Kings trade Nik Stauskas, Carl Landry and Jason Thompson to 76ers in salary dump

Thu Jul 02, 2015 9:20 pm

The Sacramento Kings cleared about $16 million in salary-cap space on Wednesday night, unloading two significant contracts onto the Philadelphia 76ers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Kings traded forwards Carl Landry and Jason Thompson and 2014 No. 8 overall draft pick Nik Stauskas to the 76ers for the rights to overseas players and a future second-round draft pick, sources said.

The Kings will send the Sixers a protected future first-round draft pick as part of the deal, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Landry and Thompson each have two years and $13 million-plus left on their contracts.

This move looks even dumber now that Matthews spurned the Kings' ridiculous offer of 4/64. They're dumping salary, giving away picks, and prospects for the opportunity to sign free agents who don't want to play there. Matthews just used Sacto to get a better deal from DAL.

What the hell are the Kings doing?

They even traded draft picks in this deal and the 2 players they are looking at getting now are Josh Smith and Rondo (N)

I was happy when the city saved the Kings but now i think they should of let them go to Seattle !

Ok, I can't be the only person that thinks the combination of Cousins, Smith, and Rondo would make the Kings the most interesting team in the league.

It's a trio that could perhaps overachieve, if they can find a way to co-exist for an entire season. Of course, overachieving in this case probably wouldn't be too close to a good season.
