Bulls and Ravens trade for missing pieces of the puzzle
With Chauncey Billups out for at least 3 months, the Ravens are forced to make a move so as not to lose positioning in the playoffs seeding.
Tim Hardaway, a veteran guard who was named the Finals MVP for the Bulls, will be shipped to Montreal in exchange for promising center Raef LaFrentz and a reunion for B.J. Armstrong. Aside from sending those two players for Hardaway, the Ravens also sent their pick for next year’s draft.
Trade breakdown:
MON gets:
T. Hardaway (72 OVR)
CHI gets:
R. LaFrentz (74 OVR)
B.J. Armstrong (67 OVR)

HILL SCORES SEASON-HIGH 52 POINTS IN OVERTIME WIN

Montreal Ravens @ Detroit Pistons 92-95Feb. 1, Detroit – It seemed like nothing can stop the 27-year old Grant Hill from scoring tonight as he eased his way to a career-tying 52 points while shooting above 60%. When asked about his performance, he just shrugged and said it was all luck. “It just felt like the basket was getting bigger and bigger for me and I just felt like throwing it there.” Aside from Hill, Kevin Garnett also had a solid performance. He had 27 points while grabbing a season-high 16 rebounds.
Recently acquired guard Tim Hardaway also posted good numbers with a 22-11 (pts-asts) stat line.

Ravens sign defense specialist Randy Brown
After 2 weeks of Hardaway being the only capable ball handler, the Ravens are now trying to lift some of the guard duties from him. Aside from the injured Billups, only Hardaway was the point guard of the team and signing a player like Randy Brown should maybe take off some weight from Hardaway’s shoulders.
Brown signed a 1-year deal worth exactly $1M.

HARDAWAY SCORES CAREER-HIGH 31 IN LOSS

Montreal Ravens vs Cleveland Cavaliers 103-98Feb. 18, Montreal – 2 weeks after Montreal acquired Hardaway from the Bulls that sent rookie Rae LaFrentz to Chicago, Tim has bumped up his stats. From averaging 9.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 3.2 apg, and 0.8 spg, when he was playing with the Bulls, he has now almost doubled it up and is currently averaging 16.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 6.6 apg, and 1.1 spg. Tonight, he scored a career-high 31 in the loss. It felt like he was the only one contributing to the Ravens’ offense tonight as both Garnett and Bryant went cold shooting the ball.
In the Cavaliers’ side, we see 7 players scoring above 12 thanks to their unselfish style of basketball. Kevin Willis was their highest scorer with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Fortson granted much-awaited wish

After making fun of the organization that took him in as a rookie, Fortson has now been reportedly traded to the Toronto Raptors for veteran Michael Smith and 2-year pro Peja Stojakovic. Fortson has been very open in his decision to leave Montreal ever since they drafted him, refusing to participate in practice and such. With this trade, the Ravens clear cap space and take out trash.

MON gets:
M. Smith (68 OVR)
P. Stojakovic (62 OVR)

WIZARDS’ COMEBACK EFFORT NOT ENOUGH TO DEFEAT RAVENS

Montreal Ravens vs Washington Wizards 81-77Mar. 1, Montreal – Following 2 straight losses from last month, the Ravens look to switch things up this month by playing harder for the ball. Bryant led the Ravens with 24 points in 9 of 16 shooting from the field.
Washington threatened to take the lead from Montreal with just 1 minute left in the game. They came back from 12 points in the 4th quarter when Bryant left the game with a dislocated finger. Marciulionis scored 12 points in a span of 1 minute for the Wizards with only 4 minutes remaining in the game. Eventually, their offense broke down in the final minutes and the Ravens capitalized on their mistakes and turnovers leading to the Ravens’ first win in 2 weeks.
NOTES:Bryant is reported to be out for 2 weeks after dislocating his finger.

WILLIAMSON CARRIES DEPLETED RAVENS TO WIN VERSUS BULLS

Montreal Ravens vs Chicago Bulls 99-97Mar. 19, Montreal - The much anticipated return of Kobe Bryant didn't happen tonight but instead the Ravens got last year's Most Improved Player to play like one. Corliss Williamson scored a season-high 22 points and went perfect in the field with 7 of his 7 shots falling in. Tim Hardaway also had 22 points tonight against his former team and went perfect from beyond the arc with a 4-4 clip.
"Our shots were just falling. It was our night. Other guys stepped up and contributed to a must-win game. It's really a big wave of confidence knowing that we can match up with them without Kobe and MJ."
Pippen was the main scorer for the Bulls. He ended with 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists but his teammates were nowhere to be seen. Aside from him, there was no other Bulls player that scored 20 points nor someone recorded a field goal percentage above 60%.
The game was decided by a split-second decision of Tim Hardaway to pass up an open three. After faking a three-pointer in the corner, he lobbed it up to Michael Smith who dunked it all the way with only 2.1s remaining. Chicago failed to put up a shot in the remaining seconds of the game and ended with a loss to the Ravens.
NOTES:Michael Jordan is out with sore knee and was listed day-to-day..... Kobe Bryant is listed day-to-day with a dislocated finger....
Player of the Game: Corliss Williamson (22 pts, 5 rebs, 2 asts,1 stl, 7-7 FG)
