I had a $400 PC with a R9 270x graphics card with a AMD FX 8320 processor that ran the game on Medium-high settings. There are PC's out there (Custom built obviously) for around $350-$400 that have a decent enough processor/Graphics card to run the game on Medium-high settings at a good FPS. You just have to find the right seller.

With that PC, the cutscenes were still smoother and the game played smoother than console. And we had the modding... and the modding component isn't there with console. TBM... you like to mod, so I doubt you would want to lose that.

But $100 is crazy.

What about pulling off a $200

Running at 720p at High, getting a 2GB card, and get a decent CPU that surpasses minimum Sub $100

But also I'm doing 2K14 too, as the modding there has got me

To add to that, my brother has a A10 5800k processor (3.8 GHZ) with a R7 360 graphics card (card is only $99.99 on newegg) that runs the game on Medium High Settings.

But to answer your question, no you certainly will not find a tower for under $200 to run the game on Medium/high.. I feel like that will be impossible.

Still, that sounds impossible. The parts you would need are expensive and would add up.

Thanks for the donations, guys. Just realized I got some. If I don't wind up getting enough, I promise I'll refund the money.

Not asking for a refund. So don't bother. We just need you around for the new game. You made that bald Drexler for my 94-95 Rockets team, and have certainly helped out a lot with Gregs tool. You are a big part of the next gen modding.

Getting back to modding discussion -

Anyone with other modding related ideas?
Or any roster and branding ideas?

We need someone that wants to attack presentation (scoreboards). Nobody has figured it out for next-gen....

Re: Modding Discussion

Thu Sep 08, 2016 6:34 am

What kind of scoreboards?
Scoreboards don't really do much for me. I saw a recent one created by bliss for 2k14 that was really good but as far as adding espn or tnt scoreboards, it doesn't excite me.

I take that back if I can use espn scoreboard while playing in college then I would be excited.

Yeah, I was thinking like ESPN/TNT scoreboard with the gooeyoverlay popup edited as well. It's the little things like that that really help the realism.

Also, to note. For NBA 2k16, the first thing I did was use Limnonos tool and create a complete CF list (someone else was doing it as well and found some gems). I will be doing that again this year. His tool usually comes out in the first week or two. So I will be going through each play (PNG number) with the tool to identify the faces/hidden faces in the game.

I actually really enjoyed doing it last year..

Re: Modding Discussion

I'd like to get a little more involved this year. With all the other responsibilities around the site, I haven't been able to get into 2K modding as much as I once did for Live (and still can from time to time, since I still know what I'm doing there), but I'd like to give it a try.

Compiling some comprehensive resources on everything from the basics to advanced modding is very important, I feel. From making the most basic changes to big projects, I think there needs to be some kind of step-by-step guide for everything we know, or at the very least an "edit this if you want to change that" reference list. When someone who's new to the modding scene asks a question, it's very easy to skip over some of these details, either because we assume they know them, or the people who are helping out the most have understandably grown a bit weary of answering the same questions in great detail, time and time again.

As someone who helps people build PCs on regular basis: This is indeed impossible with brand new parts.

However, if you dive into ebay/craigslist/reddit/whatever, you might be able to find some interesting deals and be able to build solid PC around $200. But it consumes time and takes luck.

I think IamSamke's "guide" last year for 2k16 was really helpful. Those guides are great every year because they give everybody the links to the best threads in one place, it's organized... well done.

I think whats been missing is more tutorials. I made some video tutorials of stuff I knew, but I don't think that was enough. We have really talented people who make cyberfaces (Peacemannot, TBM, etc), a cyberface tutorial would be huge. Razor made one awhile back for NBA 2k14, but obviously we need a new one. I think that big project mods are limited because not enough people know how to make cyberfaces.

The cool thing about making cyberfaces is it's free. Anybody can download blender and free editing programs like Paint.net or GIMP to get the job done. I would love to learn, but every time I start I make a million mistakes because I don't have a tutorial.

Jaosming was a major help when it came to tutorials.... it sucks he's not around to help anymore. The main reason why I haven't tackled making tutorials is because they just take so long to make. Maintaining the Limono Modifier tutorial was a pain in the ass because there were many new people. There was this one Big youtuber who featured my tutorial on one of his videos and I got an influx of so many new people, which is probably the reason why it's one of the most viewed topic on the NBA 2K16 section.

Even though I won't be buying PC version this year (I will order one for PS4, probably), I would like to contribute to 2K17 modding community. There are some new faces on modding stage (PeacemanNOT, Dee4Three etc.) and future is bright.
Since best thing I do are uniforms, I will try to make detailed tutorial on how to make them. I tried doing uniform tutorial back in 2K15, but it turned out...well not so good. I'm sure it will help.
I will make "Complete guide to improved 2K17" thread again, it will be updated even more frequently. I can't wait for release of the game!

Absolutely. We definitely have some great resources, but we can always do better in that regard. As I said, I think it's easy to skip over some of the basics because we assume people know them, or we've grown tired of answering the same questions in great detail over and over again. Updated guides on manipulating the actual textures certainly would help as well, so I agree those would be great.

I'm not really up to date on the our avancements in 2k modding, but is there any chance we'll be able to modify player models?

I know it's been beaten to death, but apart from the usual court and jersey textures, it's clearly the biggest visual mishap this year.
Just wondering.

Re: Modding Discussion

In 2K16 you could modify the player models. Hopefully we can in 2K17 also.

I really hope to swap out MyCareer characters

Meanwhile. I'm just reliving the dream

If the game gets a modding tool, I suppose that will eventually come. We did get it in 2K16.

Of course, it's entirely possible in theory that the files are the same as 2K16. Probably not, but it's possible.
