Former Cleveland Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao confirmed Sunday that he will join the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors.
Varejao, who was waived by Portland after the Blazers acquired him from the Cavs, told Cleveland.com in a text message that he agreed to a deal with the Warriors.
Varejao cleared waivers Sunday and will earn the veteran's minimum with Golden State for the remainder of the season, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.
The Warriors, who own the NBA's best record at 49-5, were competing with the rival Spurs for Varejao, who spent his first 11-plus seasons with Cleveland.
Conspiracy theory: he's doing this on behalf of the Cavaliers, where he'll take down the Warriors from the inside, just as Derek Fisher did with the Thunder some years back.
