The problem is there aren't many skilled post players who are bigs.
The Hakeem Rockets accidentally fell into pace-and-space WITH a dominant post player with their titles. The most skilled big post player in the game is surrounded by an organization more dysfunctional than he is.

Why do you think that is? Could it be because coaches are encouraging big men to work on their jump shooting rather than post play? I can only assume you're referring to Cousins, who this season is now playing less in the post than ever before. Ironic when a player who is dominant at one thing is asked to do another just because that is the new accepted way to win.

I'd rather see teams execute well, smartly, unselfishly, and fun than return to the dark ages when every coach in the league tried to see just how much he could strangle the game into submission before Adelman and Popovich saved the league from the horrors of whatever The Czar was doing and the Francis vs. Marbury face-offs.

Popovich can hardly be credited with saving the league. All he did was respond to changes in the way the game is officiated. Popovich along with Van Gundy were strong proponents of grind it out basketball. Still, I don't think you really can say it was poorly executed or not smart or unselfish.

I see no reason for the NBA to curb three point attempts just because for 80% of the history of the shot teams ignored its spacing value and Rick Barry when he told them HOW IT WAS WORTH AN EXTRA POINT.

I actually don't mind its spacing value, but I don't see why it should be valued more than any other shot.

Probably because those big men aren't entering the league at 22-25 anymore after being the center (literally) of a post-based system, they're entering it at 19 after being cogs in a student-athlete machine.

Cousins has always had a great outside shot. The Kings are just in a state where he's free to let them fly. If he's being asked to, it helps the team because half the starting lineup or more can't shoot.

The Spurs were never a grind-it-out team except their post 2007 title "ancient" period. They were ahead of the curve at upping the pace and playing deeper. (Starting in 2009!) They're only in the bottom third of the league in pace now because the rest of the team surpassed them, they were one of the fastest paced teams in the league from 2011-2014.

The league did their job to make post players obsolete. Anti Shaq rule(5 second back to the basket rule) and rid of hand checking didn't help.

The more I watch the nba the more in favour of moving the line back.

Right now we have so many bigs who could and do have a post game shooting so many 3's nowadays like Cousins and Anthony Davis.

There are only a hand full of players that don't attempt 3's now while the ones that are some of them really shouldn't be shooting them at all

I'm pretty sure Shaq played his entire career with that rule, it was implemented because of Mark Jackson backing down point guards for the entire shot clock and then passing for the assist. (Anthony Mason used to basically do this same thing, it's why his assist totals are so high, he'd pound the shot clock down, then pass. If the guy scored, he picked up an assist, if the guy missed, well it didn't hurt Mason's FG%.)

The anti-Shaq rule change was the zone. Only it never really worked that way because Shaq was too good at seeing the floor and stopped being turnover prone years earlier. So it was more like an anti-Zach Randolph (or other team blind big) rule.

I always though the anti-Shaq rule was the reinforced backboard stanchion.

Late 80s/early 90s, I believe, since it's often referred to as the Charles Barkley Rule or Mark Jackson Rule.
