Pacers forward Chris Copeland stabbed outside New York nightclub

In a shocking scene outside a New York nightclub, one NBA player was stabbed and two more arrested during a dispute early Wednesday morning, according to several local media reports.

Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland, 31, a former member of the Knicks, was stabbed in the abdomen around 4 a.m., the New York Daily News reported. His wife, Katrine Saltara, 28, and another woman were also slashed during the argument. All three were rushed to area hospitals and are expected to recover.

Two Atlanta Hawks players were also arrested amid the fracas. Thabo Sefolosha, 30, and Pero Antic, 32, "refused to move when police tried to set up a crime scene," sources told the Daily News. They both face charges of obstructing justice and disorderly conduct, the New York Post reported. Respectively, Sefolosha and Antic were reportedly also charged with resisting arrest and menacing.

Not sure what Sefolosha and Antic were thinking there, but Copeland, his wife, and the other victim were certainly lucky in the grand scheme of things, as it sounds like they're going to be fine.

I figured NovU was referring to Sefolosha and Antic, though it doesn't sound like they're getting special treatment. They've been charged, at least.

The NYPD, known for police brutality & going over the line when apprehending tall & scary black men, broke Sefolosha's tibia. He's done for the season.

ATLANTA -- The events surrounding the arrest and ensuing season-ending injury of Atlanta Hawks forward Thabo Sefolosha in New York on Wednesday have come under increasing scrutiny by the National Basketball Players Association and the Hawks during the past 24 hours, league sources say.

Sefolosha was injured in the early-morning hours Wednesday outside a Manhattan night club, where a police report states he was resisting arrest. Sefolosha and Hawks teammate Pero Antic were arrested on suspicion of interfering with the efforts of local police to set up a crime scene after the stabbing of Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland.

...

The police are facing new questions about their tactics during the incident, as Sefolosha suffered a season-ending broken fibula, which went untreated overnight and into Wednesday as Sefolosha languished in custody.

On Thursday evening, TMZ published a video that it says shows five officers surrounding Sefolosha at the scene and trying to take hold of him. TMZ says the video shows one officer grabbing Sefolosha by the back of the neck before bringing him down to the ground.

Sefolosha has hired noted criminal defense attorney Alex Spiro, who told TMZ the video "speaks for itself."

Antic also expressed support for Sefolosha.

"There's a video out that speaks for itself," Antic said Friday. "The only thing I can say is that we feel bad for the bad publicity that we brought to the Hawks organization and the Hawks family."

Privately, sources say, Hawks officials also have begun to raise questions about the specific circumstances that led to Sefolosha being held by police for several hours with a broken fibula.

The police did the right thing in applying brutality and assault to these criminal millionaire athletes, fuck the legal process and knowing the truth, they're black and they're whack and should pay for it.

Antic clears a few things up:

Pero Antic said he and Atlanta Hawks teammate Thabo Sefolosha were not with Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland when Copeland was stabbed outside a Manhattan nightclub.

''We don't have nothing to do with what happened with that,'' Antic said. ''We weren't together. We didn't even see the guy and whatever happened, happened way before.''

Antic, a 6-foot-11 backup center, said he and Sefolosha were not trying to shield police or onlookers from Copeland.

''I would say that it's a pure example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time,'' Antic said. ''I mean, people know Thabo for so many years in the league. He's probably one of the greatest guys. The reporters who are here know me. ... It's just a pure example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.''

There are still no details to the Sefolosha and Antic thing considering they weren't with Copeland and Sefolosha somehow got injured.

Hawks forward Thabo Sefolosha said Tuesday for the first time that injuries sustained during his arrest last week in New York were inflicted by police.

Sefolosha suffered a broken right fibula and ligament damage at the scene of his arrest early Wednesday morning.

"On advice of counsel, I hope you can appreciate that I cannot discuss the facts of the case," Sefolosha said in his first public comments since the incident. "Those questions will be answered by my attorney in a court of law. I will simply say that I am in great pain, have experienced a significant injury and that the injury was caused by the police."
