From the last game against the Celtics...
Noel and Okafor on/off tonight Together: 22:01 (-20) Jah Alone: 15:13 (+16) Nerlens Alone: 10:26 (+1)
The 22:01 they played together includes, of course, all of the 4th quarter meltdown.
Noel is a shadow of himself from the second half of last season. His lack of shooting range or a post game not only means there's no space for him when Okafor is occupying the low post area, it also means the opposing defense can very easily load up on Okafor with no consequences whatsoever. On the defensive end, Noel is taken away from the rim which severely limits the impact he can have while being replaced by a slow-footed Okafor who can't protect the rim for shit, let alone guard pick and rolls.
I'm not seeing any real solutions to this problem right now.
Time after time what does them in is lack of any competent ball handler/playmaker. Those are the players who carry other teams in crunch time while Philly has nobody. When the defense ramps up, they can't even initiate their offensive sets or get the ball to Jah. It's usually a turnover fest or bombing contested threes because there's nothing else there. You can't win playing that way. As weird as it may sound, letting Ish Smith go in the offseason was a big mistake. One player who can throw a nice entry pass or run a pick and roll - and they probably win at least two of the last three games (and besides, Noel probably wouldn't look as dead as he does if somebody could run a pick with him and throw a lob). The garbage they're trotting out at guard positions is hard to watch. Pretty sure we've hit rock bottom on that front.
Wroten's supposed to return on December 11th, maybe he can help. Counting on Tony fucking Wroten to save you is questionable at best, but it's all we have at this point. Pissing a nice 4th quarter lead away for 3 straight games because nobody can get the ball to Okafor or do anything else other than turning it over is crazy. If they're not going to sign anyone, then maybe play JaKarr at PG again, surely he can't be any worse than those shitheads.
For anyone interested in that kind of stuff, 0-16 puts them two losses away from tying the worst start ever (next 2: @Houston, @Memphis). The thing that's sort of flying under the radar, though, is that they ended last season on a 10-game losing streak, which means the Sixers have lost 26 games in a row - that ties the longest losing streak ever, a loss to Houston tonight beats it.
