NBA 2k16 MyTeam- No purchased VC!

I started a MyTeam because MyCareer is so bad this year. I play this mode without additional VC, so i dont buy VC or MT. I just opened starter pack (i chose Hawks, because they have good bench players). I though only receive one Hawks player. Hei is my only silver. Im going to play through challanges before hitting online. I want to collect MT and buy packs from there and try to improve my team. But in business, mine very first lineup:

I already played one challange and it was called On your mark. I received 750 MT for that and buyed pack. Nothing came out from that one, so i sold those players.

On your Mark: Won 78-75 2OT - Real nailbitter. On regulation last two minutes i had 10-0 run which led to OT. Needed second OT before i got the W.

Im curious. Why do you say mycareer is so bad this year?
