"This is a very tough business," Gilbert said in a statement. "It pains all of us here that we needed to make the difficult decision of releasing Mike Brown. Mike worked hard over this last season to move our team in the right direction. Although there was some progress from our finish over the few prior seasons, we believe we need to head in a different direction. We wish Mike and his family nothing but the best."

With the 4 years remaining the Cavs have eaten 5 years and $23 million to fire Mike Brown twice.

My guess it's either Mike D'Antoni or Mark Jackson they're getting to replace Brown. Probably D'Antoni because Mark Jackson is a dick to his bosses and Dan Gilbert doesn't like to be dicked by his subordinates.

Former Cavs GM Chris Grant got fired for drafting Anthont Bennett obviously.

Mike Brown sure has it made. Has anyone ever been paid so much money to not coach two NBA teams?

Mark Jackson is a religious fanatic and has proven it will interfere with his work. Not sure who the fuck would want to touch that. He's not that good and brings annoying distractions.

Larry Brown maybe. Pistons, Knicks and Bobcats all let him go before the end of his contract. Knicks had signed him to a $50 million five year one, then canned him after one season. Pistons were still paying him when the Knicks job ended.

I wonder how many Coaches of the Year, or just coaches period, have been fired by the same team twice. Brian Hill was by Orlando.

Don Nelson had two stints with the Warriors and won one of his Coach of the Year awards during the Run-TMC years. It arguably doesn't count as I believe he technically resigned each time, but such resignations are more or less a more dignified firing.

If you resign though, your remaining contract is not honored, isn't it?

Possibly not, but that's neither here nor there as far as benji's question is concerned.
