Lets talk about the Mr. Busts

Thu Jul 02, 2015 6:53 am

You can talk about the busts/put in your top busts in NBA History here.

Re: Lets talk about the Mr. Busts

Kwame Brown
Adam Morriosn
Ed O'Bannon
Darko
Corymach - mock draft success

Andrea Bargnani
Marvin Williams
Joe Alexander
Delonte West
Martell Webster
Michael Beasley

Some of these guys had a solid career. But a #2 shouldn't be a journeyman.

I'd add Michael Olowokandi to the list.

I'd add Sam Bowie to the list as the #1 Mr. Bust of all time (selected before MJ, Charles Barkley and John Stockton) because the 1984 Blazers GM said, "We need Centers." Same with LaRue Martin before Bob McAdoo and Dr. J.

Yeah, everyone knows you don't choose based on team needs. It would be almost as crazy as say the Wolves choosing Sam Dekker.

Then again they already have Dieng and Pek so it makes sense they would and should've chosen Dekker over KAT.

Those crazy GM's!!

Before anyone brings up Oden he wasn't a bust due to lack of talent. He was actually looking to be one of the best two way Cs in the league if he stayed healthy. Injured all the way.

He was just a physical bust....

Technically he's a bust because he didn't pan out and he was the number one pick ahead of some players who definitely did, but I absolutely agree that he's a different category of bust compared to, say, Kwame Brown.

Jay Williams and Oden are busts.

Would you guys consider Bryant Reeves and Antonio Daniels as bust?

Stromile Swift should be right up there with Darko.

Hasheem Thabeet in 2009 draft, as 2nd pick (Bfore Harden, Curry, DeRozan, Tyreke...)

They might be on the fringe, given their position in the Draft. However, Daniels still had a lengthy and respectable career, and Reeves was solid before injuries abruptly ended his tenure in the league. They're in a different class to a Thabeet or Darko.

Still can't believe Cleveland picked Bennett as #1.

Re: Lets talk about the Mr. Busts

Not to say Bennett was a great pick at #1 or anything, but could you call anyone from the 2013 Draft the consensus #1 pick, in hindsight?

What about Joe Barry Carroll in 1980? He's on the fringe, but injuries slowed down his career after 1st overall in 1980. If he stayed healthy, he'd be a star. The 2nd overall pick in 1980 was a bust to be drafted right before Kevin McHale. He was never an all-star unlike Joe Barry Carroll. Willie Cauley-Stein will prove a bust this year. If KAT gets injured a lot, that'll shorten his career. Think of Brandon Roy. He was a star who got injured a lot in 2010-11 and got injured in 2012-13, which shortened his NBA career. Brandon Roy played 6 seasons, even as a star.

Closest one I could think of is Antetokounmpo or Oladipo

Perhaps, but there's no clear cut number one...at least, not yet.

Is Robert Swift too late in the lottery to be considered a bust? He was chosen before a number of people who have had solid NBA careers.

Re: Lets talk about the Mr. Busts

Tue Jul 07, 2015 6:56 pm

No

His NBA career can't be considered as a career

He is a hard bust
