Tournament of Champions.

Fri Jun 19, 2015 11:17 am

So basically the last 16 NBA champions, who do you guys think will win? Got this from reddit. I think seeding was based on Regular Season.

Off the top of my head, I'll say...

Round 1

'15 Warriors over '06 Heat
'07 Spurs over '05 Spurs
'08 Celtics over '10 Lakers
'11 Mavericks over '09 Lakers
'00 Lakers over '04 Pistons
'03 Spurs over '02 Lakers
'01 Lakers over '13 Heat
'14 Spurs over '12 Heat

Round 2

'15 Warriors over '07 Spurs
'08 Celtics over '11 Mavericks
'00 Lakers over '03 Spurs
'14 Spurs over '01 Lakers

Round 3

'08 Celtics over '15 Warriors
'14 Spurs over '00 Lakers

Finals

'14 Spurs over '08 Celtics

I know the Warriors this year was godly, and the Celtics were good but I think one of the dynasty team will come out on top, so SAS or LAL.

Some one run quick simulation on 2k?

The 2001 Lakers/2013 Heat matchup is bullshit.

2007 Spurs over 2015 Warriors
2008 Celtics over 2009 Lakers
2004 Pistons over 2002 Lakers
2001 Lakers over 2014 Spurs

2004 Pistons over 2001 Lakers
2007 Spurs over 2008 Celtics

2007 Spurs over 2004 Pistons

Interestingly, since 2004 every team has won the playoffs by going exactly 16-7 except the 2007 Spurs (16-4), 2008 Celtics (16-10), 2011 Mavericks (16-5) and 2015 Warriors (16-5).

For fun, the teams combined regular season and playoff pythag records:
2000 Lakers (79-26)
2001 Lakers (66-32)
2002 Lakers (75-26)
2003 Spurs (73-33)
2004 Pistons (75-30)
2005 Spurs (79-26)
2006 Heat (68-37)
2007 Spurs (80-22)
2008 Celtics (83-25)
2009 Lakers (77-28)
2010 Lakers (70-35)
2011 Mavericks (69-34)
2012 Heat (63-26)
2013 Heat (78-27)
2014 Spurs (77-28)
2015 Warriors (81-22)

And those records prorated to 82 games:
2000 Lakers (62-20)
2001 Lakers (55-27)
2002 Lakers (61-21)
2003 Spurs (56-26)
2004 Pistons (59-23)
2005 Spurs (62-20)
2006 Heat (53-29)
2007 Spurs (64-18)
2008 Celtics (63-19)
2009 Lakers (60-22)
2010 Lakers (55-27)
2011 Mavericks (55-27)
2012 Heat (58-24)
2013 Heat (61-21)
2014 Spurs (60-22)
2015 Warriors (64-18)

And if you consider the playoffs to be equal weight to the regular season:
2000 Lakers (59-23)
2001 Lakers (64-18)
2002 Lakers (62-20)
2003 Spurs (56-26)
2004 Pistons (58-24)
2005 Spurs (60-22)
2006 Heat (55-27)
2007 Spurs (65-17)
2008 Celtics (59-23)
2009 Lakers (59-23)
2010 Lakers (56-26)
2011 Mavericks (58-24)
2012 Heat (58-24)
2013 Heat (60-22)
2014 Spurs (59-23)
2015 Warriors (64-18)
