When will the 76ers win? (Answer: December 3rd)

Fri Nov 14, 2014 2:07 pm

They just lost to the Mavericks 123-70, and are now 0-8. So, throw out your predictions here.

I think they'll go at least 0-15 to start the season, though that 0-18 start by the Nets a few years back may be the next record to fall.

At this rate they won't even win the draft lottery :rimshot:

Maybe they can scrape a win in a few days in San Antonio if Pop rests most of his team. Streaks like these usual tend to stop in unexpected places.

MCW is back. He sporadically had some crazy games last season. I can see that happening soon enough and they will have their shot at first win of the season. Heck, even the Lakers stole a game with Boozer and Lin duo's excellence.

I haven't checked their schedule but I have a feeling their hunger for the win will earn them a first victory within next 5 games. QMIN

Certainly not unthinkable. They've got some tough games coming up, but you're right, it wouldn't be the first time we've seen a lousy team end a big losing streak against an opponent they really shouldn't have beaten.

They're not winning during their Texas Triangle road trip. November 19th vs Boston, their 11th game of the season.

0 wins 12 losses

MCW is pretty much the same player from last season. Perhaps he needs to shake off injury and maybe he can improve a bit. Anyway its looking depressing.

Pressure's on the Knicks, now.

MCW missed summer league and preseason while still being limited in training camp due to his shoulder surgery in May. He only started normally practicing a week before his return. Give him time to shake the rust off. After 5 games, he's just now getting to about where he was last season in terms of athletic ability.

Anyway, I don't imagine his stats for this season will be looking great. His assist numbers will almost certainly suck because nobody on this team can shoot (assist opportunity numbers make him look much better). As for his scoring, his form on the jumper looks a bit improved, but once again he's shooting too much because him and Wroten are the only not-laughable scoring threats. Last season at least he had Hawes and Thad to lean on and share the load with. They weren't all-world scorers, but they were something and they helped space the floor.

Watching this team play is depressing as hell and it's only been 12 games. Unless a decent player or two is brought in (which I do not expect), I can't see them winning more than 10 games on the season, and even that might be generous. They can't score for shit and they don't defend nearly well enough to make up for it. I might have to check out quicker than last year.

After dropping the Boston game, Knicks and Timberwolves look like the only semi-realistic chances to avoid the worst start ever. Too bad they're playing New York on the second night of a back-to-back, then.

Never, 0-82 is comming.

And so, the Knicks avoid the embarrassment of being the first team to lose to the Sixers this season.

76ers should start their best players. I am thinking:

PG: Carter-Williams
SG: McDaniels
SF: Thompson
PF: Covington
C: Noel
-------------
Rotational: Wroten(6th man), Shved, Davies
Fringe: Mbah a Moute, Sims

I'm thinking that Thompson should be out, McDaniels to move to SF, and Wroten should start. Maybe moving the main threats on the floor could (as much as the Sixers can do anything, lol) build a decent lead and the bench can attempt to tread water.

I gave this a thought but both Wroten and MCW are inefficient chuckers which is a recipe for disaster when put on the floor together. I think Wroten should lead the second unit as a primary ball hogger.

Wow, this team is so horrible.

Out of few guys these ballers are all D-League players.

If this team wins 5-10 game this season, it will be NO surprise.

I'm thinking Carter-Williams and Wroten should play as few minutes together as possible. They're both at their best on-ball, creating for themselves or others off of drives to the rim. Neither can space the floor for the other. They're also pretty much the only ball handlers on the roster (maybe also Shved), so one of them should be on the court at all times - all the more reason to not waste their minutes on playing together. It minimizes their strengths and exposes their weaknesses.

It really doesn't help that this team has a grand total of 3 dudes that can shoot from outside - Covington, Thompson and McDaniels (fun fact: when a technical foul is called on the opposition, Henry Sims is the one who shoots the technical free throw. Let that sink in for a while and think about the state of shooting on this roster). Ideally, at least two of them should be out with MCW/Wroten at any time. Give them some space to drive, for fuck's sake. In a MCW/Wroten/Mbah a Moute/Noel/Sims lineup, both MCW and Wroten have their work cut out for them. The paint is clogged all the damn time. It's borderline sabotage, not that this team needs any, to be honest.

I'd try something like this... first unit:

MCW-McDaniels-Mbah a Moute-Noel-Sims

Let Sims hang out in the high post, the defenses need to respect his mid-range jumper. McDaniels camped out beyond the arc, cut to the rim if opportunity presents itself. Try to get some P&R action with MCW/Noel.

After the last few games, I'd be happy to just cut Mbah a Moute's ass, but unfortunately somebody needs to play SF and he is a decent defender. Just don't let him shoot from outside anymore, please.

McDaniels, Mbah a Moute and Noel are pretty strong defenders, so the lineup also shouldn't let the other team lead by 15 after 10 minutes if the Sixers can score at all.

Second unit:

Wroten-Shved-Thompson-Covington-Davies/Gordon

With Thompson and Covington stretching out the defense, Wrecking Ball should be allowed to drive to the rim at 120 mph, which is all he knows how to do and how he was scoring 20 ppg before MCW returned. If a shooter is left open, kick out to either of them for threes. Shved can play a pick or two with Davies and try to create some offense, too. If they can't score, make some subs quickly because this lineup features little to no defense, except Davies taking a charge once in a while.

It might not work at all, but what they're doing right now clearly doesn't either, so why not? Maybe then they'd score more than 83 points against really bad defenses like the Knicks.
