Nets trade AK47 to Philly, Sixers to immediately waive him

Thu Dec 11, 2014 4:57 pm

The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to send veteran small forward Andrei Kirilenko, a 2020 second-round draft pick and cash to the Philadelphia 76ers for second-year forward Brandon Davies,

...

Kirilenko is in the final year of a $3.3 million contract, and will be waived in Philadelphia once the deal is completed, sources said. Kirilenko would become a free agent, but it could still be several weeks – even months – before he's ready to sign a deal to play elsewhere this season, sources said.

KG apparently suggested very strongly to reporters it's the start of the rumored blow-up.

The Nets are also sending Jorge Gutierrez to Philly and giving them the right to swap 2nd round picks some year.

The Sixers are reportedly trying to convince AK to stick around, but waiving him is still very much on the table as he's not very thrilled about playing for them. I didn't think the Brandon Davies era would end so suddenly, though.

Billy King is the master of getting rid of draft picks. Surprised they had their 2020 2nd rounder saved up until now. Since the 76ers are so far below the salary floor, it's basically a free pick.

Sixers should try to convince him of the Evan Turner route, pad your stats for a month or so and then we'll trade you to a contender.

Speaking of him, the Sixers appear to have gotten more in return for Brandon Davies than they did for Evan Turner, even if Kirilenko is waived shortly.

This wouldn't hurt 76ers much. His minutes will be absorbed by Sims, LBM, Noel, Covington. What does this mean for the Nets though? Close to nothing?

The Beginning of the End, if KG is to be believed. And rumours have been swirling that they're looking to cut their losses and break up an expensive team that peaked after one season, and even that was below expectations.

I wonder where AK47 is going to end up. I read that he's dealing with some family issues at present, so he may not be in a rush to join another team. Come February or March though, he could be a key pick-up for a contending team.

I hope AK ends up in Portland. A veteran wing behind Nicolas Batum would be a great way to reinforce the bench. Besides, this would be a great change to get at least SOMETHING of value for Meyers Leonard.
