Trade Deadline Deals

Fri Feb 20, 2015 4:17 am

So far there's been:
Javale McGee to the Sixers for a draft'n-stash prospect, don't think he'll ever come to the NBA.
Andre Miller to the Kings for Ramon Sessions.
Arron Afflalo and Alonzo Gee to the Blazers in exchange for Victor Claver, Will Barton, and Thomas Robinson.
KG is headed to the Timberwolves in exchange for Thaddeus Young.
Goran/Zoran Dragic has been traded to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawne Williams, Jordan Hamilton, Danny Granger, Norris Cole, and two first round picks.
Reggie Jackson has been traded to the Detroit Pistons. OKC receives Enes Kanter, Steve Novak, and D.J Augustin; Utah receives Kendrick Perkins; and Detroit receives Reggie Jackson. Looks like Kanter blocked the Lopez trade. Funny, that's more blocking than he's done all year.
Milwaukee has traded Brandon Knight to the Suns for Miles Plumlee and Tyler Ennis.
***To elaborate, Michael Carter Williams was traded in exchange for Isaiah Thomas. Instead of keeping Carter Williams, the Suns instead let him move to the Bucks and Isaiah Thomas was allowed to move on to the Boston Celtics as a separate deal.

Phoenix trades Isaiah Thomas to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Marcus Thornton and a 1st rounder.
Boston trades Tayshaun Prince for Jonas Jerebko and Luigi Datome.
Norris Cole has been shuffled to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for John Salmons.
KJ McDaniels has been traded to Houston for Isiah Canaan.
Alexey Shved has been traded to New York in exchange for Pablo Prigioni.

Afflalo is a bench now? Wow, what a luxury for the Blazers.

And a first round pick - that's the important bit.

Hmm I guess I shouldn't have made that Afflalo thread. Whatever, it'll be vindicated when he proves to be the final piece of the dynasty.

Holy crap, this is a point guard swapping bonanza

MCW, knight, augustin, prigioni, canaan all moving too

Don't remember the last deadline that was this busy

Yeah, this has got to be the busiest deadline I've ever seen. It's usually bullshit. The only one that compares was the year Deron got traded. Really surprised to see Brandon Knight get dealt - I thought he had found a home in Milwaukee.

Oh my fucking God I can't keep track with all those trades. It feels like the entire summer transfer window but condensed in a few hours. There are some online betting services and people are betting on transfer odds like crazy. Hundreds of dollars are won and even more are lost

Dude I am so lost. My mind is blown even though I'm writing these updates.. This is MADNESS

Minnesota is stupid. Giving up a good Young player for the sake of letting Garnett retire in Minnesota

Philly (N) (N)

Definitely a wild deadline, a change of pace from some of the quiet ones in recent years.

Michael Carter-Williams getting dealt is probably the biggest surprise for me. Not that he was unquestionably off-limits or anything, but I figured he was definitely in the Sixers' rebuilding plans moving forward.

Looks like Rudy Gobert is going to start getting some more playing time in the wake of the Kanter trade. Not a bad thing for the Jazz, if his play in the Rising Stars game is any indication of his talent and potential.

I was surprised at the movement of K.J McDaniels. Sixers fans and from what I understand management loved him. I don't get it aside from they don't want to commit the type of cash he was bound to draw this offseason anyway.
Michael Carter Williams isn't as surprising, there's been rumors for months that they were generally displeased with him.

(1) GORAN DRAGIC - GREAT JOB BY PAT RILEY

Never mind Bosh and Wade. The Heat probably could compete in East alone with Goran and Hassan for years to come. I love this move.

(2) MCW + KJ gone?

What the fuck are the 76ers doing? They didn't even get shit. So their option now is to overpay Thad who has been unhappy with all the losers he played for. And Houston gets KJ for Canaan? This is a robbery.

(3) Reggie Jackson is the future in Detroit.

This is nice for the Pistons. Let's face it. Jennings hit the wall. He can be good but he is just not that good in consistency. Reggie will only improve. My question is how will they pay Monroe and Reggie altogether?

Excited to see MCW grow in Milwaukee with Jason Kidd.

Re: Trade Deadline Deals

That's true, MCW will be a good fit. Both are players who came into the league without jumpshots.

So to sum it up...
Pat Riley is still a genius.
Guards were shuffled like poker cards.
76ers are getting one of the funniest players in the league.

Just read that 37 players were traded today, which is a record.

Admittedly losing D.J Augustin hurts, he was blazing hot for awhile.

Re: Trade Deadline Deals

Fri Feb 20, 2015 11:15 am

Fuck.

These trades will definitely hurt both of my NLSC fantasy teams that has Augustin and Brandon Knight.

Fuck Reggie Jackson. Fuck Jason Kidd.

Fuck, my brain can't handle this shit. omfg.

Re: Trade Deadline Deals

Turns out K.J. might have been essentially gone at the deadline the moment he declined to sign the Hinkie special and went for early RFA. With his hot start to the season and flashy dunks and chasedown blocks all over the Internet, I guess Hinkie didn't like the odds of re-signing him at the price he considers right. The return is very unimpressive. Canaan better be ready to play 35+ minutes instantly because he's the only healthy PG on the roster.

MCW for the Lakers' pick is a very risky move. The protection goes:

2015 - top5 protected
2016 - top3 protected
2017 - top3 protected
2018 - unprotected

With LAL tanking hard, there's no way they let Philly have the pick this year. And depending on how their offseason goes, it might not be such a great pick next year and onwards. So apparently, Sixers' fans need to hope the Lakers can't sign anyone notable in the summer with all their cap space and Kobe takes 25 shots per game next year as well. Otherwise, it might turn out MCW was given away for a pretty low pick.

I am really bummed about MCW being gone. He had his flaws, but was mostly unfairly shat on for his bad percentages and turnovers this year and was instrumental to whatever little success the Sixers had. Between the offseason shoulder surgery and the team he was given to work with, I think Carter-Williams did about as well as could be expected and tried his hardest to do his job well. With his all-around contributions and improving defense, I saw potential in him to be the 3rd-4th best player on a contender someday. He has talent and I believe he'll figure things out, especially when he gets an NBA offseason to work on his game (particularly the jumper, of course). Too bad it won't be in Philadelphia. With so much uncertainty surrounding that Laker pick, I really don't know if this is a good move.

What I know is that we can't keep trading players for picks forever. How much more can this rebuild be set back? I'm mostly on board with the moves Hinkie makes, but I fear that he will one day outsmart himself badly and screw the franchise over for a good half-decade. He might have outsmarted himself already with MCW, but PG is the easiest hole to fill in today's NBA. Hinkie swims and sinks with his draft picks, it seems. I can't help wondering how much longer he'll have green light from the ownership to focus entirely on stockpiling them.

By the way, this can't be good for the Sixers' team spirit and, being now without a PG (unless Canaan is a badass or they strike gold with a random D-League callup like they did with Covington), the losses should start piling on again after going 12-24 in their last 36 games. However, it seems NY and Minnesota have no intention of letting the Sixers take any of their ping pong balls. Really don't know how to feel about any of this.

Just woke up to this, still can't believe some deals.

You guys in Philly are lucky to have Canaan. Might somewhat compensate for the loss of Carter-Williams, as dude can shoot. Tony Wroten is your starting PG now? Is he even a PG?

Rockets now have maybe the oldest backup guards in Prigioni and Terry. Not sure if this will solve the PG problem. More athleticism with McDaniels coming to town.
