Re: Animation Patch

Tue Feb 25, 2014 6:43 am

I miss a lot of animations from NBA 2K09-2K12 (to see what animations got took out go to OS forums - there is whole thread about them). However, to implement them you need tool like FileLoader (ie. not replacing IN game files directly, but loading them up to memory when game is started = unlimited slots for mods really).

If there is enough people to support this, I can ask jenkey to look into it. I can't promise anything at this stage though.

I didn't take a capture of the animation, but I could import it again, only for preview purposes, when I have some time.

ravena0123 wrote:sir, did you include rick barry's free throw? btw, thanks to the mod ^_^

Barry's free throw is very easy to add, I didn't include it in the official patch I've released because I decided to respect 2k's decision on removing it... but I have to admit that at my home, as a retro fan, I don't respect that decision so much because it's in my game

Thanks for appreciating my effort :) Jao did an inspiring preliminary research on animation editing, I started from here and I think I have come a long way.

Is it possible to add Allen Iverson freethrow routine from NBA2k11?

Thank you! I haven't tried with his free throw.. yet, it could be possible.

This patch is made for people who enjoy the little details, I'm flattered that you appreciate my work :D

Thank you, it's great to see that people enjoy my work.

stockalone1232 wrote:First of all: WoooooW  this is very very impressive.

honestly, I really hate myself for not buying NBA2k14 so there is a quite silly question to come: does this animation patch (or this UBR patch) work in NBA2k13, too?

Thank you :) I'm sorry to say that this patch won't work for 2K13 since it has some differences in the animation format. 2K14 is worth the buy, you can play HAWKS's 23 UBR too :D

Maximus89 wrote:This is insane! Thank you! Bro, is there a way you can do a proper T-Mac jumpshot from his prime with Orlando? Dat sweet leg kick.

Do you have a suggestion for rookie/young Jordan shot? It certainly changed through the years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbK1VpQf7XM

Maybe eventually you can look into getting animations like Michael Jordans ball fake and holding the ball with one hand. Steve Nash's finger lick as he brings the ball up the court. Shaq looking at his hand and running back down court after a dunk lol. Jordans full dunk package, Shaqs dunk package etc etc from games past.

Thank you :D The problem, as always, is having enough room for new animations, not only in the animation file but in the game itself. But I could consider adding some of your suggestions.

(Now I don't have much time, but I'll take a look at Jordan's young shot style)

Well. it could be great, no more not enough space problem :D It should mean more work, but patching is fun too :D

gamez, will it affect other players' animations on a certain roster? lets say PLAYER 1 has release 1, jumpshot 1, will the default animation for that be changed?

I think the shot he has in my patch now is very accurate, but I will take a look.

Right now I'm on a travel and I don't have my 2K14 copy with me, I will show a preview when I'm back at home.

That's the reason to provide the .turk files, if you don't use them in your roster the players will have incorrect animations.

Great job! With everyone taking part in modding every single aspect of the game (visual, animation, audio, roster, presentation, etc.) 2K on PC will be a much better game with mods than next-gen!

you are saying that just because you haven't tried playing or cant even lay your hands on NBA 2K14 on Next-Gen.. Mods are the only thing PC version will beat Next.Gen, but other than that, Graphic-wise, Animation-wise, Gameplay-wise,etc., NBA 2K14 Next-Gen will beat the hell out of PC version..

@ gamez, dont get me wrong man i love your animation patch, i already implemented it on my personal roster :D .. you really did a great job and this patch is really great for the NBA 2K14 PC community..

Re: Animation Patch

Wed Feb 26, 2014 3:16 am

Erm no? I have played NG version and CG version and they both play pretty much the same. So don't go exaggerating how great NBA 2k14 on NG is. It's very good, but has many problems I can't tolerate and there are also things I would love to see on CG. Works both ends. ;)

There is hope for PC users though. Next year all big platforms should get same engine (take that EA Sports :P).

Fingers crossed ;). I won't bombard this thread with such comparisons though as this is unfair to Gamez work (which is incredible. try doing double taping on shoots :D).

Re: Animation Patch

Wed Feb 26, 2014 3:25 am

Hu U? lol
just like you've said, THEY ARE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME, but not the SAME and face it, CG will never be better than NG.. i too have CG & NG and if not of the mods and patches of the PC version, i will stop playing CG on PC.. just sayin though.. this is just for me.. i dont know about you.. so... lol :D

Re: Animation Patch

This is a really interesting patch. I can't imagine how long it must have taken to make this. Just so I understand, it seems like some of the shooting forms are taken from some free throw shooting forms. For example, Kemba Walker's new sig shot form in this mod seems to be identical to the form from the "Push Up" free throw routine. Also, Tim Duncan's and Pau Gasol's and Manu Ginobili's shooting forms seem identical to their respective free throw forms. So, is it possible to take the "shooting" part of a free throw animation and assign it as a regular jump shot shooting form? If so, it would be great to apply this to other players (mostly Dirk Nowitzki lol)

This was fancy and worth a mention xD.

Probably was possible to pull off without gamez work (not sure though:P), but loved it anyway :D.

Re: Animation Patch

Wed Feb 26, 2014 11:49 am

Have you mentioned here how you do it, like, what software do you use to edit them and do you just add some of the animation files from previous 2K games (are they the same file type)? I hope more people get involved in animation patching.

Re: Animation Patch

Wed Feb 26, 2014 1:48 pm

If someone could get a dunk from the dunk contest to be completed in game, like the underneath both legs dunk, that would be crazy.

Re: Animation Patch

Wed Feb 26, 2014 3:47 pm

I love this so much!!!!! These shots are nearly perfect!

But not to knock on any of your hard work but is there any way to keep some of the old animations but use the rest of yours? For example, I think the Paul George shot is more accurate as is than the modded version. Unless you'd be willing to rework that animation in particular?

About this current gen-next gen war, I think that trying to replicate next gen in PC is a huge mistake, that way we can only make current gen limitations more evident, is obvious that next gen consoles use a more powerful engine, so, what I propose is stop looking at next gen and start trying to do our own version of what we see in real games, that's why I encourage people to use their imagination when patching. My animation patch is my personal version of what I see in a real game, I've never had next gen as a reference. When I see that someone made one ot those next gen looking cyberfaces I always think: why don't you use a real picture of the player as reference? those "next-gen looking versions" only serve to show everything that can not be achieved with current-gen. Don't get me wrong, any effort is great, but I think those patchers could do a much better job aiming to the real player and not the next-gen counterpart. A pc patch really stands out when it shows something that can't be done on next gen.

You are right, I've extracted some shooting form data from free throws (which isn't easy at all). About Dirk, I already said I made a sig shot for him which is not included in the patch

It could be done, the problem, as I said before, is finding room for new animations, but maybe with that FileLoader tool that info-0 mentioned... And dunks need the .exe file to be edited, too.

Thank you, and don't worry I tried to keep most of the animations because I understand that some people could prefer the old ones, to find an old animation look in the Adaptation Sheet, for Paul George's old animation use Release 17 and Jump Shot 35. By the way Paul George's is one of the first sig shots I made, maybe I could take a look if it isn't so realistic...

Here are vids of layups that were taken out. Taken from OS forums:

Jamal Crawford
phpBB [video]

360 layup
phpBB [video]

NBA 2k10 signature layups
phpBB [video]

And best of all, NBA 2k11 had most animations in CG series imo, only because Jordan was cover star. Since then, a lot went missing. Strange. ;)

Would pay to get those back in a game. Mail sent to good guy to take a look into exe structure. Maybe he will come up with something. Fingers crossed...
