March Madness 2014

Sat Feb 22, 2014 11:05 am

The road to Cowboys stadium is starting to take shape. Syracuse just went down the other night. Arizona has some injuries that might affect its title aspirations. Parker, Embiid, and Wiggins are all gearing up for potential NBA careers next year. Who are you following and/or excited to see in March?

I personally don't watch much college ball outside of March, but I am following my alma mater UC Irvine who is currently 1st in the Big West. We have had a stellar year, especially on the defensive end thanks to 7'6" Mamadou N'Diaye. The way we make it to the Big Dance is by winning the Big West tournament, which is still by no means a lock even at the 1 seed.

Rooting for Wichita State. Kinda surprise that they're still undefeated.

I absolutely have zero idea when it comes down to NCAA bball. But I've heard of all the big name rookies to come.

Can anyone explain which conference are the good ones (usually?)? And which teams/players to look out for?

Click on Rankings. People usually follow the top 25 teams if they don't have a specific team like I do. Also, look up mock drafts like on nbadraft.net and look at the top players and see which schools they go to. Most NBA fans already know about Parker and Wiggins but there are a few others that might be worth watching.

some of the bigger conferences are: ACC (Atlantic Coast), Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC (Southeastern)

Waiting for a Cinderella run just like what FGCU did last year. Gonna root for that underdog.

Cool.

I don't have any favorites nor will grow one so I will just enjoy star players in making. Yeah, Embiid, Randle, Parker, Wiggins are definitely the players that I could follow.

who wants to start the bracket thing this year?

We want you Oz.

To be tied in our basements.

We wouldn't mind the bracket thing either.

Oz, where are you on the bracket? Selection Sunday is this coming Sunday.

Meanwhile, UC Irvine's locked up the #1 seed in the Big West Tournament this weekend so we should be in a good spot to win. I'll be going to the Final on Saturday if we make it and it'll be broadcasted on ESPN2!

ESPN also has one: http://games.espn.go.com/tournament-cha ... t/2014/en/

One year I was actually 22nd in the world for a day.

Yep, a different one would be good. Is only available for US mobile numbers so can't use it anymore, which is a shame since I preferred Yahoo's one.

We can blame Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and Illuminati goon Warren Buffet for Yahoo fucking it up...

http://www.cnbc.com/id/101494540
Quicken Loans—whose founder owns the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers—said the billion-dollar prize would be shared by any qualified contest participant who predicts the winners of every game.

"People say how do you price this thing. You price it for two things. You price it for one, that everyone will get it right; and secondly that someone will figure out a way to beat the game," Buffett said—adding he believes hackers will try.

The billion dollars would be paid in 40 annual installments of $25 million each. The winner (or winners) may also choose to get a lump sum payment of $500 million (or share in that amount).

Yahoo Sports designed the online bracket experience, and it's hosting the destination for the challenge.

In addition to the potential grand prize, Quicken said it will award $100,000 for each of the 20 most accurate "imperfect" brackets in the contest to use toward buying, refinancing or remodeling a home.

Quicken will also be directly donating $1 million to nonprofit education organizations in Detroit and Cleveland.

I just clicked through randomly, realizing I didn't pay nearly any attention to NCAA this year...ugh. I do want to see UMass vs Duke though
