That's not actually what I was saying before, but if that were to happen, I could see it affecting his MVP bid. It's a bit unfair because the numbers would still be historically significant in their own right, but he would technically be falling short of the feat that's been accomplished only once before, and making that history kind of has been a big part of his case for MVP.
However, I think the bigger issue is going to be the fact that barring an incredible finish to the season, the Thunder aren't going to win 50+ games. It shouldn't disqualify him, because he's carrying the team as he posts historic numbers, and without him, they'd be absolutely sunk. According to all the things the MVP award stands for as an individual honour, he's a legitimate candidate. Even so, I could see the team's record counting against him when the votes are cast, unfair as that may be.

It's probably Harden's to lose right now. Honestly I'll just be happy if Curry and LeBron don't win it again.
Another cool Westbrook stat:

Thu Mar 09, 2017 2:16 pm
He's got to be All-NBA First Team ahead of Curry.
Fri Mar 10, 2017 2:08 pm
He just tied Wilt on 31 triple-doubles with a 23p/13r/13a effort in a surprise win over San Antonio.
OKC now have a 25-6 record when Russ gets a triple-double this season.

"But he just gets stats, he's not helping the team win!"

Timberwolves hold on to beat the Warriors, though Klay Thompson made a good play to force a jump ball at the end. Just not enough time on the clock to make a play. Warriors officially can't make it back-to-back 70 win seasons.

Man, I feel for the fans that bought tickets for this Spurs-Warriors game. Imagine their frustration and disappointment right now.

Remember the days when players prided themselves on never missing a game? Granted, rest is sensible and has merit, and sports science/medicine has improved during the past couple of decades. But it's not as though stars of the past weren't banged up or at risk of injury from the physicality and nature of the sport, yet many of them played all 82 (or close to all 82) games in several seasons, even into their 30s. I've seen it suggested that it's necessary now because of changes to the game, but I'm not sure that I buy that.
Anyway, the Spurs had a bit more talent out there, and picked up the easy win. The Warriors therefore lose three straight for the first time since they blew a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.
Sun Mar 12, 2017 2:13 pm
And this loss may cost the Warriors home court advantage throughout the playoffs.
Sun Mar 12, 2017 2:28 pm
Yeah, that's going to be an interesting race the rest of the way now.

Westbrook is up to 32 triple-doubles now. OKC beat Utah again to keep the race for the fourth seed open.
It was good to see Dante Exum play well too. He scored a career-high 22 points (7/8 FG, 1/1 3pt, 7/9 FT) in just 26 minutes. It seems like he is finally finding his feet in the NBA after that ACL injury a couple of years ago.
Sun Mar 12, 2017 9:43 pm
LeBron James picked up his ninth triple-double on the season, which is the most he's had in any single year of his career to date. Any other season, that would probably be a much bigger deal and garner a lot of attention. It's still a feather in his cap regardless, but it's certainly overshadowed by what Westbrook is doing this season.

Ricky Rubio was one assist short of a 20-20 game today.

Parsons done for season.Man, I thought the Evan Turner signing was bad...
Wed Mar 15, 2017 8:23 am
He's another guy who can't seem to catch a break, health-wise.
Wed Mar 22, 2017 1:10 am
Be nice to see the NBA get rid of draft pick protection... or at the least just leave the only option being lottery protected
Its sad to see the lakers blatant attempt at staying bottom 3 so they can keep the pick
Or the kings doing just enough to stay bottom 10

Make it 35 triple-doubles for Russell Westbrook on the season, as he becomes the first to tally one without missing a field goal or free throw.

Truly historic seasons for Westbrook and Harden. We should take all of this in.. because we may not see numbers like these again any time soon.
Best thing about it? Both teams are winning as well. Its going to be epic seeing what they can do in the playoffs.

It makes you wonder what other seemingly unattainable records and statistical marks might be matched or bested next. Could Wilt's 100 points some day fall?
Mon Mar 27, 2017 6:38 pm
Blazers back in the 8 seed after Denver got blown out at home by New Orleans. We're coming (to maybe win one game at home) Golden State!
Tue Mar 28, 2017 11:20 am
Man, there go the Cavs, resting their top players in another nationally televised game against the Spurs...actually no, they are out there, but they haven't exactly shown up to play.
In all seriousness, the Spurs are putting on a clinic in this one.
Tue Mar 28, 2017 1:03 pm
Westbrook just gave his MVP chances a massive boost. He got triple-double #37 and single-handedly dragged OKC to a win in Dallas. Scored 12 points of a 14-0 run in the final couple of minutes.
I hope Mark Cuban enjoyed that ending
Fri Mar 31, 2017 10:09 pm
LeBron trying to dodge the bullet by tanking so he wouldn't have to face Heat in 1st-8th seed matching... Only for Heat to advance to 7th seed again being matched against Cavs.

I miss Nurkic
