Pelicans forward Bryce Dejean-Jones dead at 23

New Orleans Pelicans forward Bryce Dejean-Jones died early Saturday morning in Dallas from injuries sustained from an apparent gun-shot wound.

Dejean-Jones, 23, was a promising rookie who went undrafted in 2015 and played 14 games for the Pelicans last season.

“It is with deep sadness that the Pelicans organization acknowledges the sudden passing of Bryce Dejean-Jones,” the team said in a statement. “We are devastated at the loss of this young man’s life who had such a promising future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryce’s family during this difficult time.”

According to the Dallas Police Department, police responded to a shooting at an apartment and found Dejean-Jones collapsed in the apartment breezeway. Dejean-Jones allegedly kicked in the front door of the apartment and entered, the resident told police. The resident called out to Dejean-Jones from the bedroom but received no answer, according to the report. Dejean-Jones then allegedly kicked in the bedroom and the resident fired his gun.

Damn. More details to come, I would imagine.

If he was shot by a white man and it's in Dallas, then that story might be full of shit. Just assuming I don't know if the shooter is white or not.

White or not, crimes are comitted by criminals of all sorts. Seems which race comitted against which is becoming important these days. I don't know if this was race instigated crime but jumping to a conclusion should be avoided.

I paid attention to this rookie and picked him up in fantasy league while everyone was injured there. So I had glimpse of him in TV while he was starting. So the loss feels bit more unease. RIP Bryce DeJean

The colour of shooter or the rookie has nothing to do with anything here as the homeowner was minding there own business when someone smashes through the door and bursts in to there house, it's America they have the right to own firearms and defend there homes. It's a messed up situation if all the reports are true.

Is this impossible to happen?

It's not far-fetched. Things do still happen in the south. Better yet not even the south. You have cops in NY shooting black people for fun.

Yeah anyone would react that way if someone invaded their home but it's also easy to say that's how the story went when it's his word versus a dead person's.

What's the alternative explanation here supposed to be? That he knocked at the wrong apartment, some guy he didn't know answered at 3AM, led him into his bedroom and then shot him before calling police to tell them he shot someone?

Or that he shot Dejean-jones intentionally in the breezeway at 3AM, leaving absolutely no evidence along the way, before kicking in his own doors and calling police telling them he shot someone?

Then we have the current story where a 23 year old male, who is angry and he's trying to bust into his boo's apartment at 3AM but gets the wrong door. I'll assume he's intoxicated because that makes the whole thing more rational for everyone involved than some kind of secret cover up orchestrated by a random possibly white guy to trap the kid just to shoot him once.

Well he wasn't drunk he was trying to enter his child's mother home and got the wrong apartment. He wanted to celebrate his daughter's birthday.

That doesn't mean he wasn't intoxicated.
Dejean-Jones was visiting his girlfriend in Dallas for his daughter's first birthday, which was Saturday, according to Nichols. He said the girlfriend returned to the apartment first while Dejean-Jones went for a walk after they had gone out.

"He went to the wrong apartment unfortunately and I think he thought his girlfriend locked him out, so he was knocking on the door, banging on the door, it's locked,'' Nichols told the Associated Press. "So one thing led to another.''

Sources told ESPN that Dejean-Jones was involved in an argument with the child's mother before the shooting.

It's much more plausible that he got in a fight with her and left, then came back at 3AM and went to the wrong apartment instead of it being a setup by the neighbor.

So if that came from the agent and he wasn't there, that had to come from a source that was involved in the incident. Not his girlfriend because she was in the other apartment. That information had to come from the neighbor.

i dont see what the color of his skin or the shooters skin has to do with this story. if you going around breaking into homes (correct homes or not) you might get shot. in fact i would say you deserve to get shot. the door is locked for a fucking reason

Hell of a mistake for him to make.

It's not information from a source, it's reasonable speculation by the agent as to the reason he was busting down an innocent mans door.

Same reason why Prince's publicist said "he had the flu" so the first thing that came out would not be him dying from painkillers
