Sources: Anthony Davis agrees to $145 million extension with Pelicans

New Orleans Pelicans All-Star forward Anthony Davis has reached agreement on a maximum five-year extension that could be worth in excess of $145 million, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

The contract will have a player option after the fourth year, sources said.

Davis is eligible for the Derrick Rose rule that allows for him to occupy 30 percent of the Pelicans' salary cap.

A correct move by Pelicans. As mentioned in the article, he is a top candidate of MVP award, unless he is not hampered by injuries.

This is almost 30 millions per year.

It kicks off in 2016, when the salary cap goes nuts.

Money well spent.

Good move. Will give the Pelicans time to let that bad Eric Grodon contract run out, then make a big splash with their best player locked up for the long term.

Yep. If there's a young guy in the league you would give this kind of contact to, it's Davis. He's got future MVP potential.

Having Davis locked in long-term will be a pretty handy bargaining tool for them when they're trying to entice free agents to sign in the future. It helps them on and off the court.

Largest contract in NBA history in nominal dollars.
