2014 Summer League Thread

Tue Jul 08, 2014 4:08 pm

I was hoping one of yous would create the thread but here I go.

Marcus Smart: Can't shoot, I expect to see 3 for 13 shooting every now and then in his first season. But is a NBA ready defender imo. Avery Bradley and this kid duo will shoot 25% altogether but should be interesting on defensive end. Unfortunately, Rondo can't shoot either. Just can't bleed green anymore. Too bad.

Mitch McGary: Double Double in his first game. (Y) Steven Adams and Perkins have some serious competition.

Any player or team you want to discuss, do so here.

Offense aside who's the better PG from what you've seen so far, Rondo or Smart?
Bradley was supposed to replace Rondo at point but Bradley forgot how to point guard.

Bradley's more of a defense stopper, but I could see one of the PGs getting moved this season.

Sad to see last year's breakout star Pierre Jackson go down with a ruptured Achilles after being held hostage by the Pelicans last season. It's like the Sixers' basketball karma for tanking/not trying to win/stashing injured players caught up to them.

Avery Bradley is apparently a free agent so Smart could be his replacement.

They Celtics gave him a four year contract for $32 million.

I think it's about time that we throw out the notion Avery Bradley is a point guard.

When last season began, Bradley was running the point and Celtics not-surprisingly were looking great as the best Wiggins tanker in the league. He was having ORtg of 75-80 iirc. Jordan Crawford finally came in and did around 120 ORtg. Bradley literally made Jordan Crawford look like the best Jordan in history. And there I began to bleed green. True story.

Napier shoots 5 for 18. Meanwhile Hairston who was the heat's original pick 50% with 4 threes for 21 points. Napier is looking totally unplayable at this point. I sense he's going to a D-League but the Heat are extremely thin so there's still chance he'd see some minutes.

27 year old Courtney Fells is arguably the MVP so far in this year's summer league with efficiency. He's averaging 17.3ppg on 0.581% FG and 0.542% from 3 point line, 1.000% from FT, and mere 0.75TO. That's amazing. He will probably get the NBA contract finally for the first time in his career. Look no further, he's your Cinderella story of the Summer League.

Chicago's McDermott meanwhile finally cooled down for 11 points on 3 for 10 shooting with 4 TOs. But probably didn't need to be all that effective as the Bulls won big (now 4-0). Snell definitely is looking better from last season, scored 18 points with numbers all across the board. Solid game.

That was a sick move, only topped by the glare he gave at Wiggins.

Glen Rice Jr. looking good so far:

G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
5 5 31.6 0.507 0.444 0.702. 1.0 6.6 7.6 2.4 1.8 0.6 3.2 2.8 25.2

Yeah, Lil Glen Rice's been having a pretty good Summer League.

What stinks is Hairston is looking solid. The better he gets, more ugly Napier is gonna look. I hope this story takes 180 degree turn in the regular season.
