Talk about NBA 2K18 here.

If Kenny Anderson's Tweet is accurate, then the last two teams will probably be the '93 Nets and '07 Warriors. That's suitably retro.
I don't mind those two choices too much, but it does continue the trend of the new additions not feeling quite "classic" enough. Going back to what I said before, when the announcement about the sixteen new classic teams came, it seemingly implied teams that were older and more significant than some of the ones that have been added. Granted, some of that's on us for assuming and getting our hopes up before further information was released, but at the same time, I don't think we were being unreasonable in doing so.
In all fairness, 2K's hands are tied by likeness rights, though it's not like they haven't already included teams that are missing a key player or two. Nostalgia also doesn't have to go back decades, and it's kind of nice to get some unorthodox choices in the game. However, to some extent, it feels like another half truth in 2K's announcement, and that's traditionally been a big problem with how they communicate with the fanbase. The half truth is that sixteen new classic teams are in the game this year; the full truth is that many of them are quite recent, and probably wouldn't fit a lot of people's definition of the word "classic", especially compared to other retro squads that are already in the game.
It is more historical content at the end of the day though, so it should be fun, and useful for modding. Even if it's not all that we hoped it would be, I'd rather have that content in the game than not at all.

Some of the ones from the past have puzzled me, for years. Like them putting the 84-85 76ers (without Barkley), the 97-98 Spurs (No title that year for them, 98-99 and 02-03 would have been suitable for Duncan and Robinson combos). The 89-90 Blazers instead of the 88-89 or 91-92 teams that made the NBA Finals, etc. Even the Maravich team is puzzling, the 70-71 Hawks only won 35 games. I understand it's to get Maravich in it, but they only have the license for 6 of the players.
I'm happy for the extra content, and I understand that licensing is a part of it, but some of the choices still make me scratch my head...

I think people are mostly disappointed when they mistake "classic" for "retro" or "historic". Those are not necessarily the same.

Fair point, but those words all still have certain implications. The existing content also sets a certain standard and precedent, which contributes to expectations.

We must also consider that 2K has added more and more recent teams since they first introduced classic teams. Not trying to defend them but I honestly did not expect too much from these additional 16 teams when it was first announced. I guess having low expectations worked out for me. I feel I will enjoy any of the new teams, even the Grizzlies.
I will especially enjoy the Nuggets addition.
On the other hand I fully expect 2K to step it up with the All-time teams.

Absolutely, and that's probably a wise approach. It makes sense that they'd add some unorthodox choices and more recent teams, as they've accounted for a majority of the logical choices in terms of the much older squads. I do like that they've added some other interesting teams that aren't necessarily champions, Finalists, or perennial contenders, but some of the additions feel like padding.

When they announced 16 Classic teams and All-time teams at the same time, It made me assume that they got so many new licenses with the new teams that they decided to make All-time teams alongside it. Which is clearly not the case. I guess we will get an "All-time 76ers" without Hal Greer, Andrew Toney, Billy Cunningham, Charles Barkley and Moses Malone
Tue Aug 22, 2017 6:18 pm
That's a good point, too. The implication was stronger because of that, since it indicated new, big name players.

It does - Curry, Nowitzki, Prime Melo...
It indicates.

I was really hoping for a Lakers 2008-2010 squad and an Orlando Magic squad from 2008-2009.
Wed Aug 23, 2017 7:01 am
The 01-02 Nets and 04-05 Spurs
https://twitter.com/NBA2K?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5EauthorSo I guess Kenny Anderson was wrong...
I like these two choices, just slightly disappointed that we didn't get Barkley, Miller or the 09-10 Lakers. I'll be modding them in, but it would have been nice to have the base.

I'm pretty sure Kenny Anderson just saw one of those prediction articles and assumed it was real. As for the 06-07 Warriors, another case of people looking into things too far.
Decent choices, but I was hoping for more obviously.

is the reason known for why there is not a reggie miller team in game?
least we know now for next year to set the expectation bar low on "classic team" additions.
Wed Aug 23, 2017 9:40 am
solid final list. really looking forward these:
05 spurs
99 knicks
11 bulls
02 kings
11 mavs
16 warriors
12 thunder
.... another month to go =/

There goes Kenny Anderson's credibility.

To date, he hasn't agreed to appear in the game. That may not have changed, even with the All-Time teams being included this year.

well still some hope left, maybe miller/barkley are on some all-time teams, just not expecting them this time.
i also have a suggestion for next years 2k wishlist...
give us a classic team creator/editor...? let us change the years/names/jerseys/arenas of the classic teams.
give us a huge player pool to copy/edit from.
now you can have any team you want.
Wed Aug 23, 2017 11:21 am
I'd definitely like to see a Legends Pool, similar to what NBA Live used to have.
Wed Aug 23, 2017 2:25 pm
I like the Spurs and Nets choices
Thu Aug 24, 2017 3:06 am
Turns out we're getting one more classic team. It's got to be a heavily requested one.... or maybe a recent Cavs team with Kyrie? Come to think of it, that's more likely considering yesterdays trade.

good news... more teams the better, and yea i agree, most likely it will be a lebron/kyrie cavs team.
kinda makes you wonder now... whats stopping them from adding/fine tweaking classic teams through the year? you know they got a leftos roster editor on hand, put it to use?
Thu Aug 24, 2017 9:59 am
They just announced the 06-07 Warriors
Thu Aug 24, 2017 11:09 am
LD2K's hint confirmed.

Dee4Three,
When i found out, that 2k will release, 16 More Classic Teams, first thing that crossed my mind it's you and rest of community. All time roster etc was and still is amazing. I hope 2K18 will be good foundation to new mods. Sadly i'm pretty sure thatk 2k screwed up faces, accessories etc in classic teams as always, I really hope that in this year will be no grabing animations, and finally gameplay will be enjoyable.

Glad you thought of us. I'm also happy that you are enjoying my all-time teams roster.
As long as they maintain the same file structure as 2K17, we can start right out of the gate. If they change it up, it will be a whole different ball game.
