I got a lot of work done last night. All of the on screen data is accurate, so if you're browsing through the menu you'll be able to see all of the player ratings. I have all of the programs installed on my laptop now, so today I want to change the in game sprites and ratings, then finish up any portraits that aren't in the game yet. Got nothing but time on my hands so I should be able to knock out a good partition of it.

Appreciate all of the support from you guys, really gets me motivated to put the work in to make this a reality.

Hey guys, just a quick update.. Haven't really made any progress since I've been home from school.. It's tough to work on it on my laptop, and I really wanted to make the most of my time home by hanging out with friends and family. I'm headed back to school today, so once I get back I'm going to get a bunch of things done.

I also ran into a pretty big issue while I was trying to edit data.. Apparently each player has their own unique tendencies, which I didn't take into consideration at all. So let's say I replaced a big man with good dunking abilities with a PG who can't dunk at all. The PG will attempt to dunk almost every time, despite only have a rating of 3. This is kind of a game busting issue, because it pretty much renders the player useless, especially if he's not a good 3 point shooter. I can always swap some player data around, but this is a pretty big issue that I've encountered.

Hopefully I can finish editing the player data soon so I can test it out and figure out which players have which tendencies and who needs to be changed.

Haha, fear not my man. I can't guarantee it will be done by the trade deadline like I want, I can't guarantee it will be done by end of the season, but I can guarantee it will get done eventually. Hopefully it becomes a reality sooner than later.

Went to the game tonight (I'm a student at Arkansas).. Still in shock

In on topic news, I've been busy at work lately, but I'll be free to get some work done this weekend. Cheers!

My cousin linked me to that earlier. Incredible finish, must've been very exciting to experience live.

Rough estimate of my progress so far. Hopefully these numbers get larger this weekend. I really want to finish the missing portraits, name tags, and ratings so I can get a video out ASAP. Hopefully you guys can help me with any tweaks that need to be made. Data should be easy, but as I said before, the whole dunk / layup thing really screws it up. Hopefully it's not that big of an issue.

Portraits: 90% (another 20% need to be tweaked)
Names: 100%
Ratings: 95% (Thanks sevin0seven!)
Data: 10%
Secret Players: 10%
Menus / Credits: 0%
Tendencies: 0%

I'd say most people will appreciate the efforts regardless. While it would be nice if the dunk/layup logic could be adjusted, I'm guessing it won't detract too much from an arcade basketball experience.

I believe I've found a work around for this problem.. if I change the player IDs in the player data section of the hex, it doesn't appear to change anything but their tendencies. In theory, I should be able to find out which players have which tendencies from the original game, and edit them in the current version. Using the PG / dunk example, if I take someone like Rondo who is a good PG but can't dunk, I can find a similar player from the original game (Mark Price), swap player IDs, and it should be alright.. It's just too bad my theories haven't always worked out the way I want them to with this project haha. Fingers crossed on this one though. After another solid couple days of working I should be almost ready for a beta. Now it's just about finding the time to get it done.

Rookie team is set. Just need 8 more portraits and to work with the data a little. Expect PMs with a link to the beta version tomorrow night, if all goes according to plan.

PS, I'm assuming I'm going to have to just send the patch and patcher and you guys find the original game on your own? Wouldn't want to break any forum rules (or worse, laws lol)

I believe the hack might have compatibility problems based off of what version or rip of the game you apply it to, AFAIK. Especially if one acquires a bad rip of the game.

IDK about forum rules, but this isn't against the U.S. law.

Just so people know, using SNES9x is your best bet as an emulator for a hack like this. ZSNES is more well-known, but is terrible and hasn't been updated for years. bsnes, now known as higan, is the most accurate but requires a decent PC, a bit more configuration than usual, and I'm not sure how well it does with hacks. I'd recommend this tutorial for anyone new to emulators: http://fantasyanime.com/emuhelp/emuhelp_snes9x.htm

Also, here's hoping some enthusiast on the net rips your hack onto a real SNES cartridge out of your game --- now that would be pretty damn cool to take gameplay video of!

Seems like I bit off a little more than I could chew with this.. Still have 8 teams left to edit before I get all the data ready. Expect a better version coming at ya later in the week. Thanks for being patient.

It looks more pixelated like that in full screen. The screenshots come out in the original resolution, which is a lot smaller than what you'll see on your screen. I haven't been able to test it out on my TV though.. My modded Xbox decided to break and I don't have my tools at school to fix it. Think I'm going to buy a new one on Craigslist this weekend, mod it, put the game on it and play the hell out of it. :)

This KD / LeBron matchup tonight has been great. Maybe not so much the game itself haha. The numbers KD is putting up this month though...

I got my excel sheet fully setup today, so now it's just a matter of putting the stats into the hex editor and I'll be ready for you guys to give it a test run.
