An idea I had to prevent easy re-signs in Dynasty...

Since, in the offseason moves, you essentially play as GM, I thought you should have to answer to the Owner of your team. And this could be used to prevent making re-signings easy, as they have been in Dynasty mode. In the past few Lives, you could just re-sign anyone you wanted just as long as they wanted to sign with you, (which they did 90% of the time anyway) and not have to worry about how much you were over the cap.

So I thought, when it comes to re-signing players, there should be an option to see, in addition to a player's interest in re-signing and the money he wants, the owner's comments on the player, whether he still wants him around, and the money he's willing to spend on re-signing the player. And team owner's rationale will be based on the current team owners, so if you're GM of the Clippers, you'll expect to see a lot of talent sign elsewhere unless the team is really successful, but if you're with Dallas, you'll be free to re-sign almost anyone you want.

To keep things fresh, owners can change so there will be hope if your owner is a cheapskate, or your job might get harder if you have a hard ass owner take over the team. Of course, if you don't like your situation at all, you can take a job at another team.

Thats avery good idea :D (Y) ...... I havent thought of that before.....and it would be nice to be able to have that kind of freedom on the game...I think it would make it a little more realistic.

I like that idea. It ties in with the whole idea of factors in negotiations and the player's willingness to say or desire to leave. I think that negotiations (and hopefully salaries that aren't fixed to the length of the contract) will alleviate the problem of high profile free agents remaining free agents or signing for the minimum.

Whatever they do, I hope they don't have "re-sign Free Agents" first like they used to do. It should be like the NBA, where you have an option of renouncing free agents for cap room. Otherwise, you should have to compete for your Free Agents the same time as everyone else.

I thought they had a space in the DBF for this in Live 2001... just about how desirable it is to play for a team.

I'd prefer that you get a "spending limit" depending on what team you are, which is the amount you can go over the Salary Cap.

For example, the Knicks, Mavericks and Blazers would have a $100 million spending cap. Normal teams like Magic would have around $80 million, and cheapskate teams like the Clippers and Nets  would have something like a $50 million limit.

You can go over it, but it would put your job in serious jeopardy if your team isn't winning. It would also add some more variety to dynasty mode and make teams behave more realistically.

Players would, of course, have the option to set and change the spending limit for every team, and when Editing In-Game players, they should be able to change their contract info.

I just noticed this on the 'Carmelo Anthony is the cover boy page':

New free agency logic allows users to negotiate contracts and manage the salary cap using real dollars for the first time.

!!! REAL MONEY boys... Man this could get sweet. This could mean a lot of things... Well... It is starting to look really promising.

This whole owner tells you what to do sheit is good, but it can take the fun out of the game if you end up managing a team with a really cut throat owner... It essentially makes it harder to do stuff...

I have suggested for a long time that there should be some sort of a maximum cap as well... Let's say that the maximum cap starts around 50 million for all the teams... Then by the success of the team last season, it could move up or down by an amount of a couple of million max... So that the teams could build up slowly but surely and that certain teams wouldn't come crashing down because of a single or two bad seasons.

This max cap could be affected by other things as well... Like if you have a superstar on your roster, people will come to see him, meaning bigger bucks from the home games (Vince in Toronto) or if you get like a top 3 pick in the draft it would increase your max cap a bit...

But we'll just have to wait and see...

About Live 2001... The production team was changed on the fly and all the features that could have been in Live 2001 wasn't in it... By this I mean that there might be something in the databases etc. that were supposed to be implemented, but weren't because of the team change. We can only wonder how great of a game Live 2001 could have been if they were left to finish the job.

And it's quite difficult for me to think that changing a team mid-production is a thing I would never even consider. Especially when they have 1 year to create a new product. It's just too short of a time. I would let them finish and then change the team... But alas... I ain't the one making these calls at EA. Wish I was, that guy just has to be loaded :D
