here.
Thu Sep 07, 2017 7:09 pm
So I'm looking forward to NBA 2K18, and trying out The Prelude as well, but I have to admit that I feel that trailer was a bit subpar. Probably a case of the bar being set high by previous trailers, but that one just came off a bit flat. Maybe it's just me, though.
Anyway, it's out in less than 24 hours time. The MyNBA2K18 app is already out on Android and iOS devices:

Are you saying the trailer was not lit enough?

I do wonder if all the Americans will ruin it for us again and get it taken off the store in Australia because they are impatient as hell?

I would indeed say that it wasn't lit enough, but maybe I'm still just shook from previous trailers.

Is the pop a shot a cut scene or an actual mini game???

Actual mini game
Fri Sep 08, 2017 2:01 pm
Well.... that blows.
Us PC Users don't get the Prelude.....
Fri Sep 08, 2017 2:43 pm
Downloading now on PS4. A shame it doesn't come out on PC as well, though.

Only over 2000 pairs of shoes available for MyPlayer.
I swear, this was one of the most stupid things they could say.

The timing was pretty bad. It should be noted that that's on Ronnie, though. He's the one who made that remark.
Fri Sep 08, 2017 5:49 pm
LD2K had his fair share of blunders too, but yeah, this one was on Ronnie which leads us back to "how the hell does this guy still has a community manager job?" which was covered already many times.
Fri Sep 08, 2017 6:21 pm
Agreed, though LD2K usually carries himself a lot better, and I do have to say that all of the interactions I've had with him have been cordial and pleasant. I guess the main point I was trying to make is that that remark is on Ronnie, not the developers themselves. They shouldn't take heat for his bad approach to PR.

Since The Prelude is out, we might as well go ahead and make this the impressions thread.
I will say this. Score one for EA as far as face scanning is concerned.
Fri Sep 08, 2017 8:43 pm
I know this is the mobile face scan, but did you try to create your face with editor alone?
Fri Sep 08, 2017 9:01 pm
I originally did, and then I got the scan working (well, I got a scan done and into the game, at any rate). The options are extremely limited. Frankly, I'd rather go with a bad scan than those very generic options.
Fri Sep 08, 2017 9:05 pm
:/
And here I hoped for a lot improved faces... By the sound of it it's more like Live 16 then?
Still few hours at work for me before I even get home.
Fri Sep 08, 2017 9:15 pm
Yeah, that'd be an apt comparison.
Speaking of apt comparisons, I've decided my scan looks like a mixture of young Adam Sandler, and young Alan Ruck.

So I managed to watch some streamer to see the character creation. He was annoying and clueless, but at least that meant he spent a lot of time on each screen.
I'll give them (2K/VC) that at the very least these pre-set heads are still complete 180 degrees turn for the better when compared to the cro-magnon player from before.
Still, I expected that we could select one of those pre-sets and then run the old face morph interface. I do not see a way to change body type either, which was one of the things I wanted to do.
However I must admit it's still a good improvement. "Well... Cool." is my reaction. I'm not totally blown away, but credit where credit is due and I do see the improvement. For the record it's not John Oliver cool, but non-sarcastic cool.

One of the most annoying things they've done is to only offer five basic hairstyles, with the rest being available at the barber shop (for a price, of course). It's putting more stuff behind a VC paywall, and frankly, it comes off as being rather greedy. They're already the dominant brand with NBA 2K17 setting sales records, they're likely already making a ton of money through microtransactions, and now they're looking to potentially gouge gamers for more? Weak.
I realise that VC can be earned without being paid for with real currency, but the incentive is obviously there, especially when it's used for other in-game purchases and you've got to divide it up accordingly.
Fri Sep 08, 2017 11:07 pm
Oh yeah, that wasn't great. I hope some haircuts will be unlocked for free with the OVR rating.
At this pace I'd hope they'll release NBA 2K20 MyCareer as a F2P title with team modes being pay once to unlock.
Fri Sep 08, 2017 11:53 pm
Whenever I hear all the VC paywall talk, I am thankful that what I dive into is roster creation and MyLeague. I agree with Andrew's points, they are already crushing sales, with little to no competition in the basketball gaming market, they could give back a little more to the gaming community who has been so loyal to them.
Sat Sep 09, 2017 4:25 am
Wow they really downgraded the CAP system.... biggest thing that I noticed. 2K just gave a massive "fuck you" to console roster creators I guess, they went straight back to the preset system in 2K14.
I love the way the game feels, especially the way the players move. I personally didn't see any huge gameplay mishaps, but we'll see when the game fully releases.
