The challenge then would be making those traded virtual stuff retain value and usefulness with each version of the game so the players' investment with the current version of the game won't be wasted if they get the new version after a year.
Imagine Jordan 1 shoes or Wilt Chamberlain MyTeam card (in his prime, 100 points in a single game!) being a rare game commodity that players will be willing to pay $200 of real money to the current owner just to trade it to them.
Ranting yes but it's a rant grounded in reality.
